The hope that we didn't all LARP.

Oh, then I can't take credit for the kill. I am a SCAdian, not a LARPer. I don't pretend to be a dwarf for the sake of pretending to be a dwarf, I put on armor and beat the hell out of similarly geared men with sticks.

sca.... i met some guys who did that, they were all ex military. and their weapons all came across as making you very much need real armor if you wanted to walk away from a game

Not at all. I tried SCA when I was 15-20 pounds lighter, and it's just being beat with a wooden stick. You'll walk away, but with some very serious bruising.

It's not like people are using actual metal-bladed / spiked weapons...

Foamyswords? LOL.

OTOH, if you're talking about rattan sticks covered with foam, wrapped with duct tape, then that's standard SCA kit. As I said above, it'll hurt, and you'll bruise, but you'll walk away. Cowboy up, or go home.

But foamyswords? That's lightweight PVA wrapped in the same foam and tape. You couldn't hurt me with those. That's why even little girls play foamyswords.

One of the things it gave me was "Sexual Complusive Anonymous". Did you join that? if so, are there any hot chicks? (just for future ref, I use chick as a more generic term when refering to the pretty ladies, like some people use dudes when talking about guys.)

nope, not a foamysword, i've seen those, and laugh when i see people complain about them.

i know the ductape sticks too, had a guy kneecap me with one when i once road with a friend to some event, those buggers hurt

this dude had a mace, that he swung around a bit before talking about how they had to stop counting handshots, since it could cripple a guy

How about a Carbon Fibre solid core, layered in foam akin to camping mats, layered with latex, and well painted?

Thats what my mates use, and what one of them supplies to a National chain of Martial Arts schools?

And Cowboy up? I fail to see how bumming someone helps?

I love Latex Weapons. So much better than Boffers(the PVC with foam and duct tape, for those outside the know).

SCA weapons: rattan wrapped in duct tape. Generally no foam, though some kingdoms (regions) require padded pole weapons.

Markland uses foam covered rattan weapons, as well as a half dozen other fighting groups.

Latex or foam covered pvc is generally the realm of LARP, or SCA youth fighting.

Fun stuff in general, though like any social hobby you need to have good people to do it with.

Shortbus: Where do you usually fight? You look really familiar, though after getting hit in the head for a few hours, I find I don't recall names well
That, and I tend to remember people's faces I see at Pennsic, and then have no idea why I "know them".

Hello Wehrkind,

I've been out of it for a few years so you wouldn't have seen me at anything lately, I'm a bit south of you in Lancaster (EK, southern region)

That isn't a (LARP) foamysword.

How does this bum somebody? As we saw, LARPers are lower on nerd heirarchy, so it's all good!

I've been to a couple of 'sealed knot' events here in England. They mostly put on historical battle recreations and they do not use foam. Being in the front rank of a pike formation is terrifying, even when you know they won't actually hit you with the sharp end. I've seen of few guys walking away form those things missing a couple of teeth or a broken arm, it all gets drowned in booze at the end of the day, but still...

Anyhoo, here's me last hallowe'en.
