I turn back around and what do I see? Someone who had picked up one of my old RT drednaughts from an open box and had walked halfway across the shop to show it to someone else. I about had a stroke.

Speaking of concealed weapons, there was a guy that got in an argument at a tourney, and told the guy he was arguing with that he had a gun in his car. Hows that for intimidation!

By the way said guy is banned from many stores in the local area.

I think it's shopped. I can tell by the pixels, and from having seen quite a shops in my time.

How is Magic better? Seriously, justify it. And Just because Rush came before Dream Theater doesn't mean they're better. Yu-Gi-Oh! manages to avoid the crap related to having a resource-based system while also giving tons more flexibility. My 8-drop equivalents can come out first turn if I want, or I can make sure you never draw a card. Magic is so... limiting. Even the best tourney deck with the most mana acceleration will eventually Mulligan down to a few cards to get a land. I'm not saying one is better than the other, I think both have merit. Magic ain't flawless and with an interest in game design as a hobby of mine, I don't think Magic is anything all that fancy (not trying to pull authority, just saying I have interest).

And how the hell is a game where just because you go first I never get to draw a card is fun?

At least in MTG that is restricted to Vintage which is a) not very Popular (Standard is the staple for tournaments) b) Hard to get into anyway.

Before I adress that statement, I actually get to hangout with the GWAR guys fairly often. One of my bandmates is best friends with Brockie, Derks, and Smoot. He lived with Dave and Derks for a little bit very recently till he had to move back because his dad died. Good guys. Really smart, nice, and polite and great musicians.

a) In Traditional (no ban list) it's very possible but also isn't by any stretch the most popular. In Standard it's very difficult to accomplish and requires a good build and can't just happen in one turn. I'm just using that as an example of what you can go for; your straight Aggro deck could eat my lunch long before I can do anything like that.

No, you don't understand.

"No Ban List" is not vintage, that's standard. Vintage has a Restricted List that restricts a lot of the older broken cards to 1 per deck. Legacy has a Banlist, and Extended is the last 7 years of Magic Cards.

Vintage and Legacy Staples are very expensive as they are out of print.

Standard is the Latest Core Set and last 2 Major Blocks, and has a lot more balanced cards. Yes of course there are decks that are "better" than others, but that's the same in ANY game, even in Warhammer (Lash > Grey Knights)

I understand perfectly. And "banning" anything that's pre-Tenth edition is the same as a ban list even if they say it's not. It's not fun for a large fraction of my collectio nto be useless every few years, rather than a small broken fraction. I'm willing to call it even if you admit Yu-Gi-Oh! is a legitimate game.

Magic works precisely *because* it has, and uses, a resource mechanic at its core. That's how the game was designed, so that there would be some buildup to force a game resolution.

Also, the idea that a well-designed deck would have to mulligan down to less than 4 cards to get a mana is nonsense, but the odds of this happening are miniscule in the extreme. Again, that's the point of doing deck design and testing, so you avoid these kinds of things as any sort of regular problem...

Anyhow, there's nothing wrong with Yugioh per se, it's different and that's fine.

But to hold Magic to a "flawless" standard is silly. Magic is an excellent game, and far better than nearly anything else which has come out since 1993.

So Magic has various formats that are time sequenced? So what? If you can't / won't play vintage, nobody forces you.

Cann, play legacy Then. All it bans is the Broken old cards from Alpha, Beta and Urzas. But other than a very few number of cards, everything is legal to play.
