Basing of the model should either be City Ruins/Urban or Grass and Sand Effect

So either in the city or outside.
Still waitin to see bases, I'd like to have mine compliant to others.

Also if I might make a suggestion?

Since this is going to be an "Army" of different Chapters I think that the bases being consistent is one of the most important things. Rather than looking like a massive jumble of random coloured marines, consistant bases will make it appear that all these Marine Chapters have gathered in the same place.

Here is the basing I use on my marines;

It's nothing special and that's exactly why I think it works really well. It's fairly neutral and natural so it goes very nicely on a large variety of boards, it's also extremely easy to do, and if you like it I can even create a small tutorial for everyone to follow to make sure we all do the same style. Let me know.

Here are a couple more shots for reference;

I would submit that whatever base design is chosen, it should be easy, and not require anything weird, or custom resin bases, etc.

Also, whatever is chosen should be accompanied by a quick set of instructions, which includes what paints were used.

Ok guys the base issue is going to be a bit contentious
We had a poll for this and the forum was basically split into 2 groups
One group urban and one group sand and grass with urban getting one or 2 more votes

The reason it was decided that there would be a choice is because of this split and that I didnt want to discourage participation by forcing people into something they didnt want to do or were'nt equipped for (some people only had parts for urban basing or sand and grass basing)

I understand the need for conformity though and it makes sense but if half do urban and half do sand and grass then perhaps it will be a meeting with half the chapters on an urban base and the other half perhaps on a sand and grass base within the city (a park perhaps)
Or perhpas half on the outskirts of the city on sand and grass base and the other half actually in the city on urban base

Hope everyone agrees with this

Hello,

I would like to throw in my WIP chapter the Sons of Ashryn. This sounds like a pretty fun project.

Here is the page where my chapter is slowly being built-up and an idea as to what they will be looking like, although I need to update the log slightly since my scheme has changed slightly.

If we do a optional base of a) or b) type, I am considering what fits to the desertly paint-scheme.

I think he should raid the outskirts tough..

Could do a second one to roam the inner city.
Still need to move them across this channel so undecided if 2 are an option.

Yeah i reckon a Desert Marine would be more suited to the outskirts

If you want to do another one you are more than welcome

Here you go - http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/smpbeta.php

When you make your Marine you can post the image via a link they provide, however, mine broke after a while so I suggest saving the jpeg then uploading it to your Dakka gallery and post it from their.

I was wondering if anyone was considering a campaign badge for all the marines to fit together.
Also about the basing why don't we try and get some bases with urban, some with grass and sand, and some with a mix of the two.

I like the idea about a campaign badge
If anyone has any suggestions regarding this please post if you like this idea
Also what design would be good and where should it be placed (simpler the design, the better)

Also very cool idea for the basing
So guys feel free to mix it up between the two types or just stick to the one type

A Campaign Symbol is a great idea. I have a few Ideas.
A Laurel or Wreath.
A Necron, Ork or Tryanid skull whatever they were fighting in the campaign.
A Crux Terminatus.
Maybe they fought with the Inquisition and have the
I don't know if everyone will be able to make a campaign badge though but if we do decide to make one we should all agree on it.

It is a good idea but we cant really force people to do it
Might be too much for some and some people have already posted off their marines to me
So perhaps we either leave this idea or people can agree on something and add it if they wish

This is also more a conclave (ie. a meeting of chapters) than a campaign
Although there must be something to meet for (eg. some dire threat that threatens the Imperium) so it would ultimately end up in a campaign

So you've actually got some marines?

About campaign badges:
these are badges used in a campaign by all imperial forces, ie from guardsmen to marines and titans..

Often skulls, lightning bolts, crossed swords, axes, wings, crosses, stars, eagles heads, claws, mailed fist, and any combo of those.
2 or 3 of them are available at GW's decal sheets ( IIRC the skull in a circle and the lightning bolt in a circle ) for IG and SM.

To quote the "insignium astartes" book:

The design of an Army badge is deliberatly straightforward. Usually it consits of a simple geometric shape overlaid with a motif or it might be a simple stencilled icon.
......
Space Marines generally apply the Army Badge to their right leg greave.

Some of the easier ones should not complicate painting too much, but as some seem to have completed and sent their work it may just become optional
to apply a badge. At least this optional badge should be a common one, I second we need to agree upon it ASAP and anyone joining later has to follow.

It shall be considered too:
- some chapters aren't 'codex'
- some painters aren't using extensive markings at all ( ie squad number, company colors, ....)

Nope no marines arrived yet but I know a few guys have posted them

I think the badge should be optional as I dont want to force people to add something they dont want to or cant paint
This is more about submitting a marine to represent your chapter as you want it to be seen

Also as they are not actually in a campaign it wont affect the whole project really
This is more of a meeting of chapter representatives (ie. conclave)

While i like the idea of the Dakka Badge i still think this will be optional
Even though it is easy enough i still think some people would have trouble painting that
