A month isn't very long in development time, considering a gold release candidate is usually a few weeks out from release.

Well yeah. People are itching for the reveal as to whether we're getting DOWII styled coop, or if we're just getting another Red Faction: Armageddon where the only online cooperative play is an Infestation/Hordes mode.

Campaign coop is important to a great many of us. We're already irked that Kill-Team didn't feature Online Coop, considering many of us here on Dakka would love to be playing that cooperatively but have an ocean separating us. Couch coop is nice and all, but it's kinda silly to have restricted it like that all things considered.

Not trying to be confrontational or anything, just saying. We want to experience the story with our friends here. As fun as mindlessly blasting hordes of Orks is, it'd be a bit better to be blasting Orks whilst experiencing a story.

Well said!

I know that I will be able to get some friends into this game who otherwise wouldn't have purchased it.

Campaign co-op is a HUGE draw for many... fingers crossed here!

A month is not very long for me at all. I would have expected them to have at least some more information about co-op like what kind of co-op it is, a month before release.
By the way how long does it take for a game to go gold till it hits store shelves?

It is long when used for hyping up fans

Throwing out your big guns at the last second will increase initial sales due to the fact that people who previously weren't sure might actually remember the big features for it.

What to you are the big guns? are you talking about 30 dlc co-op? I find that the fact that the co-op is 30 dlc is not the best but i think the extra time will give them the chance to come up with something really good. I was hoping for a separate co-op story and a horde mode.

... the 30 day DLC isn't the primary co-op mode. It's EXTRA.

From they way he told me the 30 day dlc is the co-op. When I asked him about what kind of co-op there would be and if it came with the game he specifically said "It will be provided with 30 DLC." Hopefully that's not the case, but its what I was told. Not sure if he was the "THQSledgehammer" Admin guy from the space marine forum as he was supposed to be there. I'm only trying to tell you what I was told when I asked what was going on with co-op.

Reading around some reviews from around the interwebz, written by people that AREN'T 40k fanboys like us, it seems that multiplayer really isn't that exciting a mode. More fun will be derived from the customizer than the multiplayer gameplay itself. Really I'm not surprised, footage made multiplayer gameplay look kinda clunky, I figure I'll get a good couple weeks or so out of it at best, and then Battlefield 3 comes out and the multiplayer community is pretty much dead (barring some really awesome DLC).

I know I pre-ordered Battlefield 3 today instead of Space Marine... the funny thing, though, is that I went to the store with the intention of pre-ordering Space Marine.

Luckily, I haven't met people like that. I only know a few people that actually play BC2...most of my friends and co-workers are obsessed with MW2 and Black Ops (I respect those games, but they just can't compare to the Battlefield series).

Back to Space Marine...Does anyone know when a demo/beta will be released? Or if they're going to release one at all?

No public beta. Demo might be released, but that's up to marketing.

When Mellissia talks about battlefield, you best close your eyes lest you be overtaken by the overload of lulz.

Edit: I read that review posted above, and I had the same feelings on everything but one.

He said that melee was clunky because humans don't have three thumbs...obviously he was playing on the XBAWKS or PS3.

Oh, sup, my name is PC, I am the superior gaming console if you have the money to accomplish this.

Oh, sup, my name is XBAWKS, compared to PC, I am an ancient piece of hardware, but if you don't have the money for a good gaming system, I should do you fine if you realize I am the cheap option.

Oh, sup, my name is PS3, I am the same as the XBAWKS, but I look cooler.

Stopped reading after they said "Bioshock 2's Multiplayer was tacked on". I don't know about anyone else, but that was the best balanced, actually-fit-in-to-the-story, and absolute BLAST Multiplayer I have played in a long time.

I thought it felt tacked on, I certainly didn't enjoy it (but I'm extremely jaded and came to hate Bioshock due to feeling cheated when it turned out that the 'multiple endings' were pretty much the same ending but with a different voiceover....

PC vs console debate derp. Always fun.

Some people also prefer consoles for other reasons other than associated cost you know.

Just throwing it out there (I don't know Xbox controllers well enough to say) but it could be possible that the PS3 version allows you to push in on the analog stick (the L3/R3 button) to perform melee attacks. That would pretty much be the same thing as a mouse function

Because you can't remap your controls on console... or just hook up a mouse and keyboard to your xbox (that's how it's spelled by the way).

The multiplayer might have actually just changed my mind about the game. Gonna get it now for sure!

As for the console vs. pc debate, I personally prefer console because I find that a controller specially designed for gaming with associated commands for everything is easier to use than a mouse and keyboard. Don't get me wrong, I still game on my PC (witcher 2 mostly), but I do prefer console.

My opinion is consoles are good for platformers, racing games, sports titles and the like, but anything that requires aiming is best played on the PC. I own a gaming PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 so I'm not biased in the slightest, it's just aiming with a controller feels so wrong.

I really hope there will be a multiplayer demo before release, the only reason I want it is for multiplayer, I very rarely play singleplayer in any game.

The question isn't why do I kill. The question is, why I don't kill everybody.

You can remap them, but it still won't be fluid on a controller.

I'm saying, this game is for the Xbox, PS3, and PC, but when it comes to shooters like Space Marine, and that includes the directional melee, PC is king.

I don't take complaints of "the controls are clunky" seriously because that's a problem for so many other games on the XBAWKS and PS3, its not a flaw in the game, its in the system.

Are you seriously saying that there's some kind of fluidity with mouse/keyboard that the controller doesn't have? So where's God of War: PC Edition?

I don't take them seriously because the controls are far less clunky than they are on PC, by and large. The only place PCs really get an edge is when there's micromanagement RTS games.

Far be it for I to contradict, you when you're on the warpath Kanluwen, but I think it'd be rather intelligent of ya to remember that most games are ported or not ported for reasons other than controller compatibility.

Yep, I've even taken my xbox controller on the PC to own some people in Quake Live.

Bumper jumpers take the cake!

IMO RTS is really the only thing that is better on PC, the rest is equal or better on console. For FPS, the biggest difference for me is simple, immersion. A controller is much more immersive, if only because of vibration. When playing on a PC it just feels more like work then a game.
