Dankie is indeed correct nice to know that my second language isn't a complete mystery to some, since sometimes it sneaks its way into my normal speech patterns. I manage to avoid it in text largely, though.

Randomness aside, I actually really like the Blood Ravens' fluff. Its awesome. I hope you have an Epic Librarian planned. I wouldn't doubt him being epic, though, looking at what you can do.

As for the color of tempered metal, I got your point... I did a little research on that matter before painting, some Google Fu and even asked one welder from my job. He said the colours can differ depending on the alloy type, heating and cooling, also, those pictures are very illustrative: one and two. According to the article on Lexicanum the barrels can reach temperatures of over 300°, and 40k Wikia state it as "over 300°F", thus it's kinda not clear, if the barrels can have such an effect at all... After I digged deeper in this, my brain nearly exploded, so at the end I just used this nice guide at From the Warp for painting: How to paint heat stained gun barrels
I guess I should think about this once again and give the muzzle some lighter blue... Should I?

Don't think too hard there, ishkatar! I wasn't doubting that there would be heat discoloration at all. What you have already painted looks fantastic! My comment was on a more consitancy note: if there is discoloration in the middle sections of the barrels, then there should also be discoloration on the tips of the barrels (the tips sticking out past that barrel strap). Is that a little more clear?

@ Rawson - the guide Ish used suggests that at the end of a barrel the heat is so intense that steel goes very bright-grey, almost white. I think that was his point, but I may be wrong.

the guides are pretty sound to me...but again i only say this as a laymen...

so condensed milk...check... now always something to keep the bloodsugar on a certain level will be with me^^

thanks for the showing of how you positioned the different shots into one beautiful pic! that was very helpful... once i get me a tripod this will be the way to partray my minis in the future!
by the way... i had an extensive course in the whole adobe thingy and i shoudl have come up with that by myself...but well... ^^

also i like how you brought common sense in for a second only to bring on mystery back again^^ that is a true conjurer´s virtue^^

ah and finally... what i wanted to add...: every time i read EL vic... that really makes me smile/blush... i feel quite honored^^ sounds cool as hell...er...you know what i mean by that^^

and you doing commisionswork for storags cool grots....about time those get a decent lick of paint on them... by the way...these really made me edgy about one far off day to start a grot revolution too... what hampers me is that no one again needs a red revolution... so until i have a striking idea as to who or whoom they could represent that is in my todo list... (volume 12145246256)

cheers, el vic

Well, I'm caught. I definately didn't read those tutorials before, and just tried to clarify the confusion that turned out to be non existant. I thought the bright-grey part of the tutorial seemed strange, so I did some google research. And what do you know, that's really the way it looks. So here's me taking my foot out of my mouth

@Obsidian Raven:

Indeed, the overall fluff is kinda nice and interesting, but mostly as a foundation for my guys, who are not just a simple Company within the chapter... I have to spend some time at last to write in at least a basic story behind my future army. And yes, I plan to make some kind of a Librarian squad
I doubt it will happen soon.

@Rawson:
Well, Storag has already made my point clear, though I had to do it by myself, instead of posting the overwhelming amount of wierd links

@El Vic:
Condensed milk is always nice to have anyway, despite the bears
Por favor, amigo! Not that it make sence to write in Spanish to the German guy, yet this "El" kinda obliges
Aye, Grots are cool as hell. I wish I had more time and dedication to paint Storag's Orcs aswell... Oh, we will see.
Well, I like the representation of Warcraft Goblins - those smartass traders and tinkerers, who prefer to use big (and dumb) beings to fight for them. I imagine the bunch of this PIMPed small fellas protected by an army of Ogre-like monsters with big guns.

@MrMerlin:
Thanks, man! Welcome to the blog, by the way

@Zinge:
Thanks and welcome! It's nice to see you here

@El Vic:
It's my honor to name you that way, though the credits should go to Chibi Bodge-Battle
Aye, big guys always should protect small guys... Should they?
Well, maybe, if only my wishes were not beyond my possibilities... But a man can dream... A man can dream

@Storag:
Isn't it something ordinary, when our fate is determined without us even knowing, my friend?
Whoa, that's creepy

Anyway, I have overcome the Skyrim madness finally and back on a track with some ongoing P&M progress!
As I said before, I'm doing some paint job for my friend, Storag, and here how things are turning out:

I've fixed the Grot's eye a bit, to make the painting easier for myself - there going to be a good ol' Lens effect

And... The Browncoats! His old dusty duster. Looks a bit dirty, but I think it's alright for the grottish coat. Any thoughts?

nice mini mate...this is storag´s, eh? and he let you change that eye? well i think he will be in for a treat... that brown coat already screams dodge city to me... the western scheme is a very fitting one for that mini in my view...

hopefully we will see some more of these lil fellas done by you soon! i really like storags grots... very unique and powerful work of him!

and yep...whoever thought that fate lies in our hands? we get only the cards dealt and have to play for the big stakes and we will loose ultimatly...but thats ok...as terry pratchet once wrote in a bokk of his...: a million dead people can´t be wrong...^^

Vik, I'm pretty satisfied so far But if you just knew the battles we had about that lens and colour scheme... I even had to threaten to stab him unconcious and send to China in a crate so he'll be painting Happy Hippos for the rest of his life! That worked miraculously and I'm going to include this method to my list of "how to motivate those you can't reason with"

@El Vic:
Well, I'm aiming for a Teenage-Cowboy-Sci-Fi-Grot... Very eclectic, I know
I just realised, that painting miniature, which is not mine, is much harder for me for some reason...

Indeed, Terry Pratchett wrote just a lot of things worth quoting.

@Tortured-Robot:
Thank you! I'm just a stubborn person sometimes, when it really does not necessary

@Storag:
In fact, it's not the best way to motivate a person, who got your miniature as a hostage

It's been a hard day's night, and I've been working like a dog...

The headless grot is almost finished. Some polishing and I can start torturing his head.
Currently we are arguing with Storag about his way too rusty base, so your opinion on that matter can be very helpfull, as any C&C, of course.

îs there a possibility of having too much rustyness? i think not...the warmth this weathering radiates looks very good to me...
one minor thought here tho...:
the grimy coat suggest that this mini would be not the kind to fuss around to keep the crisp look of his cons...so i guess a bit of ruination on his shoes would be the right thing to do... also i would like to see a loose bootlace on one shoe...would add even more depth to the teenage dirtbag feel of the mini...

much more i am not able to come up with as the head is missing^^...hope the torture starts soon then...

vik...or as he is more commonly now known as...el vic...^^

@El Vic:
Personally I like the rust effect... It is... As you said it - it is warm
Indeed. Well, the soles are already very dirty, but I decided to leave the toecap fairly white to make the overall appearance more contrast. Anyway, the last word is after the "client"
The loose bootlace idea sounds perfect - I should try it!

@Capitansolstice:
Of course!
The easiest way to get such a heavy rust effect I came up with:
For complex surfaces - Tin Bitz as a basecoat, intense drybrush with Calthan Brown (I guess any not-very-dark brown will do), Badab Black wash for deep dark areas, Devlan Mud for darkening the brown itself and finally - carefull highlight/drybrush over the edges with somewhere about 50/50 mix of Brown and Blazing Orange (to get a bit reddish and more rustish colour).
For flat surfaces - Calthan Brown, Devlan Mud for darkening and highlight/drybrush over the edges with mix of Brown and Blazing Orange.

As for the head missing... Here it comes:

Hopefully the overall paint job will be approved soon, so the miniature will be assembled, properly photographed and posted for your judgement

Great stuff OP, the ammo belt looks just like the HB one.

Plasma gunner is my favourite though, it's a great conversion. Really demonstrates the conversion potential of finecast models when they don't come out crap.

You could break some of the rust up with some silver here or there as the metal is chipped? Perhaps where the gears mesh? Or where the box has been scratched revealing fresher un-rusted metal underneath?
