I loved squats!!!! I also remember the really cool thudd gun which fired four explosive 1" rounds with the template having four sections attached and each explosion being rolled for position!!! Wish they would bring them back! All of the other WHFB races are there (well at least some of them not being a player of fantasy myself!!!).

If they were to come back, I think they should make them have a higher technological base than others.

None. I think they're all ugly as sin.

They're not all that bad. But, that is only my opinion. For me it would have to be the Exo-Armour Squat.

Have a few conversions thatI think are pretty nice.

Of all the races of the universe the Squats have the longest memories and the shortest tempers. They are uncouth, unpredictably violent, and frequently drunk. Overall, I'm glad they're on our side!

Colt Stoner is the hardest model ever made. He is actually more bad ass than some entire 40K armies.

And Sergeant Bylcow (Bilco)

Once I revive my IGuard army fully, he'll be part of the command squat as an advisor.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

For me that is the goofiest squat model.

I really liked the squat attack trike models. They were well done. Also really liked the few chaos squats that they made as well.

Whether or not they did Fantasy Dwarves in Space justice is definitely up for debate. Biker dwarves probably wasn't the best concept. However, it's sorta hard to say they weren't "intrinsic" since they were there from the beginning and a major part of the fluff.

I mean, the Tau, Dark Eldar, Necrons? Those guys aren't intrinsic. The Tau were dreamed up and inserted into the universe to attract the anime crowd. They were then given a half plausible back story (separated by warp storms lolwat), and set to models. The Dark Eldar only came about after years of clamoring and years of converted Eldar armies showing up to Games Day. They are weird space fetishists. I mean, if the Tau back story is a little flimsy (but suitable), the Dark Eldar back story is downright silly. The Necrons were somebody at GW's attempt to revise and re-release the robots from Space Crusade as new models, as part of a sort of one-off scenario. They only became an army after people decided they liked the space terminators.

I agree with you. Don't look to 40k for originality or true contuity. While mostly united under a grimdark background, 40k has always been a delightfull pastiche of other Sci-Fi and fantasy tropes that GW has blended together. I don't mean this as a bad thing. 40k has something for everyone, lots of background and great models. That doesn't change the fact that -for the most part- 40k races are drawn from other sources and then shoehorned into the 40k background.

Biker Squats only feel non-intrinsic (whatever that means) because they don't have a pre-40k sci-fi-fantasy version that we are familiar with.

He looks pretty indecisive. Also his last name is "stoner", lol.

But that's only because you're too unmanly to get the reference. All the old Squat models were named after guns or gun designers. In this case, Samuel Colt and Eugene Stoner. Stoner being the inventor of the AR-10, which was then rechambered and modified to become the M-16, and all the way up to the SR-25 which is used by modern day special operations troops as a precision (sniper) system.

Your country has 4 times the gun ownership that mine does. Samuel Colt isn't really a household name over here...

Yeah, EBay isn't a bad way. I've seen pretty much every Squat figure ever made at one point or another, and they rarely go for anything absurd, price wise. There's a few UK vendors that seem to think Squat figures are some kind of rarity and have them listed at expensive prices, but somehow I doubt they sell too many of them.

Xeno-Hating Inquisitorial Excruciator

You guys, Squats have a codex, you just need to take Inquisitor Coteaz as an HQ . being able to field insane firepower, pretty much any weapon you want, armor if you feel like it and back it up with all the cool grey knight stuff (exo armor 'paladins', giant robot dreadknights etc...) Personally I hope they never come back, even as Demiurg, because then my army loses the "what are those?" response, which I enjoy, because i get to tell their tale. Instead it would be "why are you using those stubby tau guys as Inquisitorial henchmen?"

Long Live the Squats!
