I just had three parts put in my Mustang for $734. Warhammer/40k isnt the only expensive hobby.

Down the road, I wonder if we're gonna see guys/gals/cyborgs playing Warhammer Fantasy or 40k for long periods of time like you do now. Personally, I played for about 7 years and have been away for about 5 (raising kids), only to come back and have a stroke when I saw current prices. Man, I'm glad I didnt sell all that stuff! You have to wonder if you'll see people, who start today, playing for years and years, like you do now.

GW seems to be interested in short term players, who play a few years, stock up, then quit. Not a bunch of old farts talking about how warhammer used to be.

@ Phydox - They're like car companies in that respect. There's always someone new to the game (car buying or 40k) who will be interesting in the product and buy it. Always. They may not come back later because of various reasons, but someone else will fill their place.

And I also know a few things about expensive hobbies. Not only have I spent a couple hundred $ on drum equipment, but my next firearm purchase will run me about $2k. So much for Warhammer, I have weapons to purchase. That reminds me, I haven't bought any knives in a while...

@Mc Ninja.
I think you will find GW plc are struggeling to find 'someone else to take thier place'.As GW plc has suffered drop in sales volumes for years now.
(The turn over has not matched the increase in retail price.)

In fact GW plc has lost nearly half its customers base , in the last few years.

From the hight of GW popularity 2004.
IF GW had not shed any customers , they would be turning over in excess of £300m!

I realized something on the way home. I guess GW's price increases actually have had an effect on me.

Since the 2011 price increase, I've bought a total of two things. Two plastic fantasy characters for my Vampire Counts. While I've planned finishing off my Tyranids and Vampire Counts, I've actually only been spending my money on Infinity.

I never even realized until today when I was planning yet more Infinity purchases, and though, when was the last time my Nids got some love?

Guess I've been subconciously voting with my wallet.

The weird thing is 40k is still what I play. I still haven't played Infinity, and even have played 40k as recently as a couple of weeks ago.

Starting a new 40k or Fantasy army or even just buying a few new models this month could put me back quite a bit. I can easily go out and socialize/date on less than the cost of a new vehicle plus paints, unless it's a really special occasion or the chick some kind of upper crust girl, which I don't date anyway.

Problem is that now I have a whole bunch of 40k stuff that I barely use from way back when. I'm thinking I'll hold on for a few years and then resell at unethical prices and laugh.

In the meantime, I'm going to be doing Warmahordes.
