I agree, although still an improvement on the toy commercial that preceded it.

I saw it this weekend. Loved it. I can't say if it's the best Marvel movie so far, but it's probably my favorite now.

Overall a really enjoyable film. Not GotG good, never going to be a classic, but very good.

Avengers, GotG, Winter Soldier, Iron Man

That's probably the list of MCU classics. This movie isn't to that level, IMO, but its very competitive in that 5th slot with other "fun favorites". It's definitely an odd one to rank, because its simultaneously easy to criticize and extremely fun and watchable. I felt more rejuvenated watching this than I did since... well, probably Guardians. I really, really wish the duds had been cleaned up in editting, because if they had been, I can easily see this movie filling that 5th slot in my top 5. And ultimately, that's the oddity of the film. I adore it, but if you ask for my criticisms, I can probably come up with a pretty lengthy list.

I liked all three - more than say Guardians - which I enjoyed as a MCU film but don't see all the fuss about it. For me the whole Tony/Pepper dynamic is so good - rather than say the one in Guardians - which is a bit meh.

Mostly agree - there are some pacing issues and it does kinda jumps from scene to scene but most of the time its so much fun you let it go. Must admit the only time I was worried was at the very start with the rotating chain stuff - thought that was not great and went on to long but it got going after that.

Thor: Ragnarok- Guardians of the Galaxy 3: No Guardians of the Galaxy this time!

Despite my snark, the movie was fun enough to watch, but it was nothing great. Hela was really fun and Cate Blanchett plays it up well. Grandmaster is a hoot, but Jeff Goldblum can always ham it up. Skrouge and Loki are a bit wasted.

This movie is full of jokes. Depsite that, the theatre I was in almost never laughed. It was wierd.

Finally, this is the most "Metal" of all the Marvel movies! There were a few shots that looked like they came right off the cover of an Amon Amarath album. The director also really understands that this is a movie informed by drawn artwork and has some really striking almost frozen shots that look like they could have been ripped staright from a frame.

I would recommend people rent it.

Am I the only one who thought the Thor/Loki interaction was better and less forced than the Thor/Hulk/Banner buddy-movie?

Beyond that, a wasted opportunity to create an Avengers/Guardians link to bring the two together.

Agree, except on the Loki part - I thought he was great in this movie, and of course him swiping the [spoiler] is going to be a big point going forward too.

MUst have been your crowd - lots of laughing at the showing I was at.

Disagree - see it in theaters! You'll enjoy it a lot more that way.

So I read a theory that the "Eternal flame" that Hela used to resurrect all the Asgard warriors and later Loki used to wake up that big fire Daemon guy might actually be the last Infinity stone: the Soul stone.

It would be 'efficient' if Loki swiped it and the Tesseract prior to Asgard being destroyed. If the ship in the mid-credit scene is Thanos, than he'll acquire 2 Infinity stones off the bat for Infinity war.

This seems like a pretty legit theory to me.

Question about the ending.
Spoiler:

Is Hela dead?

Can she even actually die at all?

Kind of up to future stories, but I assume so. The bigger question is:

Spoiler:
The idea is that Hela is invincible as long as she has Asgard to draw power from, which is why Ragnarok likely kills her. Thor's power also comes from Asgard though, so, does he still have powers or is he just a normal Asguardian now?

Funny enough, this one be the second time this year we had a character gain godlike power from a planet and then destroy the planet if so.

I think you missed a point that was hammered home pretty often throughout the movie:

Asgard isn't a place, it's a people.

Every time an Asgardian rings a bell, Thor gains 1.21 gigawatts of power.

That was a rhetorical question, mate... not one you really needed to answer as I'm keenly aware that we have differing opinions on the matter.
The problem with inside jokes is that, unless you're on the inside, they aren't funny.

I didn't miss the point, its just that the movie acts like that doesn't apply to Hela.

It can be both!

Maybe it didn't apply to Hela, but it does apply to Thor?

There's a funny version of the end of this where she kills everybody, gets the sword, and realizes the Bifrost doesn't work because Asguard is dead.

Bonus points for a throwaway line in SHIELD about how Sif slipped in the shower or fell to some other unfortunate accident to tie up that plothole.

She doesn't have one the same way she does in the comics from what I can tell. It's presented as more of a prison dimension or something to that effect in the movie, so there's no real rules for how it would work.

Well, when Hela first appears she come sin a whirl of greenish black stuff. When she is (spoiler?)defeated she disappears in a greenish puff (spoiler?)

Conclusion: Since this is a Comic Book Movie, no one is really ever dead.

On another noter, the Warrior 3 and Lady Sif? We know what happens tot he 3, but where was Lady Sif? Did I simply miss her in the movie?

Lady Sif was only mentioned in Loki's play. That was it.

Regarding Hela, my hope is that she not only can return, but that she fills the "Lady Death" role in the MCU in regards to Thanos.
I also hope we get the return of Red Skull, who was only "destroyed" in Capt American by the Tesseract, but like 2 movies later we see that it was actually a portal instead. So is he dead or just teleported somewhere else? Like in space and joins up with Thanos.

The MCU is in dire need of some repeat villians other than Loki. Hela and Red skull could work well with Thanos.

Yeah. Hela.

Ace villain.

Spoiler:

I don’t think she’s dead, just defeated. Remember, her power was linked to Asgard - that’s why nobody could properly chin her. With Asgard gone, she’s partially depowered.....but still Asgardian all the same.

Based on what, exactly?

Thor is told that Hela gains power from Asgard but Thor thinks he needs Mjolnir to gain his power but then ghost-Odin tells him that he doesn't need the hammer and just like Hela, he gains his power from Asgard. And oh yeah, Asgard is a people, not a place.

Surtur destroys Asgard the place while seemingly defeating Hela. I don't think there's a chance in hell that she was outright killed during Ragnarok and I'm willing to bet she's going to pal around with Thanos at some point.

I assume they warped out Red Skull as a potential audible villain for the Avengers movie in the event that Loki didn't pan out.

Hela returning probably depends if the actress wants to do more - how much money they throw at her.

The MCU guys can write her back or not -

Is Thor powered by faith? In other words, if Midgard were to worship him as God of Thunder, would he have more power?

Sif wasn't in this film because the actress couldn't make it. In-universe, she was banished by Loki for ... some reason. So she could be back in future films, or Agents of Shield or whatever.

I saw the movie last weekend, and I loved it! Good mix of grimdark and comedy and all-around fun. Cate Blanchett manages to be absolutely divine despite being horribly evil, and the stuff between Thor and the Hulk was well played too.

Spoiler:
I'm wondering how this will all tie in to Infinity War. We saw that ship come in at the end, so is that Thanos? On another note, I'm really sad that they killed off the Warriors Three. I enjoyed those characters in the first two Thor movies.
