As these guys are metal, I bought a bottle of nail polish remover, with acetone, from Dollarama and threw them in that. I've never had it take this long before, but it is working. For plastic miniatures, I used to use acetone-free nail polish remover which is cheap and plentiful over the pond but over here I use Simple Green, which you can get at basically any hardware store. I've also had good results using an ultrasonic cleaner and isopropyl alcohol on really stubborn ebay rescues painted with enamel paints. The only resin mini I've ever stripped is Herself and the paint basically fell off of Her, so it doesn't really count.

Of course, I'm dumb and my initial clean up attempt on the Wulfen used a plastic toothbrush and of course the acetone melted the plastic, which hasn't helped matters.

I am hopeful that the used paint and primer come off the Space Wolf Wolfen as they certainly were coated...




As a youth I first used Isopropyl alcohol originally but found it slow going; perhaps it was diluted or old? However it was easily available as a household product.

Another household product I used was Easy Off Oven Cleaner; however it left a less than desirable result with paint and primer stuck in crevices.

Furniture paint stripper in small cans was also very effective but also very smelly, and tended to be too thick.

I currently strip metal with pure acetone, in a used pickle jar. Just pour in enough to cover the miniature and allow to soak for a few days.

I've found the Space Wolf " 13th Company Wulfen " using good old Stuff Of Legends, I believe i also included a Space Wolf in Mark 6 armour.

Yep, there's a Mk.VI Space Wolf (from 1993) but it appears your predecessor in title took a Dremel to him.

Excommunicatus' Noodlemas Quiz

This thread is littered with references to things outside of the 40K universe, some of them quite obvious, some of them very cryptic. Some are explicit, some in text, some are pictorial. Some are implied. Most, but far from all, are pop-culture. They are not all in English. Being British and/or watching BBC comedy in/from the 90s is likely to be of great assistance. Some are outright plagiarized. I think they're all hilarious, but YMMV. To encourage competition - and therefore more views - I'll whack a 'league table' in the OP so you can see how you're doing. I'd rather you send one PM with all your references on them, but if you spot more later on don't hesitate to PM me again updating your list (and score).

What you need to do is to go find them, PM them to me by December 31st and the winner gets... I don't know. To be a character in my fluff? To be a miniature in my soup? Ladies' Choice, I guess.

- References to WWI, the Kronstadt Rebellion, the Red Army, WWII and formerly-Soviet or French cities/towns are entirely too obvious and don't count.
- Nor does Little Britain, or my ex.
- There are 80 (eighty) out-of-universe references in total.
- 60 (sixty) of them are obvious-ish, so they score 1pt each.
- Nineteen of them are cryptic, so they score 5pts each.
- One is almost impossible to spot, so if you get that you score 20pts.
- Ergo, your max. score is 175pts.

You may notice she's no longer undamaged and you may remember that I was on a train to Toronto with my boss. I was in Toronto for three days and Sasha Aleksandrovna was staying with friends. I came home from Toronto and found her on the floor with her fingers and sword snapped off, so I suspect my landlord has been a naughty boy.

I couldn't find any of her fingers and basic rules of sharing space with a dog has dictated two hooverings since, so there won't be any repair work.

btw i did some sleathing and used Google Maps to take a look at the address you provided me prior to sending the Wulfen;
the wood-framed building it appears to have been a general store with above dwelling before used as rental accomodation?

If only those walls could talk; have you taken any photographs indoors and noticed the appearance of odd orbs or lights?
I've wondered if there is anything hidden in the walls, floorboards or ceilings in these old rooming-houses...

Honestly, I'm not a believer in ghosts, spirits and the like. This building did used to be a store at one point, but that was long before I moved here and I haven't looked into it, most of my research on the locale has been focused on the Hungarian church next door.

Also, I'm British so a hundred-year old house isn't all that unusual to me. At one point, I lived in a house built in the 17th Century.

He denies he entered my apartment and, in fairness, I can't prove that he did. He is the only person with a key, however, and there's no question of Sasha Aleksandrovna having caused the damage 'cause she wasn't there. My elderly neighbour, whose front door is less than five feet from mine and who rarely leaves the building says he entered my apartment, though.

We have a Landlord and Tenant Board hearing scheduled for January 10th, so this will be added to the laundry list of problems I have with him and this gakky apartment.

Sorry to hear about the incident with the statue, hopefully it's partially salvageable at the very least. If you can't repair it, maybe you could write a bit of fluff to explain the damage as battle damage?

Yeah, that's the plan.

I had already written some fluff about how she had survived intact and how it was a sign that the K4WDF's actions were righteous but her fingers are either inside the hoover or in the bin, sadly, so that'll have to change.

A little help and some (hopefully constructive) criticism requested, s'il vous plait.

While I'm constantly accused of being a 'tankie' IRL, I haven't modelled a tank since I did a fairly basic Death Company Land Raider Redeemer back in 2009, when I was a callow undergrad.



Vot tak. As you can probably, see it is very basic and has no weathering of any kind. I'm keen to do a better job on my Renegades' armour so I've started adding some sand to the Basilisk to sell the impression of an actual machine of war, actually at war. I've researched online and I even went to a construction site and had a poke around looking at their tracked vehicles, so I believe I'm on the right track. Oh, I do amuse myself. Ahem. However, we are the worst judges of our own competence, so here's some pics for your consideration.











Please bear in mind this is merely stage 1 of the weathering process, not the weathering process.

The Allied Stars stencils arrived today



So I'll be spending the day painting the Basilisk and making the K4WDF illegal in the Ukraine.

A quick note to say that I've reorganized things again and now all the fluff has its own thread at The Fall of Kronstaat IV - Волшебная Сказка A Fairy Tale and posts 2, 3, and 4 are now 'showcases' for Slaanesh Daemons, Renegades and Heretics and Emperor's Children Heretic Astartes, respectively.

If you've been following the fluff but didn't check out the previous compendium post, there's a new bit of writing and some more of my 'mad' Paint/GIMP skillz in there.

I don't have a huge amount of experience but some tops for painting up tanks I've found very useful and I'll be using in the long run.

First of all, grey primer is your friend. Black primer makes the model look very flat and on a tank you need a lighter colour to give the tank some variation. From there you want to preshade any panel lines with black before any base layers go down to give you some more depth. I didn't do this for my panzer and I can see how it would help, especially over a light colour scheme like my Afrika Korps or your grey scheme. It'll really stand out on a grey tank.

In terms of weathering, it's best left until after the model is fully painted in my opinion and after an optional clear coat varnish. It lets you decide how much you actually want. Do you want it like it's fresh out of a battle or like it's been on the road for a bit. If you buy some hard pastels, you can grind them up and mix them together to make some weathering powders. The pigments can be mixed with water and applied around wheels and treads and when it dries you'll get a lovely textured look.

If you really want to hard on the Russian tank theme, the Russians tended to rip the front mud guards off their T-34s or just not have them on in the first place so you could model that on your tank in some way for your imperial tanks.

The sand looks like a cool way to get some texture on the tank, although if you don't like it you're sort of stuck with it.

I generally agree with Tyranid Horde, black primer only is lacking in depth, i know from one good friend of mine that he sprays black and then sprays instantly white over it, in order to get a grey shade that is easier to paint on.

I personally spray black and then Drybrush grey over it after it dried, so i basically am allready layering, kinda.

BTW i like the weathering and stuff stuck to the basilisk, but as someone that regularly sees snowplows, (you try to make snow weathering right?) it is wrong as in the top does not have stuff struck to it.

Generally, have you tried to paint first, then use glue and blow some sand at it in order to get a dust effect?
I'd reccomend however that you try that on a spare plastic part for testing though.

As mentioned, this is the first vehicle I've modeled in nearly ten years so I'm still figuring out the correct order to do things in. It would appear that beginning the weathering process at this stage was a mistake (happy little accident - V).

I mean slaaneshs concept is a chain of "happy little accidents"

Actually, just thinking about snow ploughs, even dirt wouldn't get up to the high parts of the the plough due to critical taper theory. Basically, as more material gets shoved up the plough, it collapses due to the weight of the material. (Yee haw, my geology skills are paying off)

There's no particular way to do things though, that's what makes it fun!

I can still knock most of the sand off if needed. My sand-paste mix wasn't very good so it's pretty fragile. I think I need some finer sand/grit too. The one I currently have is ok for bases but by itself on the Basilisk it looks a little odd, I think.

Regarding the weathering, I agree with Tyranid Horde that it might look a bit unnatural to have sand at the top part of the plough unless it's frozen.
You can find a picture of a Hellhound I made a few years ago in the spoiler tags (to prevent shameless self promotion ).


Might give you some ideas!

A tip about weathering; feed free to spray a spritz of water (some people use a mister) and apply some salt.

Good old table salt is fine as painting over the salt crystals and then brushing off after fully dry makes for a weathered appearance, also known as Salt Weathering.

Mother Dear bought me the Warhammer 40K: Armageddon video-game for Noodlemas; I've been having great fun leading your Steel Legion compatriots to crushing victory over the greenskin invaders.

I've hit a weird funk; I'm finding painting the relatively monochromatic, greyscale R&H quite dull (even though I like how they finish up looking) but I also can't face painting more purple to 'finish' and bring up my Daemons to 3,500pts (plus I have to wait for a new KoS anyway). So what's a girl to do? The obvious answer is to turn to the Children of The Violet Heart and start working on them alongside the R&H, right? The problems there are that i) it's more purple; ii) the CSM model range currently kinda sucks; and iii) I think EC are going to get the DG/TS treatment soon-ish so starting them now seems foolhardy.

Meanwhile, I've been massively enjoying pointy-eared plogs by, inter alia, Tyranid Horde, Ezki and Bellerophon and my fluff for this whole thing has a big [redacted] hole in it that I'm thinking would be neatly filled by a Ordo Xenos/Aeldari sub-plot. My current 'ideas' (which are not in any way shape or form presented as 'finished') involve the Korova being host to a Webway Gate, which an Asuryani force uses to infiltrate the facility and basically slaughter everyone there. The Asuryani, which will probably be Ulthwe so that I can use the Eldrad mini, are then set upon by a Slaanesh-Possessed/worshipping Drukhari force.

I'm not going to build any of the Ordo Xenos, because <IMPERIUM> is a hard limit, but I do have some ideas for the Asuryani and Drukhari. For the Craftworlders, I want to get across the impression that intervention on Kronstaat IV is a big deal. Because the fate of K4 is, in fact, a HUGE deal, for reasons yet to be revealed (though likely obvious to anyone with a calendar and a map). I also want to lean quite heavily on Faction archetypes, so for the Asuryani that's psychic might and subtle influencing, not brute force. They're not there to conquer the Kronstaat system; they're there to nudge events in a more favourable direction. There are three unique Farseer on foot models, including Eldrad, and I want to include all three, at least one squad of Howling Banshees, transports for everything and a few Flyers.

So to the people who know more about Asuryani fluff than I do, what would be a thematically-appropriate way to fill out a 2K list? With a heavy-hitter like Eldrad present it's basically got to be Aspect Warriors, right? Pretty much the entire 2K would be his (her?) personal retinue, right? And can you point me to Aeldari fluff involving these kinds of themes?

Re the Drukhari, I already have a much more specific idea that may already be 2K, or in excess of. I don't have either book yet so I really don't know. It's informed a lot by the contents of the SC! box, honestly. Again, Faction archetypes so Drukhari would be fast raids and extreme cruelty... so while the 'soup' is a broad nod to kink in general, the Drukhari would be specfically all about sadism, narrowly. The whole Slaanesh tie-in would be little more than head-swaps with Daemonettes as Faction Keywords mean I couldn't use them as part of my 'soup'. This also means I have a use for Manufaktura's 'sub series' minis (which are spectacular and VERY NSFW). Anyway, so it's a raiding party led by a Haemonculus with a unit of Wracks, in a Raider. Three Succubi go in a Venom as a kind of death-star type of thing, two other Venoms with Wyches go with them and three more Raiders full of Wyches follow. That's the barebones and any spare points will be filled up with Scourges, Talos/Chronos and/or Ravagers. Oh, and Reavers. I'll have nine Reavers.

Anything obvious I'm missing?

Lastly, this whole subplot gives me an excuse to to rip off Singleton Mosby's excellent ice-mine board (which you can find here). So, like that, but without ice and with a version of the previously posted Dofasco Steelworks (which I'm advised is actually Stelco, not Dofasco).

It would nice to see you try the space elves. Not just because I play them, but to see what you can do with them as I have enjoyed your previous work quite a lot.

I can relate to the feeling of painting same colors over and over. This is why I have to switch armies I'm working on regularly.

If you are going Ulthwe (the coolest craftworld IMO) the most "fluffy" list would be a lot of Guardians, Farseers and Warlocks. Hard hitting stuff would be also operated by guardians, such as War Walkers, Windrider Jetbikes or Support Weapon Platforms.
I think they have the least Aspect Warriors of all the craftworlds. The retinue for Eldrad could be a seer council: lot's of Warlocks in group turning the tide of the battle with psychic shenanigans.

When I play more casually, I like to field Storm Guardians in my Ulthwe list. I like to think them as Eldar militia that are given basic weapons and sent into the fold. This is against the Eldar fluff though, as they value every life of their kin above all else.

As a baseline, my 2000pts lists consist of the following:

- Eldrad and another Farseer
- Few Warlocks
- 2 Guardian Defender squads (all I have at the moment) and maybe some Storm Guardians
- 1-2 Squads of Dire Avengers (depending if I take the storms)
- Two Falcons, three Wave Serpents and a Crimson Hunter / Fire Prism
- Rest of the points go in Aspect warriors, like Swooping Hawks, Fire Dragons or Dark Reapers

Tis the season to be retrospective and take stock. I'm going to cheat a bit, if I may, and go all the way back to October, 2017, when I re-restarted this 'soup'. Between then and December 31, 2018. I built, painted and based

I also did up an Escher gang, the Sisters of Mercy. Contrary to Underhive legend, they are neither departed nor gone.





For a total of 114 miniatures.

I also built another Hellflayer and a Herald on Chariot, along with five more Militia, two Enforcers, a Malefic Lord and a Basilisk, for a total of 125 miniatures/2,660pts. Oh, and the two Summoning Circles and the Statue Garden/Gift of Submission are both built, based and waiting to be painted, too.

So, for various reasons, pretty much everything you see above was painted between October, 2017 and February, 2018, then I basically did nothing at all until September, then I managed to scrape out fifteen Renegades and Zarakynel between then and now. So, I'm going to try and 'step it up' largely by simply being more consistent in 2019, and so my hobby goals are;

1. Bring my R&H up to 4K

2. Build, paint and base a 2K Craftworlds or Drukhari force

3. Bring my Daemons up to 3.5K.

4. Build a 6'x4' modular city board

I don't like Slaanesh daemon modells, but yours i'd love to have.
