thanks mate! it needs to be... have ye seen the stuff of all the other chaps?... sheesh...

monkeytroll wrote:The panel and rivet look works a treat, great work Vik

I think I am currently done with the panelled look now... just to add rivets^^

lone dirty dog wrote:Great job on the new update and loving the embossed reversed rivets

well I thought as I wanted to have metal plating on the actual driveway it needed to have sunken in rivets for a convincing look...

Dr H wrote:Good work on the bridge.

Look forward to seeing what you do with the bathroom items. What do you think of them now you have then in your hand?

it´s very high on my agenda... very high...!^^ as for the quality top notch and they feel very smooth to the hand... assembly will be a pleasure... but I fear the sink and its wheels^^

Camkierhi wrote:Those riveted sheets look fantastic.

thank you sir!

thanks matey!

Hruotland wrote:yeah, that bridge looks very convincing. - But I fear you will have difficulties in bringing the train and bridge together, because of the extreme ramps. I have a feeling you wont be able to place the train on it while cobbled together...

ach...me bleeding aching heart... you put the finger straight on the shameful spot... you are of course right... not even the steam engine will be able to cross the bridge... the wheels will never touch the bridges ramp as the first wheel is too far behind so that it will never be able to drive upwards...sadly... so another vehicle is needed now... I am still holding on to the bridge... but I think this one needs a tracked vehicle to be able to drive over...well... plans are being made but I am most thankful for telling me the truth mate!

M0rdain wrote:Maybe its also a skimmer so can take the bridge with ease?

well... I've tested it and it wont do... but fear not the steamengine wont be for naught... it will be used for something else then...

neil101 wrote:Well Vik its been a good while hasn't it .. Really liking your paneling and inverted rivets technique - the train looks fabulous by the way .. you really have become expert at scratch building mate .. great to see.

the cape of doom always was something that was cool, but a hindrance nevertheless of this character....but a cowl without a cape looks weird, wouldn´t you agree?^^

Hruotland wrote:That's not Vik, that's a cheap impostor. Proof: only nine rivets to see.

LOL...that means if I ever get around to make my own mini of the true vik von domm then I need to show more?...hmmm... I think that can be achieved^^

monkeytroll wrote:Ahh, but the tunic is hiding a mighty rivet-gun

better not to marvel (get it? ) about what the cape is hiding.....

mates... fear not... I am still with you... lurking is a foul surrogate...I need to find the chance to be here again more regularly...I really need to....
to compensate you for the long silence ...again... I will show you the current status of the bridge... currently only bluetaced (thank you cam for these! ) I present the fully working bridge....still not fully riveted... but you get the idea...the counterweight by the way is filled to the brim with iron nails...the only one thing that puts on some weight intense enough and fits in a small container....well... next one will have lots of rivets to show....

the mechanism works by shifting the counterweight back inside the lifting arm...

hope you like...and stay with me....

Well maaaaybe there is a way to bring the bridge and land train together nevertheless! Think of a diorama: the bridge, in front of it the train, idle engine puffing, behind the train something like a hay cart with oxen, one gentlemen with a penny-farthing and a squad of her empress' finest loosing their temper, on the bridge maybe another oxen cart that cannot turn, on the river some chute wich cannot pass the closed bridge... and in front of the land train standing: the engineer, the navigator, the conductor and some passenger of note in a heated discussion over a map...

appendix:

weeeeell, as associating goes, there I got a realistic idea. if you just want to make another vehicle: a steam-powered penny-farthing?is s

another appendix: just got curious. what did I find:

steam-powered Star-velo, modified by Lucius Day Copeland(from Phoenix/Arizona, who also built the well known Phaeton Steam Tricycle car), presented at the Maricopa County Fair in 1884... reality is the most fantastic setting ever.

hey mates...sorry again for the long silence...again... but I have been busy ...busy in hobby terms... I am reaching the finishing line in terms of construction...and the below following posts of all you made quite some impression in my most recent works...but more to that after the replies...

Red Harvest wrote:Moving parts FTW!

Your cutting mat has a frame?

yeah... I need to have a USP for the leagues comp entry...non? ...and indeed, I framed my cutting mat as I am the king of noobs when it comes down to straight cuts... just measuring doesn´t cut it (pun intended... ) so I have a range of special self made rulers for almost every size I need... 1cm,1.5cm, 2cm, 3cm and so on... it really makes building simple boxy stuff way easier and keeps everything at right angles way reliable than I would otherwise be able to make...

Camkierhi wrote:We do miss you terribly.

I am in the process of adding the asked for thousands of rivets... and thanks mate for the heart warming comment...I am way too much of a lurker these past weeks....

lone dirty dog wrote:Thats one nice looking bridge I also noticed the framed cutting map good idea that shame about the train issue for crossing the bridge mind O well gives you an excuse to build something else to cross it

exactly... done exactly this...^^...and riveted it like mad too^^...thanks mate... and as mentioned above... the frame is what keeps me working at right angles at all...

dsteingass wrote:Yeah..Vik's geniusness built that frame for his cutting matt to give him a nice square edge to work from!

I cannot recommend it enough to everyone... the lil setup didn´t cost me a tenner at all... but is essential my best tool...

Manus wrote:Cool project Vik!

thanks mate!

monkeytroll wrote:Marvel-ous piece of engineering old boy.

well....the bridge is currently under heavy riveting... no pics here but believe me it is now fully movable and functioning as I envisioned it... I am actually a little bit proud about it

M0rdain wrote:Wow moving parts and rivets, i'm close to nerdgasm. Pretty dam awesome.

hold your breath...^^... soon I will show the bridge in completeness^^...

you´re sooooooo close to my own actual vision of this piece.... although you´re still not in the knowing of all the parts/ participants...but I bet you´ll like it...
as for your ideas... hmmmm....I like these quite a lot!!!!... a penny- farthing... now that would be a cool and a tad smaller project... I need to do some research about this...
and again... thanks for these cool and helpful and distracting pics

Dr H wrote:Good progress Vik.

What have you got planned for going under the bridge that requires it to raise up (a train, for instance )?

you´ll have to wait and see I'm afraid.......that is what will be the joke part of the entry... and for my stuff it needs to have some kind of comic relief...every time

Camkierhi wrote:What about the train is going under the bridge? !!

hehe^^...well... the train won´t stay forgotten for long... but is on hold... for now....

monkeytroll wrote:How about that bridge going over a railway bridge with the train on?

well...if I would have half a year still of competition time left... we could talk about it.....

Camkierhi wrote:Ah but the water running over a waterfall that is falling on the swing bridge, like one of those Escher pictures, think thats the guy anyways.

er...I am not sure if I have a ruler that would make me able to build Escher like stuff.......maybe with a curved blade?....

hk1x1 wrote:Bridge looks fantastic Vik, and as always I'm sure it will be a riveted masterpiece when finished

if I can manage it... you might be able to se the finished riveted bridge in all it´s glory... I am currently even thinking about colorschemes even now
