That’s excellent, gobert. We’ll deserved recognition. The gate looks nice. Looking forward to the warp energy.

Also nice portal, the green looks fantastic!

Thanks Not Online, I’ve still some more to do on the green, and I now realise that I missed one set of cable!

Cheers Jazzy, it was pretty cool. I’m also really looking forward to the warp energy, I nearly jumped ahead of my steps tonight, but backed down when I saw the time

I didn’t fix the missed cable tonight whilst watching the F1 and to the untrained eye it might look like I’ve done nothing… but my fellow dakkanauts are well trained so will spot; drybrushing on the metallics, plus a Sepia wash on bits of the gold, drybrush highlights on the rocks and skulls, blocking in the black for the floor/walls and tidying up the white of the warp gate.

I didn’t go any further as the Race was awesome, well done to Ross Brawn and co for a successful debut of the new rules packages! Another point on the painting though is that I’m really enjoying the brush that came with the Speed Paints I got, it loads up really well and keeps its point despite my abuse(so far at least!).

Thanks for looking

A bit late to the party, but great work on the Riff in Time gang!
You say they were not high standard, yet you got a shout out

In my opinion they look excellent and very fitting next to the reference standees.

Lovely work on Neyam as well. Such a gorgeous mini!

Thanks man, given the effort that went in the results were really good, and it was nice to get the shout out. Neyam really is a cool mini and I like how she turned out.

So the lurgey has gotten the better of me today and whilst hiding from our cleaner (so as not to infect her!) I did a little no brain necessary painting. I started with highlights on the green cables, then drybrushing the turquoise on the base, some pink lightning, then the green of the warp gate before a final dry brush of Green for the light coming off the warp gate

It was a pretty quick job in the end, and I’m pretty happy how it’s turned out. Perhaps I should’ve gone for a different colour than green for the warp effect but it’s kind of been one of the themes of my Blackstone Fortress stuff. Oddly enough the rear looks better to me, I think because there’s less white and more of the intermediate greens.

With that done I think I’ll return to the slog of the High Elves. Hopefully these guys will become my first ever completely painted Army!

Thanks for looking

Dice gate activated! That's looking great, man. I don't know what a lurgey is, but I hope you get over it quick.

I must have missed something, because I didn't realize the gate was a dice tower. The dice come spitting out of the warp gate?!?! Brilliant.

Looks aces, too.
And I have to second youwashock on both instances about the lurgey.

Oof awesome work on that gate, love the pink lightning snaking out on the ground.

Good luck with the Elves!

Thanks, it’s a cool piece I think! As of Lurgey, I decided to Google it to confirm that my colloquial use was correct and now realise it has no e. So the lurgy is a non-descript illness, kind of like the flu and cold (and in modern times omicron). My current symptoms put me in mind of COVID but my test and my wife’s test were negative, so Lurgy it is!

Yeah, I got it because the D8 in Blackstone Fortress tends to roll badly, this helps loads for that when they bounce on the bottom of the warp bit and bounce out of the gate on to the Blackstone tiles.

Back on the lurgy theme kids often use it to tease or exclude other kids “don’t play with him, he’s got the lurgy”. I get the impression that cooties are used a bit like this too?

Thanks Olthannon, I’m glad you liked the lightning, it’s my favourite bit to paint. I might have to sneak it in to other minis somehow

Thanks Cap, I’m looking forward to giving it some use, though I should probably varnish it first!

I decided to throw some paint around tonight and finished the Celestra grey on the Elves;

Boy was it a slog! It’s the worst step completed though now, and I can start to think about more fun stages.

Great progress on the portal, I like the interaction between the green glow of the warp stuff and the turquoise highlights of the blackstone base. Congrats on getting through the gray on the elves, onto more exciting things!

It is quite a few pointy ears! . I’m finding it quite steady going so far, nothing too trick and slapping on the base coats with a big brush is feeling good!

Yeah, I think so too! They’re coming together well thus far.
Olthannon wrote:Looking bloody good Gobert, nice use of that blue on the mail and the red shoes. They will look cracking!

Thanks Olthannon, it’s an ancient recipe from White Dwarf that I opted for back in the day after years of not settling on a paint scheme.

Thanks Don, the overlap of the dry brushes does look pretty cool. I wish I’d have done more on the front side, but it’s done now!
MegaDave wrote:Dice tower is awesome, glad to see more progress on the elves. Keep up the momentum!

Thanks MegaDave, the Elves seem to be flowing well at the moment, hopefully that will continue over the next few sessions

Another F1 weekend, so it should be another double painting session weekend too. Keeping on with the elves I finished off the blue pouches that I started mid week, before getting the hair base coated brown.

I think that’s now all of the base coats done other than the red details. Hopefully I’ll get that done tomorrow night, though the race should be an exciting one again so I might get distracted again!

Thanks for looking and all of the comments!

I’m trying, that’s for sure! As I often say on here; Slowly, slowly, catchy monkey (or painty High Elfy! )

Another entertaining and tense F1 race so progress wasn’t as fast as I’d been hoping. Though that could also have been that the trim around the chainmail is quite fiddly. As such I only managed to get it finished on the spearmen;

Whilst doing the trim I now also know that I missed a few sleeves on them . I’ll aim to catch those ahead of highlighting them in a few steps time.

Right, time for bed! Thanks for looking

Great to see the elves get some more splashes of color and getting closer and closer each time to the finish line.

Dice tower looks awesome, the glow from the portal is great, but I actually love the pink glow from the floor even more, such an amazing effect!

Yep, I don’t really know anyone that plays Warhammer in real life… I must be mad batch painting these guys, but I really like the idea of my first army being my first finished army

Yeah, they’re slow going with a batch this size, but in reality I’ve probably spent about 10-30mins per model so far which ain’t too shabby! I love the pink lightning too, and with these bases and some really thinned paint it’s pretty easy to do

Taking a break from the Elves, i cobbled together a Techmarine idea I had;

Clearly he’s very much WIP, but I’m liking the direction he’s heading. The teleport bits will probably get mechadendrites or similar. One will have a hand flamer end to use up what’s in those tanks. I might cast a clamp from one of my old school techmarines too, or maybe just some pincer type hooks. Open to ideas if anyone has some

Thanks for looking

Elves are looking spot on, as is the tech marine. I like the antennae on the backpack, that's a really cool look. Are you going to keep his oven mitt?

Thanks, I thought the Dev legs would work well with the techmarine aesthetic. I think the back pack will be the make or break for this
Olthannon wrote:Elves are looking spot on, as is the tech marine. I like the antennae on the backpack, that's a really cool look. Are you going to keep his oven mitt?

I should’ve kept his oven mitt, it’d have been easier than butchering and extending the hammer!

Well, I couldn’t resist the draw of fettling plastic this evening and made good headway with the Techmarine. His arms and body are pretty much done now;

I think he looks pretty good from this angle

But a bit derpy from this one. Some dendrites will hopefully help with that… I just need to figure out how I’m going to do it!

Edit: I’ve seen others use guitar string, but I think I might have some bike brake cable, I wonder if that might work?

Thanks for looking!

Depends on the cable's texture and willingness to keep it's shape, I would say. If cables don't work out, there's always servo-arms.

Wow, that's a lot of elves to paint in one go, good job so far. I'm not surprised you needed a break with that Techmarine. Good luck finding a dendrite solution. Don't let him distract you too long from the elves though!

Yeah, the more I think about them, they tend to be pretty straight and rigid, so probably not the best solution. I am though thinking I could print a tube roller and make some from GS/milliput?
Maharg wrote:Wow, that's a lot of elves to paint in one go, good job so far. I'm not surprised you needed a break with that Techmarine. Good luck finding a dendrite solution. Don't let him distract you too long from the elves though!

Yep, it’s quite daunting to the point I’m not sure whether I’ve bitten off more than I can chew! As such I’m being distracted by more fun projects… Like carrying on the building bug, that I said I wouldn’t do this year!

So, yeah, I’ve not been painting elves like a good boy, instead I’ve been building Space Marines! I’m not really sure why I started with Tactical Marines, I should’ve sorted the Devastator squad really! I’m now though at the point where I’ve got a combat squad pretty much ready for some primer:

In my defence though, it’s not really eaten in to my hobby time as I’ve been doing them through meetings, lunch breaks and a couple of early finishes at work. I promise I’ll get back to the Elves over the weekend!

Thanks for looking

The techmarine and the new tac marines are looking sweet. Don't worry, I end up swapping between different projects all the time stops me getting demotivated.
