As in she doesn't want you to buy more until you get through with those? My answer to that is just don't let her see how many toy soldiers you have! That, and it reduces the amount of ridicule I have to face at home for playing with toys. :(

OK, I have a big update today! I have been saving most of this stuff up for a week or so until it was far enough along to show anything.

I have talked before about how I want to make custom doors and hatches for my Mk I Rhinos. Well, apart from making the side doors and rear ramp open on one of them, I am adding World Eater Iconography to the them as well. For the top rectangle doors, I have this so far:

The circle will have the World Eater teeth, and a globe in the middle, with many rivets on the jaws and Khorne Icon!

And here is a side door:

Again it will get teeth, a globe and many rivets. Then I will press mold the doors to make copies for my other rhinos.

I have been playing with the idea of having at least one squad of (counts as) Plague Marines. But they will be World Eaters, and not infested will Nurgle's Rot, but instead will be augmented with cyborg parts and heavier armor. To show the heavier armor, I am attempting to sculpt Mk III Iron Armor onto Mk VII "Eagle" Armor. It won't look perfect, but it will symbolize heavier armor. Here is my test figure before the extra armor:

As you can see I already scraped away the eagle on the chest.

Here is where he is right now, one leg started from the knee down.

I still need to add Chaos arrows and rivets, and I might re-do the knee...I'm not happy with it. But it's a start!

My plan for my squads has been refined somewhat. I want to have 4, 8 man berzerker squads, and 4 other 8 man squads with a mix of CSM, Plague Marine counts as, and havocs. so 8 total squads that will ride in Rhinos. I want to have their unit shouldpads tie-in with the iconography on their Rhinos. so far I have the following icons, and squad names:

1. Mortem - The shoulder pad and front panel of their Rhino will just have the standard World Eaters Symbol.
2. Golgatha - The pad and panel will feature piles of skulls.
3. Thanatos - One large grinning "death's head" skull
4. Carnificus - Pad and panel will have a skull with large teeth above and below, and the rhino front panel will have an assorment of skulls, rib cages, and other assorted bones in the jaws.
5. Necaria - (means "Kill" I think) Icon will be clenched teeth with blood dripping out between the teeth.
6. Excrucio - ("Maim" or torture) Icon will be a skull screaming in agony will blood dripping out of it's eye sockets and mouth.
7. Incendius - ("Burn") Icon will be the Khorne Icon (or perhaps the World Eaters Icon) with flames around it.
8. Atropos - ("Death", one of the fates in Greek mythology) Icon is a skull with a sword through the top of the skull.
Here is a sketch I did of the shoulder pad ideas so far.

And here are a few of the shoulder pads I have at this point.
The one for Golgatha, I found in my bits box, and I am making press molds of it so I can outfit my whole squad.

it's the one that is furthest along, I only need 2 more pads and the squad will be done.

Last night I made the icons for the Excricio (left) and Thanatos (right) squads:

Now I just have to make press molds for these, and work on the rest of the squads! (this may take some time!)

Well, that's all I have for now. Thanks for looking!

whoa...cool update mate!

the doors look very good! also i like the scratches and wear you already done to the doors! looks very convincing!

as for the shoulderpads... at first i thought you just wanted to paint these...then i saw you want to do them in 3D...that makes the ideas somewhat easier to do... but if you want to cover your rhino in sjulls for the golgatha squad too inskulls...then klaus, not santa...has done a tut on how to paint a multitude of skulls to flat surfaces... it is however on his blog...

http://fischers-design-shop.blogspot.com/2009/02/skulls-quick-and-dirty.html

could be the look you might go for them... by the way... just fell in love with that name of the squad^^

as for the sculpted heavy armor... at first i didn´t quite make it out what you did... that much did it look already as meant to be^^ i think this will look great when done...! how will the breast look like? not understood you there quite right...referrence?

anyway...great work mate!

Yeah! That is awesome! I will definately give that tut a look! I had been thinking of sculpting them, but this might be a shortcut. i will be doing a large amount of skull sculpting or at least press molding now matter what as I want 3D skulls on the extra armor plates. but the rest of the vehicle might just get painted on skulls...we'll see.

I meant to add a picture from Forge World to show my intention for the armor, sorry about that.
This is Forge World's Mk III armor:

and here is a better view of the chest plate I have in mind. This from a Berzerker, but it's about right.

Thanks Vic, I liked the name Golgotha too! Some of the others are a bit of a stretch, but for all the word the ancients had that meanth death or kill or whatever, not many of them sound all that bad-ass!

golgatha is as bad ass as you can get....^^

the armor is one of my favorite... guess why^^ just couldn´t put name to look^^

hmmm... the whole pressmould thing could work too...would make the whole painting issue somehwat way easier and yet would look stunning...just drybrushing something over something then...

like a diamond shaped stamp with four or more skulls made... and then you can press the form into fresh aplied GS and do it over and over again... that could be something totally unique.. rrrrrrr....sounds sexy already!

as for the chestplate... dunno if with that you might selling the look a bit cheap then... have you considered other designs to do?

Oh, you should see in my head all the rivety goodness I have planned for these guys! I even made a pressmold for rivets! Just roll up a we bit of GS, put it where you want the rivet, press the Instant Mold tool I made, and presto! Rivit is done! Just don't touch it for a few hours!

That is a great idea! just like my rivet tool, I'll make a skull tool too! Brilliant Vic! (Leave it to you to want to make skull shaped rivets! Ahahahahaha!)

That breast plate is just the basic idea for the chest piece, It will be mix between that and the Mk II armor chest above it. Hopefully, if I can, I'll work on it this weekend, and show you what I have in mind on Tuesday. And some will have teeth on top and bottom, with a globe or a skull or something in between. There will be variations. I also am thinking of making small shields to attach to their left arms to give them a bit more armor.

I really am kind of stuck on how to give them some mechanical arms and legs here and there without breaking out my saw...I might just have to do that anyway, but I didn't want this to be THAT involved of a project, but it may come to that.

well... if you want to show bionivcs but don´t want to add them in the flesh, so to speak... why not let some cbles or hydraulics loo through out of some joints between armor plates? the stamp idea has lots of uses methinks... the skullrivets...hmm...would that be goodlooking... i think we never know until one of us tries^^

if i could sculpt like you i bet i could make a living with all my funny ideas i can come up with... it is just that my hand eye coordination is not up to par with my imagination...darn...

Great idea with the cables! Maybe even some external hydraulics for power fists and such! nice! Thanks!

I will work on the skull rivets. We'll see how that comes out.

I would LOVE to make a living at this! But until then I just have to sketch out my ideas for later use. I have reams of little 4" x 5" papers all over my desk at home! From Commando Grots to Female Body Armor to the concept for the rectangle Rhino doors!

And my attempts at GS from just a year ago have improved greatly! just keep practicing!

I would almost think about thinking about building a SM army with that lovely pre-heresy rivety goodness stuff! Lupercal!

Yeah, Forge World's stuff is sweet! But they make you pay for it. I had serious thoughts about making a Pre-Heresy World Eaters Army, but, my kids want to eat and we like having a roof over our heads....so that goes in the "when I win the lottery" file. That file is seriously big!

Hell, I bet that you could set yourself a manageable budget of a few marines every month, before you know it, you'd have a Legion! Alpha Legion would probably be my Pre-Heresy army choice...

kidneys....hmmm... not that tasty but selling atm for a good price... and from a known superpower country instead of a low tech country... i think this could be your way into FW stuff^^

yeah i know my when i win the loterry list is also pretty big.... but living poor does remarkable feats to come with stuff to solve problems... when you´re rich you just toss money around and get what you have paid for...

You say that like it's a bad thing.
But you are right, would we be as creative if we didn't have to come up "alternative" ways to do things? Most likely not.

I disagree. We are an artistic and visionary lot by nature. There is the possibility that we'd have an idea and then have someone else make it ( like injection-mold plastic) but bottom line it was still a creative idea. And there's the inherent desire to have something that is genuinely unique and "yours". Even if someone sold something that was 100% EXACTLY what any of us had been looking for, it would still receive some sort og "tweak" that changed it.

Just my opinion.

Great work you've shared! I'm really enjoying this a lot.

I agree completely, I was going to buy the FW renegades upgrades for my whole entire renegade army, But I diddnt have the cash, so now I am making some conversions that I would have never attempted before

Just a quick update on the Rhino Top Hatch and Side Doors.
This was a test for my Gray Stuff Rivet making tool that I made from Instant Mold.

I liked it, and decided to go with it.

And after I trimmed the excess off the rivets and added the center globe.

Before I did press molds, I cut a line down the center of the globe so the doors appear to be able to open.
And here is the side door.

And here are press molds of both of the doors.

The press molds aren't perfect, but not bad. At some point, I may have the doors cast in resin. Especially if I get many more Mk I Rhinos. If I get some Mk II's, I'll do similar iconography for those doors.

And here is what they look like on the Rhino.

Also, did some work on the shoulder pads I had mentioned earlier.
Here is the press mold of the World Eater Pad.

And here next to the original pad that I sculpted the icon onto.

Again, not perfect, but not bad.

@Dave - Haha! Yeah! Se below for details.

@ El Vic - I don't know about patriotic or not, but what world would the World Eaters like to destroy the most? I would assume it would be Terra. And North America is where I envision the Golden Throne to be.

And the globe was just a ball of GS that I sculpted nice and smooth and fairly flat on a sheet of styrene, then I added the land after it had cured.

For the Rivet maker, I just heated some Instant mold, and pressed to the existing rivets on the Mk I Rhino. Then I took a small ball of GS, put it where I wanted the rivet, and pressed. The GS doesn't stick to the Intant Mold.

@ JBrehaut - Thank you very much! I really like the Instant Mold. I would like to get into resin casting too, but that is going to have to wait a while....quite a while most likely.

I may try that, I have a couple of pots of liquid GS on the way.
