Alpharius wrote:And really, for the most part, the 'duds' are older models.
I can't think of a recent offering that would be considered a dud.
(And no, that isn't a challenge! )
Alright. I barely knew about this game system until a month ago, so I had (still have) no idea what was what. Can't say that there are that many horrendous sculpts though, it's more about weird posing of the model and some design choices that I don't like, but that's a personal opinion. I can still appreciate the quality of the Nomad "furry", for example, posted a while back and why someone would want that, but I don't care for it much.
Kilkrazy wrote:I agree. The game came out on 2006 or 7. The earliest models are clearly the least accomplished...

though still perfectly acceptable compared to some modern GW offerings.
The latest Infinity figures are astonishingly good.
Price wise, the Infinity models were quite challenging a couple of years ago, thanks to the strength of the Euro. The latest massive GW price increases make them look reasonable again.
Haha, that model is so ugly, but I'd say the Minotaurs take the price. The overall spectrum of quality of the GW sculpts is much wider than for other systems. You have complete pieces of gak competing with beautifully crafted minis, while in Infinity it's more like 'really cool' versus 'meh'.

OK, Noob question. How many models does it take to get a decent force that is fun to play? This looks skirmish oriented... just a few models... or am I committed to a cast of thousands as with most 40k armies?
Granted, I know I can proxy, but painting the minis is what keeps me interested generally, even though I like to play as well.

From last page, it looks like 6 is a good start, and then for tournaments you go up to 10-16 models. $200 max, perhaps?

16 models would be a real 'horde' army in INFINITY, and you have to remember that 10 is the max. per group for an Order Pool, so it isn't always advantageous to go above 10 models...

Wow. Amazing stuff. I am going to think about eBaying some of my less used GW minis with intention of picking up some Infinity ones... as soon as there's a 50% off sale again. How was the last one announced?
filbert wrote:Apologies if this has been answered recently, but any ideas if they are going to do another half price promotion any time soon? I missed the last one but would love to get in if there is one on the horizon...
The guy from my LGS did spoke on the phone with CB. They wont be making a new 50% again, that was a very special offer due to the Infinity Week by Beasts of War.
Also, after the Infinity week they are having problems with the stock due to the increase of sales in the UK and USA market. Same thing that is happening to Privateer Press.
Looks like GW is the shipwreck and everybody is jumping to new different things.

Well, we can only hope - although I have no intention of giving up WH40k, I do need to find some Infinity opponents in the UK, there don't seem to be many.
@Gitsplitta - I've bought 5 models, and know which 6 I'll be buying next, this will give me the option to field some variations on a 300pt army, featuring a 'full' 10 men. I'm no expert, but as Alpharius mentioned, 11-14 men might even limit your options, and it is quite difficult to include more than 10, assuming you like cool elite troops and such.
Eldar Corsairs: 4000 pts
Imperial Guard: 4000 pts
Corregidor 700 pts
Acontecimento 400 pts

Well I've just bitten the bullet, ordered the rulebook (I know you can download, but I wanted to get the complete experience), and a small collection of minis. I'm just completely in love with some of the model range - makes me think back to all those years as a child watching manga movies

I know we have a lot of new players starting up out there. Remember if you have any rules questions or just need clarification you can:
- Use the Infinity Wiki
- Pop on the official forums and get an answer pretty fast
- message me, though that one may be delayed depending on the time of day

Anyone have a good site or references to go to for that cool looking scenery and tabletop goodness they have going on there?
I've seen the one for the habs, but does anyone have some good reference sites that cater to Infinity scenery?
At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Micro Art Studio announced months ago that they signed a deal with Corvus Belli so they can release INFINITY terrain.
They have some walls and they said that they are making a building, also, they alreay have some generic sci-fi stuff that looks cool for Infinity.
Also, World Works Games, have a lot of really cheap PDF files of printable paper terrain. There is a module named "TITAN" that looks like a shooter videogame, "Quake" style. Cool.
EDIT:
Finally, it looks like the Beasts of War guys ar creating a new Youtube account with a new BOW channel. Now the is THE Beasts of War.

Gotta say that knowing how important terrain is in Infinity (none of this open field/empty table nonsense), these free prints make it possible to enjoy the game the way it's meant to be enjoyed.

The toposolitario stuff is GREAT for infinity. We've gotten the game kicked off in our FLGS and that terrain is the quickest way to get a battlefield set up that isn't all Grim Dark. Mad props to that guy!
I really hope that a lot of the great boutique games gain some ground after GWs string of Faux Pas. I still love me some 40k, but a change is very welcome indeed.
@ nathonicus: my sentiments exactly. If you do you print and build those FREE TERRAIN RESOURCES listed, please be sure to take pictures to promote a great alternative system.

Everything there besides the markers and the infinity minis is from the topo site, including the paper craft ship. Pic courtesy of PsychoticStorm of the Infinity forums since I haven't folded my 60+ IKube I have printed off lol.

Dagger, are those all printed on standard printer paper or cardstock? I've downloaded a bunch of pdfs from that site, but haven't started yet en masse. Working on the sansara wheeled vehicle- I'll post pics when it's finished.

Most people print it on cardstock. I used 90lb I think 120lb is the best (rating for US cardstock).
