Yeah, a friend of mine noted that a couple days ago. Dark Eldar are getting a huge new release soon, but you wouldn't know that by looking at their website or reading their White Dwarf...

Yes, but Games Workshop simply can't make models for everything. It's simply good business sense. At least now you have a stunning range of versatile and affordable models that are easily converted/swapped. Similarly, at least now you have some artistic licence to go by/ conversion to aim for in the pictures provided in the Codex.
IMHO the model range is one thing that shouldn't be complained about in regards to DE...

Anyone considering using their older raider models as venoms? Or is this just a stupid idea I had?

The next bit of pre-orders were supposed to being on Monday, I thought. Maybe Tuesday.

So...I went to the store today to place some pre-orders for DE models, and...they "don't do pre-orders".

fething waste of time that was. And $15 in gas...

In either case I got to look at the codex. Really odd design choice for the scourges in my opinion...bird men? They even have beaks and bird feet? Everything else looked great though, the new Talos in particular looks like it could be an awesome model, and the illustration for warp beasts is what the chaos spawn should have looked like.

Lelith is hot.

Thankfully the hellion model they previewed on the website was the absolute worst of the bunch, the others all looked really good. I also saw the jetbike models in person and they're nice.

Anyway, I was ready to throw down $150 and pre-order a good bunch of stuff to start with, but like I said...oh well, at least I get a discount at the Warstore. :\

I guess one good thing happened today, though. I got 8 kroot hounds for $4.

Not a bad idea, but it might not be a bad idea to hack off the front half of the old Raider and shove a Vyper on there. Would look pretty sweet. There was a picture earlier in the thread of precisely that (apparently 'Eavy Metal's Venom conversion).

I might use old raiders as Venoms, thats a pretty good idea. In fact, these additional unit/vehicle variants are very handy for those of us who already have some Dark Eldar.

I also have some unnassembled Raiders that will be merged with the new Raider and Ravager kits. I'm not sure exactly what to do, but I'm leaning towards addign extra floor space to the raiders and giving more armour plating to the Ravagers

I'm not sold on the idea of using vypers to kit bash venoms. Don't recite fluff to me on how venoms are harlie transports. GW had the chance to do that in the new DE codex and didn't.

The vyper design doesn't fit with the new DE aesthetic. Personally I'm thinking of a larger DE jetbike (new style). With the platform looking like a large skyboard. Embarked troops would harness onto the platform. Sadly, it'd have to be made from scratch.

Here's what I recomposited using some of Jes' sketches to give you an idea of what I'm thinking. Note...I take no credit for the sketches (obviously).



Hmm...Looking at it though, I think more of an obvious platform on the back end. Though, this could fill that Heavy Fighter role nicely as is.

I just figured the older raider models are sharp and twisted looking, the name venom makes me think of one. I've seen the conversion, I didn't like it all that much to be honest.

Also my raider transports are painted green, I think this suits the name well. I've only ever played Dark Eldar in 40k so I'd like to keep elements of my old army in the new one (replacing most of the infantry because I would like the opportunity to slow down and paint a really nice army with no time pressure). I think the raiders would make good Venom transports, they just need to be given the appropriate wargear.

No he cant but he can apear 1"away from enemy models and can shoot a weapon that can pin them

And here's one good reason at least to field Mandrakes (infiltrate): he can attach to the unit when he arrives and gains a meatshield for that turn.

Is he an upgrade for a unit of mandrakes or just a random one man unit dude?

one man unit, hq choice. He deploys alone like marbo anyhwere outside of one inch of enemy models. I think he is kind of just a mandrake with a free pain point and a 5++. If he is super cheap he might be alright to field as a cheap hq but other than that he is kind of bland

Was it a GW store or a B&M? I ask because I've got over $300 in stuff on pre-order being sent straight to my house from my local GW (LA Battle Bunker). I had a gift card so my first batch of stuff is coming direct from GW and after that it's off to the Warstore for 3 Ravagers, 1 more Raider (maybe), 3 boxes of hellions, and 3 vypers to convert into Venoms (the easy way as long as I add some bitz from the raider sprues). I might also add 2 boxes of reavers if I really feel into it.

Decapitator is like Marbo but without any of Marbos good rules. He appears, does nothing then dies

If you wanna kill ICs use Drazar and incubi
