Actually, though I'm not fond of the technique myself, I kinda like the "dusty" look that drybrushing gives your models... It fits pretty well, almost like living statues of marble valour & stone fortitude...

@leadlegion: little and often. 10 mins here and there stack up! It's been a case of developing a style that works for me that is simultaneously self-contained!
@eldartau: stay safe buddy! Did lots of cooking last night so that helps me stay ahead big time: only need to prep tomorrow's dinner, but that's easy. 11 hr day today though :( parents' nights are torture; who says teachers are workshy?!
Itching to get on with the dreads. May also have dug out all the parts for converting Karamazov again - I think nemesis daemon hammer on a furioso halberd mount could work?

Some shots of where I am with these guys. I don't want to spend too much time on them, oddly - they're a bit of light relief, and should stay thus, I reckon.
Oracles of Tzeentch are tricky to offset against the gk colour schemes as the red and gold are there. So, trying to make it start to pop.
I love the FW dreads but I think I'm going to have to black wash the purity seals first; sepia just hasn't picked it up.
Need to get on with the bases. Still, progress. Very crazy work time but it's worth trying to preserve a little sanity, eh?

Not sure what chapter to do the helm. I was thinking weepers, but maybe not. Perhaps once his corpse is sorted I'll have a better idea.
Bit over-exposed. Lamp finally lost to the warp. My lovely wife is however thinking of getting me a daylight lamp for Xmas, huzzah!
Lovely model. Very pleased how the psycannon conversion worked.

I wanted something really different for the nemesis weapons. It's a very simple but effective technique I think. VMC Dark Green is wonderful stuff. Thanks guys for the kind words! I wonder whether to continue it on some weepers - I have probably enough bits to do a test fig for possible Death Company. Alternatively, I wonder whether to do it as the armour for DC Weepers (marble reversed as obsidian - sound ok?)

@leadlegion: Ha, too true buddy.
Not much to report, and rubbishy pics alas.
Decided to go smurf on the base helmet of the Psyfleman:
I don't the EC's going to make the cut: just makes it all look a bit cluttered. Don't fear, I'm sure I'll find a home for him.
Been bringing up the golds on the Oracle of Tzeentch:
And working on armour for Claws of Lorek termie (disregard his skin tone!)
Still needs his mortal wound detailed, too. Bit the bullet and didn't silver trim, instead went with the stripe colour - I really like it but, as ever, c&c sought!
Also, garage now reassembled, although weather's not really conducive to ab priming. Might have to break out the cans. I think I'm going to do a chaplain as a test for the obsidian armour and see how it goes. I also dug out my other retinue folk so I can keep moving forward there.
Last query. What geek present should I request of the wife this Yule? Any thoughts?

Thanks buddy
Strange day. Power out at my kid's school = much juggling of work & wife. Odd.
Right, where we were? Ah yes, tidying up the dreadsetc:
The first cc dread, the mk iv, with claws of Lorek corpse (aka solar_lion)
I took some advice (well, tried to) from gits and went with much stronger contrasts in the flesh tones.
I do love that a/c conversion, so tool an extra shot for bragging rights.
And t'other one:
Still not 100% happy. Think it looks a bit scrappy and lacking in contrast. Ah well.
I do like pose of the corpse, however. Also, using silver to highlight the gold seemed positive.
And a comparison:
Onto the Psyfleman:
Servitor, now with basing. For variety, he's in situ on the near-finished shrine:
And a test figure for the jade-obsidian on a whole marine (!) that I had kicking about. I'm not going to give my view on it just yet, I'm keen to hear yours...
Until anon,

Nice dreads man! I hope that when I grow up (out of my mid twenties) that I can juggle all of this stuff as well as you do!
Dreads look good but the corpses are not as dyanmic and it pulls a lot out of the model. I am not an experienced enough painter to tell you how to fix it though.
I enjoy the jade marine but I feel it should be a little brighter.
I hope this helps.

That's amazing looking jade, but my comments on your weeping angels stand. Make say, the armor plate the jade color... bot everything else (edging, decorations, cloth, etc) need to be done on a normal technique so that it really sets the jade off as something special.

Oooo more shinies! great work graven, loving the jade test model, but i would agree with Gits. Maybe just with the equipment as opposed to bits of the armour, so grenades, weapons etc, and maybe the cables as well...? But even saying that the test has come out really well and i like the look even without any highlights/other colours...

Agreed .. the armor itself would look awesme that way. but the attachments and decorations should be pure. This way it defines the armor being the jade effect.

Well, you've thrown me with your comments chaps, cos I really wasn't convinced I liked it!
@et - well, each to their own. I suppose that perhaps the muted tones could Pop more though, I'll have a think.
And as for the rest of you... Many, many thanks on the positivity - and here it is with other colours blocked in (apart from yellow on knee wreath). No highlights yet.
Phone pic, but still. My original plan had been a much blacker base, and less obvious green - more obsidian than jade. Still, moving towards this.
Thoughts y'all?
