Very good work of late, Sigur (as always, but I've not commented for a while).
Nice rust streaks on the biogas plant thing (and nice green on top too).
Good job on the chaos bits.
And the little cart is nice. All your wood painting is nice.
The red armour plates on the scorpion thing are brilliant. Really nice.
and liking the BB orks too.

@cosmic: Thanks, Mr.Cosmic! Yeah, I figured I would either go with orange or purple, did the first test mini in Orange and I really liked it, so I stuck with that. At first I was heavily leaning towards the Orcland Raiders scheme (and in the end I nicked some elements from their colour scheme because it's so pretty). The thing is though that there are SO many Orcland Raiders teams around on the interweb it would be best to have something slightly different. The thing is that IF I paint something for myself, at least it should be interesting/different/pretty enough so I can use it to advertise my painting service at least.
@Dr H: Heyhey, thanks for dropping by again!
The current state of things on the BB Orcs:
I got less painting time than planned this weekend as I was out of the house pretty much all of Saturday. On Sunday I had to get some stuff done in between and didn't get to paint as much as I'd liked too either. I have to admit that I also spent quite some time browsing the internet for affordable mid-1990s BB Orc models to bolster my team. The search was not fruitful.

Here's an update on the Orcs:
Teef, skullz, flame-y patterns done. JUst a little bit in between putting Foundry ACW minis together (don't let the pictures on their website fool you. The minis are first rate Perrys sculpts. The good stuff.) and putting the finishing touches to Forgeworld Chaos monstrosities.

@Greldinard: Hey, thanks very much!
@GiraffeX: Thanks for the heads up. Yeah, they're really nice minis. And yeah, they are darned expensive. Also: I've seen renders as well as proper greens on their website. Which of their models are computer designed, do you have any sort of overview in this regard? The thing is though that all of the "fantasy football" miniatures seem to be very steeply priced. And On top of that, none of them seem to fit the Orcs I got. They all cater to the now popular "scruffy/junk"-look.
So, anyone of you want to get rid of their 2nd/3rd edition Orc minis?
Today I put together a bunch of Death Korps of Krieg minis. God, I forgot how bloody fiddly and immensely time consuming these are to put together.

@Wehrkind: Cheers, glad you liked the review!
First unit of a new ACW commission. Those are Wargames Foundry minis sculpted by the Perrys. They wear the Confederate regulation dress which never really got widely used, but each Confederates army usually features at least one units of these guys. Usually comprised of minis which march in perfect order.
Unfortunately I won't base them which of course always adds a lot to any unit. I'll add flags though. Hope you like them!

@Gitsplitta: Yeah, I've been thinking of Chicagork Boars. Excellent suggestion (because board are always great and mandatory when it comes to Orcs). Or Aaaargh's Armtwisters (for which Aaargh would be the name of the coach). Or Orkakringer Schnitter. Which is more of a local thing (based on Ottakringer Schnitt, a local beer speciality I'm rather fond of. Ottakringer being the brewery. Schnitter = Reaper in English).
@Greldinard: Thanks very much. I'm really fond of those models. Sure, they won't resonate with a lot of people, especially younger ones of course, but give me a quasi-monopose orc on sprue with a " GW 1994" stamp on it and the model can be sure of my affection. Also, a friend of mine gave them to me so we could play Blood Bowl, so I better make them look good. I'm not a hugely ambitious person, but sometimes, in odd situations, I just WANT to make models look nice so even people who don't like the sculpts will like the look of them. Take any of these huge plastic things GW make today. Technically really amazing models of course, but give some dude an airbrush, some washes and a bit of experience and he will make these things look so people will be impressed. That's just not my thing. I mean I attempt to do it when I get the chance to because I try to make everything look nice of course, but there is a distinctive new way of how some people paint big GW models. It's very efficient, it's very fast, it's very "organic", its very impressive in pictures on the internet and on ebay (that usual "get latest plastic brick asap, paint it over the weekend so it's up on ebay by Sunday evening" fare.). Not my thing. And oh how much they build on basic airbrushwork still amazing the pants off some people. I don't know, I mean people do amazing stuff. Many better than me, some different to me, some worse than me. Oh well, ramblings. Sorry for that. I really like those plastic fellas, glad people like them, can't wait to get the crap beat out of me on the pitch.
@Cosmic: Cheers muchly, Sir! Maybe something brutally kunnin' or something cunningly brutal.
@Dr H: Thanks very much, couldn't ask for more!
Okay, Death Korps of KRIEG!!112 is finished. At least the infantry.

Twin-Linked heavy stubber on the move:
Started painting the first mounted commissar too. Hope you like them!
In terms of BloodBowl: The game on Thursday was cancelled. My gaming buddy takes the opportunity to paint another of his teams up for the occasion (his Dark Elves and High Elves we played with last time he actually painted in his teens!). That'll take a week longer, so this week we're playing Operation Squad (that WW2 game I've been playing lately).

@Greldinard: At this point in time I feel obliged to mention that present company is ALWAYS exempt from any harmful comments I make during my ramblings. Just out of curiosity - do you paint the latest GW release each week asap and put it on ebay at the end of the weekend or do you just use the weekend to get hobby stuff done then? The colour I used on the jackets is called Intermediate Blue by Vallejo. It's a really nice blueish grey. Another piece in the puzzle of my efforts in making these dudes not look too boring AND make them stand out a little on the grey rubble bases. @Gitsplitta: Thanks very much indeed. Always a good feeling to make people like minis they usually don't enjoy as much. That general notion of people finding certain things boring is something I ran across more often in recent years as I ventured off more and more into historicals for large chunks of the time. I've always been an IG fan (my biggest 40k armies are IG) because I like the underdogs, I originally came (amongst other things) from a scale modelling background so I've always had a thing for military history and so on. Some people find that stuff boring. A few months ago on Warseer I had a very similar comment about some historical models I posted as alternatives to Warhammer empire state troops (or rather the fact that they don't fit) and that comment contained the phrase "I think they look boring because they are just soldiers" (or something along that line). That "just soldiers" stuck with me for some reason. I mean in 40k it's all "just soldiers" too. Some wear fancier pants or metal pants or magic hats. But that's just me. I like Infinity for large parts, but I could clearly do without swords and aliens in that game. It's different tastes. And it's great that miniature wargaming covers all those tastes. Btw, what happened to your avatar? Did you get yourself a new car on the side? Mounted Commissar#1:

I like the aliens in infinity sig but I have to agree with you about swords for the most part. Knives sure but swords don't seem to quite fit the setting for the most part.
I have to admit I find "just soilders". To usually be some of use most interesting armies. Sure they may not be too unique individually but as a force they look great. Even with similar or identical models adding some bits here, changing some painting there and the odd bit of green stuff can do wonders.

Well, ya see... it's like this. I was minding my own business just puttering around on dakka when one of those EVIL mods who's name I shan't mention (RiTides) started giving me crap about the fact that it was February and my avatar was probably in need of changing. Well, at the time I didn't have any pics of my old avatar on my computer to upload, all I could find was this. It's the heraldry from a Bugatti Veyron that I saw last time I was in Chicago. I will eventually find something more suitable... but for the time being, it'll have to do.
Nasty mods...

@carlos13th: Thanks for the comment! Yeah, individualizing models can become an important and rewarding thing to do if we're dealing with skirmish stuff. Always a question in how far it's required for the project at hand. As for infinity - to be honest I never played against any of the aliens, never painted any of them either. To be TOTALLY honest, I haven't played any Infinity since summer 2012. I bought the Riot Grrrl with Spitfire when she was released (pretty bad sculpt, so I wasn't too eager about painting her. Shame, I like the name and the concept and of course the reference of early 1990s popcultural stuffs), bought a Wildcat with heavy missile launcher once, mostly out of obligation for my LGS (weirdly proportioned, but i'm afraid that's a common thing with Infinity now. Too long legs, too small heads) and because I'm a sucker for any of the -cat units. Last month I bit the bullet and bought the Corregidor sectorial starter box because I had to buy SOMETHING at that new store so I could have them put my business cards on their front desk and the box was 30% off. I think I paid about as much as I paid for my first two starter boxes back when I started. GW's got nothing on Infinity's price hikes over the past 4 years I think. However, they fell victim to my new policy on minis I get for my own: I leave them in their box and put them away in a different room in the house so I don't even get the idea of "just quickly build and paint them" whilst I've got more important things to do.
@Gitsplitta: OMG POLICE STATE!!!12 Good new avatar though. That one you had for like a day between the Bugatti and this one I wasn't too hot on, but that one looks right and gitsplitter-y.
From the collection "sigur doesn't know what the heck he's doing, so the paintjob takes 40% longer" - ACW Confederates in the fabled "butternut" coloured uniforms:
I glued them onto those sticks just so I could take a WIP shot for you guys. You'll notice a gap - that's the lieutenant, another flag waver and a drummer which aren't finished yet. The minis on the stick are pretty much done. Just some small touch-ups and highlights on the shoes left to do. Butternut is one of these things people can argue about forever on how to get them to "look right". Just like Dunkelgelb or Feldgrau. Or the RIGHT red for British redcoats. Pretty silly. But still, there is a certain look you want to achieve and I somehow couldn't get that look right. I ended up too yellow, highlighted it, had to tone it down which pretty much killed all the highlights, had to do some additional manual shading and highlighting again and so on. But now I like the boys. Hope you like them too so far.
After that I'll do General Lee, another officer on foot and a flag bearer on horse, then the project is finished for now. Client said I'd get the next units in early March at Austrian Salute.

@Gitsplitta: Thanks. The thing about having no clue what I'm doing mainly results in the project taking MUCH longer than anticipated. The results however usually end up being good because at some point I go "fudge it, I have to work out how to make that look good now" and time becomes a secondary factor. @carlos13th: Me too, believe me. Even though they make these bloody models on computers now I'm rather eager to paint those fellas. Actually my gaming buddy who has very little interest in Infinity got himself a Bakunin starter pack about two years ago. I think he painted half a figure from that box so far. I think that if there's two things I'll never get him to play is Infinity and anything zombie-related. That's okay though. Have you seen that "masterclass" (talk about an unnecessarily overused word these days. But I guess whatever GW declares to be a thing EVERYBODY has to copy out of fear of not being ALL AND EVERYBODY inclusive) book by Angel Giraldez? Symbol picture of a thick, hard-bound book. Description reads: 150 pages, soft-cover. 45 or 50€ plus shipping. Granted, you get a miniature along with it ( IIRC Corvus Belli sell single minis for ~10€ now), but still. I almost bought it, but it was kinda steeply priced and it was sold out within 10 minutes anyway. The guy IS a great painter but above all, he's got really, really good PR. I dread all these other painters who'll follow suit in the near future. Sorry for sounding like an old man waving his walking stick around more and more lately. In short: Yus, would love to paint my Infinity minis. Main problem is that I never play Infinity. Even worse - I play a ton of other things I should paint minis for and I technically don't even have time for THAT. So I won't go to Salute this year. Not really breaking news, but something to chat about. Anyone of you going to be there? Garfy of Tale of Painters surely will be there again, and I assume that TEN will be there too, standing around the Forgeworld booth. I went in 2013, it was really cool even though I was all on my own, but it's a quite expensive trip. I'll be at Austrian Salute of course. Funnily enough I'll probably be at Hungarian Salute too this year. Very much looking forward to that. As for other local stuffs going on: Vienna Fantasy Gaming con is back! Used to be one of my favourite events throughout the year, mostly due to the excellent bring&buy part. Granted, it was more like a big fleamarket of great stuff. Due to it not quite working out for the organizers it was on hiatus for two years, now it's back for 2015 as a three(!) day thing and a rather hefty entrance fee. When I read about the event making a comeback I immediately emailled the organizers, but ended up not doing a table/painting workshop there. Mostly because I want to know what the new event looks like. It seems like it's even broader than it used to be before (I expect a LOT of Larping/cosplay and fantasy novels stuff being around) and to be honest I'm not too keen on the idea of doing a three days event happening for the first time. Especially as there's quite a lot of other stuff going on around the time and I know how much these events set me back in my general schedule. Not that I don't greatly enjoy doing them, but three days, even if it's a local thing, is a bit much and it always requires more preparation than I think it would and it usually (especially after three days I would imagine) includes an additional day of collapsing. So I just got a visitor's ticket. 15€ for one day. Certainly not cheap but oh well. The bring&buy alone is too tempting. I might get flashbacks to that one time I passed up on the opportunity of getting a full Mighty Empires set for 20€ just because I wanted to shop around a bit more on the day. x( Anyway, good times. Lots to look forward to. The situation of wargaming events here in Austria is as complicated as it ever was. We still lack that one thing which includes everything in tabletop/miniature gaming and that thing to which people actually are willing to travel. Maybe it's the nature of us mountain people here, but there are many smaller enclaves, some of whom are just not very interested in travelling for three hours or something like that. Well, thanks for bearing with me, I'll go back finish those ACW dudes now.

There is often things to learn from painters that are better than you, or indeed anyone who is better than you are a certain task. Pretty sure Angel must have sold something to the devil for the ability to paint as well and as quickly as he does but dont sell your self short mate your painting is pretty damn good too.

Thanks. And it indeed is very interesting reading how other people paint of course. I ordered the book now (found the order form again). The way Element games sell the book is really nice too though. None of that faffing about as with the pdf form you gotta download and email to them. Element Games also have a great reputation from what I hear. Shame they don't offer free world-wide shipping.
