So, what did you decide? Did you go ahead and add it up there?

That deadline is looming large isn't it? I've been watching it get closer and listening to people talk about it without really taking it in.

Talking about the shirts today finally made it click.

*rushes off to order gifts*

Forgive me now! Tomorrow I may no longer feel guilty...

Whoo boy you had better get on that, things are gonna have trouble arriving at this late hour I'm gonna have to go local for anything I haven't bought that I'm not also making

I'm gonna go for it. I've got the stencils in place to put white on the blades now, we'll see how it goes.

So here's what I came up with for the shirt. I think I should have kept it more like the guy on the front, the subtlety was cooler than 'moar blooo', but I think I'm happy enough with it to keep truckin.

What do you guys think? Also, martians about half done in the photo, I love how easy they are to paint

Yeah... I'm feeling exceptionally butt hurt right now because of the expedited shipping costs I just paid.

Everything else will be local. Next year I'm going to take a page out of your book and make a bunch of gifts. I've been looking at getting a scroll saw all year. Maybe I'll get one with Christmas money and spend the first part of the year learning how to use it and the second part of the year making everyone's Christmas gifts.

I like how the shirt turned out! How many more do you have to make?

Forgive me now! Tomorrow I may no longer feel guilty...

Yeah a scroll saw could be really sweet. A router with a table too. Someday =/

I'm gonna make the girls at least one each so a minimum of two. I may make them two each with time though. I'm not sure how much my sisters or wife wear regular old t-shirts or I'd make them some.

I'm thinking of doing designs like I would put on a shirt but on a foot-square piece of paper-board (Idunno what else to really call it, its papery but too thick for paper, but it's not really cardboard).... kind of like a little poster for people. We'll see though... times running out quickly.

Alright I managed to get the grunts and troy dipped.

Since I have, at most, 12 days left to make shirts for the kids... I probably better get on that =/

Alright I got those grunts and Troy finished up:

4 more martian grunts!

Which makes for a total of ten, half way there!

I like how Troy turned out. I painted him how I wanted without referencing the studio scheme/art, and serendipitously ended up with almost the same thing.

Finally we have my favorite martian, the "Ack Ack Me Bro!" pose in the center. I may have to make a silhouette of him and put that on a shirt

Yeah so I did a quick trace of his pose and I may want to take another picture but I'm fairly certain I can get a good silhouette off of him... This shirt may have to happen but I need to do the Xmas stuff first.

Yeah, Mantic kickstarted it and the stuff has been hitting retail for the last couple of months or so. More to come. I already have most all of it though as I'm a kickstarter fiend sometimes =/

Started out as a 50's trading card thing. Then a movie in the late 90s or early 00's. The boardgame is with Topps which has rights to the trading cards (of which they've done a new set, as well as graphic novels and other stuff) but not the movie.

Ruleswise it's like Deadzone Lite, and can be expanded up to a 4x4' play area for larger scale battles.

I'm a little over halfway done with the main box game contents (well models, not counting the scenery), I think I've got 60% down. Gonna make a push to get them finished this winter, though I've still got other things to do.

Indeed! They failed to include them in my initial shipment but sorted me out on the follow-up. All of the Martians should come with an appropriate amount of helmets.

They look a little odd-shaped until you go to put them on and discover the kind of lip bit goes right over the collar on the front of their suits.

Hey, look who's still kickin

I've kind of got the rest of my MA box mapped out in the order I want to do it too. I've still got some other projects I wanna work on soon as well but the MA stuff goes fast and it's one of the easier games to get people to try to play so I'd like to finish it off quickly.

I still haven't actually done any Kickstarter stuff. I was going to do the Kings of War 2 but none of my gaming group was sure they were going to play. I'm always so jealous when I see the boxes being opened.

Oooh, nice upgrade

I remember when I hit 500 or something it said dipping with woodstain, which I was doing at that exact moment, was a good laugh.

I should probably stay away from Kickstarters. There is a strong desire/urge to "get all the things", I own six deadzone factions lol. I mean sure I can provide a friend any faction to play... but hell... I could probably run an 8 person tournament or more with the ridiculous amount of DZ I have floating around. Actually I think that's just limiting it with terrain, enforcers can make a team with maybe 6 dudes so yeah... could have several of those

Getting an army on the cheap is still kind of pointless if I won't game with it. Well not really, I've really come to enjoy the painting part of this hobby a lot more.

Kind of in a weird way though. I mean I like painting. But I'm not terribly good at it. I don't have a strong natural talent and I haven't had any training or classes. I like getting things finished though, transitioning them from the TODO pile to the DONE shelf. Sometimes I try a bit harder, but there's a hill there to be climbed... It's going to take a lot of effort and practice to get noticeably better and I don't really have the time or will to tackle that right now. I'm still fairly content to bust stuff out, and even doing my base-minimal highlights-dip-seal is getting me hours of practice gradually if inefficiently honing my skills a bit as I go.

Cool T-shirt. What other designs are you planning?

Maybe it's time for an Kickstarter intervention haha

But what you do need to take into account is that you are finishing stuff Grim You may well be collecting more toys to form a back log, but you'ree still getting finished pieces out. The rate at which I finish stuff is ridiculously slow, I have a frankly embarassing pile of stuff to do, but I'll still keep adding to that pile, and yes, I'll jump in on various KS fro no reason other than "Oh, Shiny!" I blame it on my great-great grandad being a were-magpie, that must be it

Were-magpie huh. Nice heritage.

Thanks guys.

I think if I can just cut down on kickstarters overall, I can still participate but just not buy one of EVERYTHING Plus... it'll be ok.

MA stuff huh... I've got 3 sets of novs vira which is maybe 30 more minis.. two batches of science division (like 24), 5 giant bugs with handlers, lots of terrain, 7 wrecked scenery cars, 2 big stompys, three saucers, 3 military trucks, 10 more human soldiers, 5 martian marines, 5 stealth martians.. maybe 10 total martian marines actually... probably 10 more characters on both sides, 10 bounty hunters/tiger corps, ... that may be it. Probably a few things I forgot. Too much

One niece is getting two batman themed shirts, the other is getting at least one Mass effect shirt.

Oh well, as long as I back smaller it's not as big of a deal. And after my big chunky DZ,MA, and eventual Bones2, DBX and so on... I think I'll have a big space-eating poignant reminder of why to only get really-really-cool-things-that-I-can't-live-without

I think your models always look good.

You may not be focusing on getting better but you are improving for sure! I think the painting you did in the samurai diorama is especially great!

I think the one thing that will keep Kickstarter from becoming a problem for me is the fact that you don't get the stuff right away. I'm not terribly patient...

Thanks

I'm not super patient either generally. I think I was super enthusiastic about deadzone which helped me wait. And now that I've got a big stash of rewards from various projects, I've always got something to do.

Another way to look at it too is that if you want the thing and are impatient, then you really *should* do the kickstarter as you may end up getting it months ahead of retail

But yeah avoid the trap if you can
