I remember from the Cain novels how the IMperial tech priest thought that the Tau used machine spirits in their tech and that they could make them rebell against the Tau. That is how stupid the Imperium is.

In theory machine Spirit = AI ( with AI being somewhat inferior to it )
And AI can be hacked so...

Lower ranking tech priests tend to follow Mechanicum dogma blindly, but higher ranking and more successful tech priests are a little more bending with dogma. What we call science and technology is just done more elaborately. It's the same thing, just the improving, recovering, and reverse-engineering is favored instead of innovation. "Appeasing" is more like finding out how it works and then replicating it using Imperial technology.

Well, what AMs probably call Three Holy Books of Rites , rest of us, nonelightened souls, call User Manual, Repair Manual and Programming Manual) So "appeasing MS" of Tau tech in AM-speak most probably means "find how it works, then reprogram it to disobey Tau w/o firewall/antivirus alerts and without said tech burning out unless specifically said to".

Before anyone asks, Mechanicus dogma and Imperial Law forbid the common use of alien technology, but the Mechanicus IS allowed for research purposes.

1hadhq wrote:xXSir MontyXx wrote:Maybe the Eldar havent left the Milky Way because they cant. What if the warp is like gravity?
Think of human and eldar souls as matter. The more of them they are the more "gravity" there is. So since there is nobody in the void of space between galaxies. Perhaps the warp cannot manifest in that area. Only where there are sentient beings.
If we subscribe to the fluff where Eldar were reborn ( pre war in heaven, in a calm empyrean ) and just had a "timeout" in the sea of souls, wouldn't any Galaxy with sentient beiings provide such a "sea"? The rsik of it would be to die in transit and get lost forever without a chance to "respawn"...
Using your idea:
Space vessels have to overcome gravity and your idea would only make sense if eldar souls would have so much "mass" , they cannot overcome this theoretic "gravitational effect" you suppose here. Souls would been drawn to densly populated parts of the mirroring realspace and could turn into a "black hole " maybe too? Blackest of souls forming holes, later known as chaos "gods"....they are always hungry....
OtoH orks been reported as found outside... Soullless fungi....
But I doubt it. More likely theory:
- in a high fantasy setting, elfs can leave to their "albion, elysian fields, etc"... its a world of greys.
- in 40k, there is no escape from the grimdark. They are stuck in, like everyone else.... its darkness eternal, its denizens caught in eternal war.
PS: Because the pansy elfs contain souls in a matrix, a craftworld would take the souls of them with it in transit. Seems they no longer use the "sea of souls" at all if they can prevent it. Thus elfs should be able to leave. Maybe the shame of their contribution to chaos keeps them in?
Trying to cover what they did....
No, i did not explain it well. What I wrote was simply an illustration. Not what it actually is. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
But yes I could definitely see the Eldar being ashamed of what they did. That being the reason they remain.

Well, IG have been known to sling their guns over their shoulders and pick up that nice Shuriken Catapult that Guardian just dropped, but as long as the Commisar doesn't see it, he's fine.
Basically, don't get caught with a Burst Rifle (Except if you're an inquisitor, because they are outside the law) and you'll be fine.

The Mechanicus CAN study alien tech. It's also them who decides whether alien tech is heretical or nor; the Callidus are sanctioned to use C'tan Phase Knives after all. I'm sure other examples of alien tech have been studied and sanctioned for use, or reverse-engineered and then replicated.

I realise they can study it, they have a whole division for it.
Usually they are considered impure vessals for the machine spirit and the mostly heretical part comes from considering the xeno tech as superior. Chaos machines are definitely heretical and their machine spirits are corrupted beyond saving.
What is seen as heresy by the Adeptus Mechanicus is not always seen as heretical by the Inquisition as the two have entirely different religions.
Another in your point would be the digital weapons of the Jokareo; xeno built and IoM used (commonly by the same type of assassin) so there does seem to be some leniency.

Most likely, those xeno being tech used have been completely studied (sanctified) and as such are 'holy' enough for controlled use. Chaos machines are heretical because 1 - they're used by traitors and renegades, 2 - more often than not the Machine Spirit has been replaced by a daemon.
