They already have the Nicassar.
All they're missing is complete warp drives and stronger gellar fields.
If they could spread, they would grow much, much faster. I am willing to bet less than 1% of habitable planets are owned by a faction in 40k.

At this point, there is quite little about them, and we do not know their capabilities. It is likely you are correct, but I was responding to the fact that someone said the tau have no psykers in their empire.

Land Speeders are STC-tech. But STC tech is very human in design, so I doubt if the Tau had found one. And even in the Dark Age, plasma tech was very unstable. And the Tau plasma tech is stable and different. Human plasma tech works using miniature plasma generators. Tau plasma tech works by de-stabilizing particles as they progress out of a pulse weapons barrel. And compared to Imperial/Eldar skimmers, Tau are quite quiet.
AHHHH i can't belive i forgot about the land speeder! Yeah that does support that theory alot now. But i suppose they're alot of good solid theories out there. Hopefully we'll find out soon enough!

Didn't the imperium explore the whole Tau sector in the 35th mellinia? Wouldn't they have found an stc when they found the Tau?

Maybe if it was on the surface. The tau DID find an ancient weapon of enormous awesomeness (dawn blade) on an abandoned world and seem to just find technology all the time, so it is plausible.

If the Tau start building their own versions of the Men on Iron, I'm seeing visions of the same AI rebellion that occurred at the height of the Dark Age of Technology. And while I agree that Navigators, not psykers, pilot Human vessels through the warp, they're an off-shoot of psychic research conducted during the Dark Age. The Tau CANNOT understand the warp. It doesn't matter whether or not they get advanced technology, they simply cannot know it in the same way emergent/emerging psychic races like Eldar and Humans know its powers and dangers. The results would be catastrophic, with the Tau experiments on non-Tau psykers opening portals and unleashing untold horrors on the galaxy.

As if. The Emperor outlawed AIs not because He thought it was tech-heresy, but because He knew regardless, Human or Xenos, AIs would ultimately turn on their creations. That's why Machine Spirits lack true self-awareness capabilities.

Kinda like Tiberium Sun. The AI says, 'I am the embodiment of the Greater Good.', then has all Tau AIs (drones, etc.) start attacking the Tau. It's not just the Imperium who's gonna get involved, even the Eldar probably, foreseeing disaster should rogue AI rampage through the galaxy.

And AI doesn't automatically mean they will attack their masters. Have any of you read the Polity novels by Neal Asher?
No, but that would be something new - an AI living in peace among organics.

Why would Tau need STC to terraform?
1. That's because sci-fi readers love disaster.
2. We have no evidence of tau terraforming tech, though I think it was hinted at somewhere (forget where) that they were slowly making a world they had taken dryer, but certainly not the full planetary morphing the IoM used to be capable of.

Well we can't say for sure that they don't have one, being that we have 1.3% knowledge about their technology, culture and customs.
We don't know 100% of Imperium's technological marvels and customs. And we know that 90% of fluff is written about them.

Random Tau fan write: "Tau can totally crush IoM in one week."
I say: "No it cannot, Imperium is to big for them."
And he call me a troll.
I will admit, he's being kinda troll-y, but I've NEVER heard a Tau fan say that Tau could ever defeat the IoM
OT - I can see Tau giving up a STC if the IoM threaten them with a large enough force. But, in my opinion, I believe that Tau tech has surpassed most of the IoM's tech...so I'm not too sure how much a STC would actually help...

You missed the best part, the one where he claimed that Tau Fire cast outnumber the Imperial Guard, in general.

I to believe that Tau would negotiate, maybe wanting to open a few new trade routes or demand a giveaway of few planets - respectfully of course.
