Afternoon y'all!
Yes that's right I have returned now my lazy ass has got itself into gear. And with something new because apparently I didn't have enough to finish.........
So my little bro left for uni the other day (very proud ) and I wanted to paint some of his dwarves, what he is probably going to find out via this message here is that he is going to have a 500pt dwarven list to come home to by christmas! (sometimes us older siblings are quite nice ). I figured he wouldn't have time to do it with all his work and stuff going on so hey, why not!
Anyways enough yapping, some pics.
So here's the first batch that I have done. I went for rugged yellow, mainly cos it ain't too bright and it looks somewhat manly, almost mustard like Also for the first time ever I am using a white undercoat! Now I understand why people use it, it is a lot easier to see what your actually painting and you get the true representation of the colour imho. They were a lot of fun to paint and only took a few hours (only............. ). My noobishness does show a little with this basecoat though as I have noticed a couple of bits of white peeping through which is a tad annoying but I will rectify it later!
Oh and the tower shield for the VW team is coming soon!
And here is what I am doing now! Durin, a Khazad Guard and some warriors. He needs a badass hero and with his Dain wandering the shadows of his old bedroom somewhere this fellow will step up to the plate! To be fair he is better than Dain!
Also my bro only has a single intact Khazad Guard so I thought I would whip him up and besides they are just about the best sculpts and designs in the game! (Behind spectres and high elf spearmen)
When the second lot is done, he's up to 274pts so well on the way! Got some plastic dwarves to get done and also Durin's faithful bodyguard, Mardin!
IT'S GOOD TO BE BACK!

You're alive!!!!
Nice dwarves, I really like the yellow on them. They're such awesome models.
Of course, I hate them in game, as they never seem to die...

Yup I sure am
Thanks dude! My bro is chuffed with them so it's a good start the next lot has been started and I'm half way through them. Also the tower shield for the vault warden team has been completed. I will hopefully have pics up tomorrow!
In other news, I lost the battle against shiny syndrome and picked up a box galadhrim......oops....... I just couldn't help it, no other army had the same impact on me as the elves at helms deep, the organised, calm, martial prowess as they despatch endless uruk-hai with only a few hundred! Once again I have tried something a little different when painting them and this time they are being painted on the sprue. I have the blue and red on then completed and have started the browns.
Pics for both the elves and the dwarves will be up tomorrow hopefully.
The other really cool thing is there is a warband tournament next weekend at my GW so I will be taking the galadhrim along with legolas to see what I can do! The result will be posted next weekend

Evening folks!
So here is where I am up to on the next lot of dwarves:
Now I am enjoying doing these but I'm not doing so great with the white undercoat, why does it like to tease me so between the gaps in mini's!!
These dudes are about half done with only some highlights, a wash or two and the boots in general to go, I would like them done by the end of the week.
And then there's:
Sorry about the crap quality but pics or it didn't happen eh?
Not that you can tell from the photo but the red and blue is done totally, I have laid a base of brown and have now begun to lay down a base of gold as you can tell. I NEED them done by Friday so will see some definite progress on these fellas.
Also I am having them themed on Helms Deep so I am going to try and make some special bases for them!
And I will have legolas and a banner bearer on the way in the next few days to accompany them into battle next weekend!
That's all for now but will have more to show and tell over the next few days!

Interesting. I've never done painting on sprue, but I suppose it works fairly well for LotR models.
Interesting color scheme as well.
Pity GW halved the number of models in a box (better for Warbands, not for the wallet).

I feel it does intially but when you get to stage where most of the big colours down I assembled them to see where I was at
Your not wrong, £15 for twelve is pretty criminal really, I outright refuse to buy any other warriors firsthand from GW but galadhrim are real beauties!
Sharazad wrote:You're such a nice brother and such a good painter glad to see you back on the grid mate ^^
Haha thanks Shara! Very kind words! I have to balance being nasty to him so what better way than by doing something I enjoy
It's good to be back, now I've got going I'm loving it again!
Ok so tonight I will slap up some pics of the galadhrim that are nearly there, more progress on the dwarves and maybe a prototype scenic base for the galadhrim in my first attempt at sculpting!
Till then, take it easy

How do you remove the mold lines without taking a model from a sprue? O.o

I didn't have to do a lot to be honest, the sprues are quite roomy and the lotr models are generally very good when it comes to mold lines
Ok so pictures time!
Pretty happy with these dudes but there is obviously some cleaning up to do! I will get onto 'perfecting' after the weekend and the mini-competition, this will include general touch-ups (no..... lol), a few better highlights, perhaps a wash and if I really want to torment myself, some eyes particularly on the dude without the helmet.
I haven't had chance to do anything else tonight. I figure I can have the other six and the banner done by Wednesday and Legolas will painted on the morning of the competition. The special bases will be done around Wednesday-ish too.
And then there's the dwarves which I will devote thursday evening to me thinks
And somewhere else in between I have to paint a limited edition chaplain to the highest standard for 40k what a schedule..........
As always C&C is always read appreciated and replied to!

I like them! My only thought would be purple instead of red, but the red works very well too!
Awesome poses on the models as well. Galadhrim and Wood Elves put the Last Alliance models to shame.

Damn ( there so many cool models and so little time... I'd love to play some fantasy warfare but just can't figure what to choose... This models must be of really great quality if there are no mold lines. Something to consider

Cheers man! Yeh that would be a cool option. I only went with red because I did a few of the metal ones ages ago so I stuck with it.
They sure do I still love them too though!

There a couple here and there but a gak load less than 40k or warhams. I think there a couple of quality issues with a couple of kits but other than that they are generally fantastic imho!

I'm inspired by the idea of an all ghost list.
I think I'm going to tinker with one, maybe with a wraith in it.
It's one that would be a lot of fun, no doubt about it, the manipulation of your enemies army is as good as it gets and even when your opponent has priority you can find yourself still in control of the game Do it sir! Or I will guinea pig it and see how it does and relay feedback ?
Commander Cain wrote:Liking what I see! I own most of those models and know what a pain some of them can be to paint what with everything blending into each other. The purple paint scheme looks great, I love the banner especially.
I was sooo close to starting an Isengard army myself, what with all those pikes and whatnot. Unfortunately, the price increase in the models made my mind up and I went back into the grimdark future to paint some moah mareenz!
Keep up the good work!
Cain
Cheers buddy!
I should have the banner done soon so hopefully you will like it even more finished
If that's the case I have an small ton of Uruks that I don't use and I'm not really a fan of anymore, I can see what I got and send you a pm? I don't want a lot for them
I'll try!
Dr. What wrote:Brother-Captain Scotti wrote:
A brittle army to be sure and no doubt I will be outnumbered but the combination of abilities is brutal. There are 20 models that can control another model if they fail courage, there are two that paralyze anyone on a 4+ (unlimited uses in the game, once per turn though)
I'm impressed by this list and tinkering with a similar one, but don't barrow wights have a limited amount of will? or did they change that in the new sourcebooks?
No, you're correct it has 5 will, didn't see the will stat but still it's pretty good and I will still take them for 50pts a piece. That should be enough though to either:
1)hamper a shield wall
2)hamper a very strong combat hero
3)tie up a powerful wizard
All three represent a real problem for the enemy, a pair mean 10 paralyze attempts. Not to be trifled with.
So I have just undercoated the remaining spectres and I am hoping to have all the basecoats of purple, skin (well ghostly skin ) metal and the weeds done. And the I would like to get the purple highlights done, the metal washes and the skin done today. Finished the eyes and the weeds would be a bonus, let's see if I can work fast enough. Also nearly done my barrow wights so they'll be up if a few hours with them.
More later today!
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Ok folks as promised here is some of the current painting,
Barrow Wight No.1. I like this model more than the other to be honest, the pose is nicer. Went for the same look as the spectre's but gave them brighter eyes to hopefully show that they possess more than just undeath, they have a active mind still if you will.
Barrow Wight No.2. Not a bad model I suppose but still I like the other better other thing about my BW's they have grey hair not the white you expect from a really old being as I thought grey looked more 'deathly' on them and white may be too bright for the army, actually that sounds stupid given I have nearly lilac orcs more the wrong kind of bright perhaps?
One thing I can tell you is batch painting spectres ain't a lot of fun but I wanted to get some really good updates for you guys so I am making myself do it Done the base purple, skin and metal. Next will be gold on the elven spectres, tarnish all the metals, next skin highlight and then the undercoat for the trailing weeds
I will try and have another two picture updates today but I can't promise anything due to time constraints, I'll try my best
Also later will be some tactica for the spirits in my army and also a small discussion on army choice for an upcoming event .
So guys, please C&C away and I'll be back shortly
Those eyes...So evil..How did you paint them?
