It's a spell that does more damage the heavier your armor is. But only against people wearing metal armor obviously. So great against knights or Uruks. Not so good against ents, rangers or things like that.

Yeh they will be very shiny! No stealth for them! Clank clank
Noobie - damn that would be horrid! My army would just...... Well........ Cease to exist but dwarves would be far worse off but I could stand to see Dain killed by his own armour, I could very stand it

So here it is folks, the next battle report:
MINAS TIRITH VS ISENGARD 500PTS
We rolled up for the scenario and got Recon. For those that don't know that conditions, they are:
For every folk you get across the board and off your opponents board edge you get a KP
You wound the leader of the enemy, you get a KP, you kill them you get 3KP's
Break the enemy, you get a KP. End the game with enemy broken and yourself unbroken you get 3KP's
Here's the forces:
Isengard:
Warband 1: Saruman, Grima(not pictured), 3 Uruk-Hai Crossbowmen, 6 Warg riders (2 spear and shield, 4 bow)
Warband 2: Uruk Hai Captain, Standard Bearer, 6 Shield Uruks, 4 Pikes (don't remember exactly, the picture isn't entirely accurate as I helped him mod the warband above to take advantage of the pikes.
Minas Tirith:
Warband 1: Boromir, 6 GotFC, 4 spears, standard bearer.
Warband 2: King of men, 2 shields, 1 spear, 7 bows
Turn 1
Priority - Me
Neither of my warbands appeared! Great! Robbies Uruk Phalanx on my left behind the ruin and hill but Saruman's lot didn't arrive.
Turn 2
Priority - Me
Boromirs band arrive in the centre and move up while the King's are still making their way towards the field of battle, note Grima accompanies them keeping a close eye on Boromir. Robbies Wargs explode onto the board and run hell for leather up the middle. Saruman moves onto the board on the right with the few crossbows. The Uruk Hai on the left move up through the ruins.
Using the sphere of orthanc saruman attempts to use Sorcerous Blast on Boromirs unit and fails.
Turn 3
Priority - Robbie
Everything of his literally moves forward, his wargs still playing agressive as he launches them towards Boromirs block. Sorcery at play again as Saruman Transfixes Boromir but fails to use Sorcerous Blast again. My second warband arrives! The King and the shields and spear move on left of Boromir while the bows move at half pace on their right and notch their arrows.
Shooting sees first blood as the very first shot kills a warg rider but the warg sticks around.
End of Turn 3
Turn 4
Priority - Me
Boromirs block moves up unperturbed by the warg riders with Grima skulking, the King and co on the left match the pace, while the bowmen on the right move at half pace. The warg with no rider passes it's courage and moves up with the remaining spear rider. The other wargs hang back to fire their bows. The phalanx on the left move up as usual, now half way across the board. The crossbows attempt to climb the ruins on the right but one fails and falls over. Saruman sticks with the crossbows but fails to unleash sorcerous blast again.
In shooting I kill 2 Bow warg riders, one mount stays while the other flees. Robbie doesn't fair as well and his little shooting proves ineffective.
End of Turn 4
Turn 5
One of the wargs without a rider flees but the rest stay. The failed crossbowmen from last time gets onto the ruin. In a suicidal charge the warg riders and wargs without rider launch launch themselves into the GotFC! Again the Uruk Phalanx on the left moves up the board but slightly towards the centre too. All GotFC and spear engage the wargs while the King and his handful of combat troops help against the left most warg rider. My banner moves central to help all the combats. Archers move half again.
Shooting sees a crossbow Uruk snipe the centre archer from my line. In return I target every bow at Saruman, I wound but Robbie uses a Fate and then a Might to negate it.
Before combat please note - Robbie's dice = 10000000000000 degrees centigrade
The warg with no rider beats the GotFC against it and kills it! The warg rider along from that beats the next GotFC and kills him too! Then warg rider three, to the left of the previous beats both GotFC and kills them both!! I do however manage to win the King's combat and he slays the rider and his warg on the left.
End of Turn 5
Turn 6
Priority - me
My forces have been shaken to the core by the turn of very unlikely events bearing in mind all the above combats had spear support, banner rerolls and +1 fight from Boromirs Banner. I charge all wargs to deny any bonuses to them. My archers move up again 3 inches. Saruman learnes not expose himself and hides behind the nearest ruin on the right. The phalanx on the left head in the direction of the combats.
Shooting wise I flop while robbie pincushions another archer.
I kill the left most warg with the King, the next rider along also falls and his warg flees. The warg fighting Boromir however wins combat and wound Boromir. I roll for fate and get a 2, the problem is I would need to use 4 might to save the wound due Grima so I have to take it, no way would I spend 4 might on 1W.
End of turn 6
So, so far I have lost over half my elite troops, Boromir is wounded meaning I am down 1-0 and Robbie is further from breaking than me with a full phalanx moving in on my left. It's looking pretty damn bleak. Can I swing the tide of battle? Part 2 up later!

Haha well you'll find out now!
ISENGARD VS MINAS TIRITH PART 2
Turn 7
Priority - Robbie
His phalanx reforms to try and make it's way through the ruins on the left while the remaining warg charges the spearman on the far right. Sarumans magic offensive continues but fails to do anything. I swamp the warg and reform the remains of my spear block to meet the Uruk-hai offensive. The bows run toward the ruin Saruman is hiding behind to try and catch him off guard.
The crossbows claim another archer in shooting.
The warg and rider are swiftly cut down in combat, the gondorians eager to face the coming threat on the left.
End of turn 7
Turn 8 (There will not be any pictures of the crossbows/archer side on the right from now on as they are dull at best)
Priority - Me
Form my block back on the left hand side while my bowmen prepare to pounce behind the ruins on the right. Robbie funnels his phalanx down the small path between the ruin and the hill while moving some over the hill, a shield and pike now in combat with my King. Sorcerous blast once again fails to do anything.
Robbies crossbows have similar luck to sarumans and hit the tree in front of them.
The King wins combat and shreds the Uruk with shield in short order. GotFC shields against the Uruk captain and wins the combat.
End of turn 8
Turn 9
Priority - Me
I hurl, shieldsmen, Boromir, the King and GotFC all into various combats over the ruin and hill. Saruman runs from the pursuing bowmen and finally gets of sorcerous blast killing a bowmen. Pikes on the left move in to support combats.
In shooting robbie takes advantage of the archers scattered from behind the ruin and make sure one doesn't get back up.
Boromir cuts down one uruk while the King uses a banner reroll to defeat a trapped Uruk and then a might to slay the evil being.
End of turn 9
Turn 10
Priority - Me (Again!)
Boromir charge headlong into the remaining Uruk-Hai, they are nearly broken and what to get the job done, spear support there positions. GotFC charge the banner over a barricade supported by spears too. My last two bowmen pick themselves up and hide behind the ruin on the right, if I lose them I break. Saruman fails to cast SB once again so runs further from my archers and behind the far right ruin. He has pikes move in against the King and Boromir fights, while his Captain helps the banner out in the fight over the barricade.
Shooting and another bit of hot dice from robbie, three crossbows hit, three crossbows miss the tree and two of them wound the banner bearer!
The Uruk standard and captain beat back the GotFC and co but they live to tell the tale. Boromir and the King are now in their stride and cut down their foes with ease resulting in Robbie's forces breaking!
End of turn 10
Turn 11 - Robbie Broken
Priority - Robbie
He rolls for his captain so his remaining Uruks will stand fast and...........he flees, not a good turn of luck for Robbie! 2 shield Uruks and a pike follow! Saruman however stays and so do the crossbows. Saruman unleashes sorcerous blast on Boromir who resists and then casts transfix on Boromir only for that to be resisted too! Compel fails to cast. He desperately throws a shield Uruk at Boromir and backs it with a pike while dropping back his banner. A GotFC backs Boromir, while the King goes over the hill and into the Uruk standard. The pike supporting the shield fighting Boromir is distracted by a GotFC trying to come over the barricade again.
Crossbows prove ineffective.
Boromir and the King once again win their fights resulting in a dead shield and standard. The GotFC wins but fails to wound.
End of turn 11
Oh and this is the rolling for the GotFC and spears Vs Uruk standard, look at the quality......
The red is his re-roll for the banner, the yellow his original and the white mine
Robbie has hit below 25% in just one turn and so the game ends!
RESULT
Robbie - Wounded Boromir - 1KP
Total 1KP
Me - Broke the enemy and yet remained unbroken - 3KP
Total - 3KP
VICTORY MINAS TIRITH!!
Here's what Robbie had to say:
Very surprised at how well the warg riders performed and will invest in more in the future. Boromir in the end proved to great for the Uruk-Hai in the end even with Grima hampering his might, if not for Boromir the chance of victory would have been much greater. If I were to do anything different, I would have done some damage with the Wargs and then ran straight off the board edge for some easy KP's. I think perhaps that Scotti (Me) could have used his bows more aggresively and maybe risked going for Saruman or even the board edge.
Well, I think Robbie is about bang on to be honest, if he had done that with the wargs I would have struggled to make up the points to even draw! I kept my bows back though as if they both went I too would have broken and in the end lost! If I were to fight again I would play a bit more agressively with my big spear block and Boromir and move right up as to not give any easy opening for cavalry to make a dash for it. If I were Robbies however I wouldn't funnel the Uruk's down that path, you may have pikes but Boromir will still stand tall and proud! In the end it gave me the advantage and the one on one's with Boromir or the King proved too much for the Uruks.
All in all a great game that brought many laughs, cheers and smiles to the room, I hope you all enjoyed the read as much as we did playing!

Knew you would bring it back, Boromir is just to good!
I was really surprised noone managed to run anyone off the board!? Did you both get too caught up in the fighting
Robbie was pretty unlucky with saruman! Although, if it was me, I would have been transfixing the hell out of Boromir and then I would have tried to swarm him rather than attempted S blast

He was very good in the end as usual despite his sloppy start that put me behind. He is forgiven
I know, it hit turn 9 and I was thinking 'we have rolled recon and we need to get off the other side but we have just laid into each other and totally defied the point of what we are meant to be doing, just like the good old times in A-level maths then........'
Yeh Saruman was not good this game, he just couldn't roll with him! And when he did Boromir was having non of it. Desipte the spells being ineffective though it meant he could take Grima and I really wasn't wiling to spend might with the little bugger around hence trying to pincushion saruman earlier on.
Noobie2k7 wrote:what i would have done i just swamped the main bulk of the force with my guys for distraction and just ran the warg riders off the board
Yeh that would have been the best ploy in the end I think for him while using Saruman to pin Boromir but alas it was not to be.
The unsung hero I think in the battle was the King of Men, he never lost a fight and always killed his opponent earning himself 30pt profit!

I've never done paintball, always wanted to do it though, I enjoy army type games (obviously muahahaha).
Yeah it is educational, because I've not had a game before and it gives strategical insight, especially because your

is very useful. Don't know how applicable it's going to be but I guess I find out when I finish my guys ^^

It's definitely worth doing, it's so much fun! True you can get hurt but no pain, no game right? I'm even in a team with my mates now and looking at a few competitions
Wow, never looked at it from that perspective and thanks that's nice of you I hope some of it serves you well in the future When I have complete/bigger armies I will put in more tactica and the like for people to look at.

I suggest you get off you bum and start playing again mate, you could meet another team for sure, we befriended an american lad on our 2nd visit of the year and invited him into our team by the end of the day.
Aye I would like that a lot. Just need my trackers so looking at next week, however that does give me time to paint which is always good
A small update for ye all folks, I found a Grishnahk that I bough off eBay for the princely sum of £1 And I twigged............. Captain with Bow! So I set about trying to find a plastic orc with bow lopped of the hand and cut it away until only the bow remained. Attach with super glue and you get what you see below:
A simple yet effective conversion I think because he has the hunting furs and the machete knife so will fit right in with the trackers. So hurray for Grishnahk, the usually overlooked trollop, he finally has a promotion

His sword fits comfortably either way, it's almost as if they cast him so you could have both? No it's GW, fluke then Got him and my other captain primed in the hope that everything else in my 250 will be painted and only the trackers to go
Oh and also may have another report coming up, after his first battle in a few years Robbie has the bug and wants another game, could play a small siege, who knows?

Sounds like a good idea to me. Be cool to see a 3 player battle. With good in the fort or castle in the middle. having the 2 evil forces fighting over something in the castle. Like having to capture something and take it off the board edge.

Ooooooooooooo two evil armies sieging the same castle yet they are still opposing, that would be quite cool. I already have ratios to what works force size wise with the attacker and defender
Well another friend of mine might be taking the lotr plunge so I could lend him goblins and my other buddy, robbie, using his uruks.

Just one thing about saruman, he can only do a single power in each turn, I think you played it with him doing more than once in turn11 against Boromir.
But hey its all learning.
Welcome to Dakka , there is a group of us trying to get it going here and so far we are doing pretty well. Thanks for the support If you like yourself some LOTR you may wanna check these blogs too:

Both are quite excellent

Well thanks for the heads up guys, I thought/remembered that wizards could use more than one spell as long as it wasn't the same one?
I played a seige yesterday like I said I would, there is no report but I have pics and I'm sure you'll agree a couple look like utter carnage They will posted later.
Secondly, after seeing Sharazads latest and brilliant efforts to make her rohan prettiful (and they are!) I have gone to lengths to paint my characters properly rather than speed painting them, as I feel I should really take more care with them and have seen the light of patience, thanks Sharazad your not the only one learning! I have been painting up my bow captain/Grishnahk and I'm pretty chuffed with him so far, some little details to go and finish the base and I will post pics, maybe tonight too

I thought the same thing a couple of weeks ago to quote the rulebook..... 'if a hero has magical powers he (should say she as well, just saying) can attempt to use one power once in any turn' tbh the wording for that is terrible. The first time I read it I wasn't sure whether it meant i could only use each power once in the game. Anyway, I'm pretty sure It only meanss one power per turn Looking forward to the pictures And her painting is pretty incredible; I'm embrassed to post my models up when I see hers Oh, and thanks for the mention/feature
