Hey Scot, like your Boromir, I always found him an interesting character and am a big fan of Minas Tirith.
You just keep on coming with those pics

S.

That would be great, maybe when everyone is happy with their army, a day out to WW?

Thanks for the kind words Sharazad, any progress to be shared on your Blog?

noob question, what did you mean with WW?
yeah if we set up a date so everyone can prepare something and then the battle may begin ^^

no my blog has to wait since I'm still away. But there is progress made so when I'm back home
there will be pictures
And thanks for your support, btw your soldier guys look wicked, I like what you've done with the metal.

S.

Not a noobish question at all, I thought dakka might have it as an abbreviation but I was wrong, WW is Warhammer World. It is central to the country so all could partake hopefully

Awesome I look forward to seeing the Rohirrim and I hope your enjoying your time away, if I read correctly on dakka discussions earlier I hope all is well with your Mum in the netherlands?

Not a problem, we gotta stick together and get the LOTR hobby going on here Thanks for the kind words

Yeah the time away in the Netherlands yes ^^ was cool, seeing family and all thanks for saying that about mum.
Yay for Warhammer World, I already thought you meant that. Yeah going to Nottingham from London isn't all to bad, I've done it before ^^
I hope more people are interested.

Congratulations deathstreak2000 with the Blog, I'ts awesome you made one!

S.

Seems we have quite the pyramid

Hey it's cool, my mum was seriously ill too and was pretty much pronounced dead, I'm lucky she is alive and well!! Very lucky!! And glad your having a good time

Cheers Sharazad and Brother-Captain Scotti! Thanks for all the support already

A lotr day at WW would be AWESOME! Unlike you too though I live quite far away (Margate in Kent, literally the southeastern tip of England) but when at uni I'm based at Coventry which is extremely close by

Thanks for the post about my blog as well I'll return the favour Although I think most lotr supports are out of the woodwork already

oh and congrats on reaching the 4th page of your blog

Loving the thread Scotti, everyone doing their own lotr blogs makes me want to do one for my corsairs, but it's my last year of high school, so I'm probably gonna have a hard time finding time :( Still at the very least I can change my location on my profile

Staying on target.....

And yee shall receive deathstreak

BATTLE REPORT NO.2: ANGMAR VS HARAD

So another fight with my Angmar and after last time I was going orc heavy. My brother after giving me a little money and then borrowing it and then some more had got 20 odd Haradrim and the command box but even with little to choose from he made a pretty solid list, here are the forces:

Angmar Warband 1:

Angmar Warband 2:

Haradrim Warband 1:

(Didn't realize how bad a shot that is sorry!)

Haradrim Warband 2:

(This ain't much better.....)

Scenario and Deployment
We rolled for which mission we would play and got 'To The Death!' (a casual roll of 1 from me ) We then rolled to see who would set up first, Sam won and let me. My first warband rolled a 3 so I had to set it up at least 12" to the centre of the board, not a problem for me and made a block with my captain warband. Sam also had to deploy his first warband 12" to the centre and played defensive, using the ruins on the left to give a couple of archers an advantage. I than rolled and got a 6 but set up aggresively anyway on the other flank of the central ruin and made a second block. Sam set up his last Warband in two sections, because he rolled high he set up half his band, the bows, against the board edge and the other half in support of the first warband.

So in 'To the death' you earn KP's by:
Wounding the leader (1) OR killing them (3)
KIlling a banner (1) AND having one left on the field (2)
Breaking the enemy force (3) and having not broken yourself (5)

No idea why it's at this angle but here is what deployment looked like.

Let the game begin!!

TURN 1

I won priority. Very happy with the deployment I got, the closer the better, lots of orcs and no range. Sam was a little uncomfortable with some of his bows being so close.

I literally shunted both of my blocks forward and convened them into one. It was quite evident Sam was gonna leave half his archers aside so I already had the numbers advantage. I possessed three of his bowmen by the left ruin and made a conga that his chieftan with bow would have to shoot through

You like?

Finished off by casting Fury and succeeded. Sam moves up his spearmen on the left of the left ruin and on the right ready to support the front line of bows.

I have no shooting and Sam may as well have none either, he didn't do anything the poor fella!

End of Turn 1

TURN 2

Sam's priority.

He moves back his archers that I conga'd and makes a lethal row of bows then spears backed with a banner on the right of the ruin. The spears on the left move up a little too.

I however have other ideas. I pull the bowmen all the way back out with possessions and launch into combat, a spectre, a spear and a shield orc to each one! ( I had been very lucky with 6 of 6 possessions so far!) I move up the right of the line and a move banner across slightly to support the combats I had just made.

Sam once again fails to make some effective shooting, the dice gods have deserted him!

In combat I make short work of his 3 unlucky bowmen and dispatch them in short order.

End of turn 2

TURN 3

My priority

I decided it was a make or break moment, should I hang back or keep momentum, I decided the latter and my horde lurched forward with savage glee. The spectres possessed his banner and made him run directly away from the combats I was about to make along with a spearmen who was ready support his cheiftan. I engaged all I could on the left of the ruin and left some guys ready to lap round and begin to trap people. I made a small left flank guard to hold off the 5 spears he had right of the ruins. I positioned the shaman central and my banner too, my captain joined them and bides his time. As expected Sam charges all he can on the left.

In the shoot phase Sam finally gets a kill! A 2 handed orc falls with a black shaft sticking out his temple.

I shield against his captain and win the fight pushing him back. The spectre next to this fight rips the soul from his combatant, a spearman.

End of turn 3

TURN 4

Sam wins priority - I call a herioc move but sam calls to counter and win's the roll off as I roll two ones even after getting a second chance from a draw the first time! The Shaman now has no might.

Tactical note - I really wanted that priority, as you can see above I have driven a wedge into my brother line and really shaken him, my important people are protected from bowfire and the right flank I outnumber him greatly. Hopefully it won't damage my charge. Also I have used my shaman's one might, why you might ask? This battle will be a game of numbers, Sam has a few more guys than me but I have a little more quality in my army (spectres), when it comes down to it, my Captain will need all the killing power he can get.

His Taskmaster fails his terror and can't charge the spectre ahead. Sam is forced to charge my spectre with his cheiftan lest he wants me to control the centre of the line. A spearman on the left also fails a terror test but the rest of his other haradrim except bowmen charge. My captain backs the spectre on the left and a shield and spear help a spectre with the chieftan in the centre. All other orcs except my banner and shaman charge. There's a 4v2 on the right that looks bad for Sam, it features 2 hander as well..... Sam finishes up by moving three of his bows along the back right as to get rear shots.

Shooting is not Sam's thing, nothing again

Combat and Sam's Cheiftan is forced to use the last of his might to beat the spectre and orcs back. He also slays the shield with orc. I proceed to kill both a spearmen in the middle of the lines and on the left hand side but my captain and spectre roll poorly and a single haradrim warrior beats them back and casts the spectre back to whence it came!

End of turn 4 - The haradrim who bested the captain and spectre is nearest the white dice, we call him 'headbuttman' as when he lined him up for combat he looked as though he'd just planted a glasweigen kiss on the spectres chest reality is he has snapped ankles the poor guy

TURN 5

Priority Me - Sam calls another heroic move and yet again fails to get the taskmasters effect so loses it all together.

Tactical note - I reckon this is a great call by my brother, he has seen he's slowed me and is determined to carry on doing so, with similar losses and a little more luck like he had last combat phase he could swing it his way especially with him choosing who fights who. I just need to keep grinding away and pushing for weak spots, I don't mind giving him priority for now as I still have numbers advantage with his bowmen staying well clear.

Sam makes all his terror tests on the centre and right and picks the fights he wants. On the left however he fails a terror test and leaves a spectre open. I charge everything I can, my captain charges 'headbuttman' and I even have a 5 on 1 on the left! Banner and Shaman central as usual.

What I didn't count on was his bows moving down my right as, though it took all of them, brought down my banner due to it's exposure at the back, a KP to Sam!

Captain kills 'headbuttman', Sam kills a second spectre with the spears on the left. Despite some awful rolling I win the 5 on 1 fight and kill the unlucky spearman. He kills the last spectre with his cheiftan but my shield orcs see off the Taskmaster.

Turn 6

Priority to me - Sam heriocs moves AGAIN! And manages to keep his might with the Taskmasters help.

He sees the gap and charges the shaman with the cheiftan and throws all his other spears and the TM into combats to protect his banner. I counter with 3 spears supporting the shaman, captain charges on the left and my right flank begins to swing round.

Shooting is well, not good poor Sam......nada.......

Captain wins his ordeal on the left and uses a might to kill both his opponents. Sam beats the Shaman and spears with his Chieftan but falls to make a mortal blow. Lone spearmen duel and Sam's comes out on top, killing his foe. I trap and cut down another spearman. And once again shielding proves it's worth as I beat back the Taskmaster once more.

End of turn 6

Turn 7

Priority to Sam

Sam has done well despite not wanting to commit his bows to combat, he has however only got 1 death left before he reaches his break point compared to my 3, I think I may have this one now......

Sam charges the shaman with his chieftan again and backs against the ruin with his banner with 2 spears and the Taskmaster for protection. My captain and as many shields and spear as I can get in join in the fight against the chieftan. I charge the spears but leave the Taskmaster well alone making him useless for the turn.

2 spearmen die from bow fire, it's a miracle!

I butcher his chieftan in combat awarding me 3 KP's. I win both other combats but shield, wanting to see the result of the last death take hold on my brothers forces.

End of turn 7

TURN 8 Sam broken.

Sam wins priority.

3 of his bowmen along the back desert him but all those within the taskmasters gaze stand fast. Sam continues a defense around the banner. I launch as many assaults as I can, I want to get this finished with me being only 1 death from my break point.

Shooting is the usual. Nothing.

TM uses the last of his might (which he does not retain) to win his fight and fails to wound! I shield in another combat, lose and the orc is killed making me broken! So much for being safe . I use my last might with my captain to kill a spearman, I want to end this soon!

End of turn 8

Turn 9

Priority me

I stand fast and my orcs prove unusually brave. I entertain the TM with a single shield orc while I double team the banner bearer and charge the last spearman with my captain, 2 shield and 2 spear orc. 2 of Sam's bowmen flee the field of battle meaning he is below 25% now and therefore the game will end at the end of the turn.

Shooting.....can you guess?

Trapped spearman dies to the orc captain, I fail to shield against the Taskmaster but live and his banner keeps his own due to his own reroll but doesn't wound.

End of turn 9 and the game!

So who won, well here's what we got in KP's seen as they're the currency now:

Sam
- Killed my banner but his banner lived 2 KP's
- Broke himself but managed to break my force too 3 KP's

Me
- Not only wounded but killed his Leader - 3KP's
- Broke his forces but failed to remain unbroken - 3KP's

So that's 6 - 5 to me!!

ANGMAR VICTORY!!

I will write more thoughts on the battle tomorrow but I'm flagging like hell and work is fast approaching so sleep for now

Hope you guys enjoyed it!

Great report shame about your bros bows doing no good for him :( Did he stick with basic bowmen or upgrade them? I've found making them shoot 3+ is a massive help and makes a big difference. I'm my game my arches did a fair bit but i guess it is just luck of the dice.

Great report anyway. I hope to see him get his revenge soon

Very entertaining! Your brother were damn unlucky with his bowmen, although I bet your banner getting sniped hurt your combats though.

One thing I picked up on, and i don't mean to be a party pooper, is that your meant to deploy men in a warband no further than 6" away than their captain when they are deployed. Although this is the first battle you've had with the new missions so I'll let it slip

Reading it made me want to have another battle! Damn to my friends returning to Uni!!!!

EDIT: Oh, and I didn't read you (or I missed) using any of your shaman's powers? Did I just miss this or did you forget to write it down or did you just forget to use them

On that not how useful do you find the fury power? (The one that gives you a 6+ fate roll on every friendly model within 6")

I know I expected to be down a few orcs before I reached him, he rolled average and fair dice to hit I think, it was wounding even with poison he couldn't do. I mean yes he was shooting at a shield wall but he still rolled bad!

We haven't got the fallen realms yet as he couldn't afford it this month, he's getting it next month I think. That's an interesting improvement that would bring them on par with elves in my eyes, how many points does that cost?

Thanks I'm sure he will

It did a little I could have done with keeping him but I didn't have a meat shield for him. I realized as I hurled all my spearmen into combat, muppet!

Now you see, that I looked for all over the flipping source book? Where is it!? It does better than where's wally

I used fury on turn 1 and that was about it as if I played it correctly once I am defeated in combat I lose the power, I can cast it again but my shaman found himself pretty much in combat after I lost it the first time. My opinion on rage? A waste a 250 (didn't save one orc!), maybe ok at 500 and with the volume orcs I would have said a must at 700. Next time I play a small skirmish I will use my second captain.

Ok so some thoughts about the game.

I was happy with the way I played I think, I get my line until it came to crunchtime and played sensible combats while shielding those that I couldn't win and waited for those favourable combats to resolve and receive back up. I used the spectres exactly how I needed too, got a head start for myself and messed with his banner and support spears, his banner proved very courageous in the end though. The one boo-boo I made was the banner, I gave him an easy 2 KP's, I should have made sure he was covered. Other than that, it is force choice for me. I NEED SOME RANGED!! I need to be able to sting the enemy a little before I reach them and also scrap the shaman at 250 he isn't worth the sacrifice in might and combat prowess that a captain has. Other than that I'm happy, just to reorganise the list then.......

Sam also played well I think, he just didn't have the dice sometimes. His protection of the banner was fantastic and even though he used his might relentlessly it kept him in the game as he tried to get into the combats he chose. He also went for my banner at the right moment (kudos) and picked of my spears supporting with pot shots. I have one huge criticism though, he gave numbers advantage, if I were him and that huge line of orcs and spectres had just crashed into and begun to overwhelm me with numbers, I would have fired as I advanced and helped out, the result of him not doing so gave me silly advantages, 5v1, 4v2, 4v1 and even more! Other than that, he played well as usual

I also have a battle later today I think so who's up for another report?

Don't know who I'm using yet so you'll have to wait and see

Not sure if i'm allowed to put points costs up. But i'll say twice as much as a bow. It's well worth it though. Does make the archers a bit pricey but worth it as it is kinda Harads thing anyway.

If I'm thinking the amount what you've said, really? I mean no offense to you in any way whatsoever as your keen on them obviously but I just can't see that being worth doubling the cost for one fella to have shoot 3+, it makes him more than an elf and they are strength three bows with a higher fight, though I guess they lack poison. Trusty Mathammer would probably work the standard as being more efficient per point I think but to each his own Christ I've used an army with nothing higher than Fight 3 and yet no model cheaper than 15pts

I think this one could be against Isengard as he receives my Uruks today

If you haven't got the fallen realms sourcebook then you may have the wrong points cost for your harad guys. In the rule book I have they are 6 points with a bow/spear or whatever but in the sourcebook they are 7 with the bow etc (a lot fairer I think).

The upgrade noobie2k7 mentioned is only 2 points extra, making the guy 9 points with a bow and a 3+ shoot value. I think you may have got confused what he meant?

On the note about your brothers bowmen, I would have done the same. Not only would it have added 5 extra guys to the fight on your (right?) flank but when his force was broken they would have probably been in standfast range and not have ran away!

Yeah fury probably isn't worth it in smaller battles then (I wouldn't actually know though having never used a shaman )

Ah, that I didn't know, had no idea there was a points increase meaning I was 21 points down........ Oh well makes victory a little sweeter we were wondering why haradrim and orcs were the same cost lol

Ah that's not so bad, it might be worth taking then, double points NO but 2 is quite good

Correct and correct. Yeh it would have won him the game for sure, he could have gone for my captain and pulled ahead.

On the hobby side I has no plastic glue so no more minas tirith peoples can be built yet guess that means either Boromirs free hand or Angmar then, or both even!

They wouldn't serve the dark lord due to their own agenda's so I just gave them a friendly nudge in the right direction

Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it, you shall get more Cheeky I am planning on playing 500pts tonight with a new mission

Ok guys and gals, got a small update cos I found the plastic glue, not the one I thought of but I found it! So that means more minas tirith! I started with what you see below:

Isildur, 15 Warrriors of Minas Tirith and 3 GotFC.
And they became this two hours later:

All the mechrite red done! Wanting to have all people done that I have to a stage where only browns and flesh tones left to do so this has helped massively, took a couple of hours to do. And now I hate Mechrite red.......

On a side note I will not be using Isildur as he is well, rubbish He is going to be a King of Men. Also just reading his profile seems GW couldn't be bothered giving his nice armour names, he just has 'very heavy armour' to make D7, nice one GW your efforts amaze me sometimes

Looking good! But I don't get how you paint that many models in one go!?! Would drive me crazzzyyyyy I normally do them one at a go

How many GotFC have you got?

Oh and on your question earlier about where it says to deploy within 6" of the warband captain, look at the deploying instructions for the mission, it says there but not on all of them because some missions everyone starts in reserve

Yeah, sorry bout the confusion with the upgrade thing XD i still don't think 9pts a bowman is bad seeing as how useful they are. But maybe not at 250pts i dunno.

The gondor guys are looking good so far. Wish i could paint guys in bulk like you. I get so bored. I just have no patience for painting.

I've yet to score a victory. I really don't get to play often. Most days my Beastmen see the action. I also have to proxy a lot with them.

hmmmm, it seems harad really isn;t such a good army. We've been tricked. Thinking about it i don;t think i;ve ever seen a harad battle report where they've won :O

Thanks man, trust me it ain't my usual approach I just thought it! to be frank Get 'em done lad!

I have 6 at the moment, don't think I'll invest in any more for a long while yet.

Yeh I found it at last! Read everywhere but there it seems

It's a matter of preference really, they are hard to choose between for just 2 pts.

Cheers buddy, the bulk painting you see is so rare for me that that picture could almost be a figment of your imagination

Aye, it was a glorious one, they fought well!

Hard luck guys, keep going though, it's just getting them dice to roll nice and some tactical tweeks is all

I wouldn't have said that Their specialist troops are ace: serpent guard, abrakan guard, watchers of karna, hashrin. They have some lethal stuff and who could forget the mumak!

So the battle has finished and the dust has settled, unfortunately I need to sleep for work tomorrow so a report won't be up until sunday but I will say this: HOLY COW WHAT A HUMDINGER!!! There were crazy dice, awesome feats of combat, heroic stands and many feats of bravery! This is the best game to date so stay tuned!!

Of course you can keep on chatting too, I'll be on and off just no solid time for report is all

Oh god how could i forget the mumak :O Probly cause most battles are fought at 500pts where you're never ever going to take one.

Shame the GW army list for harad in the getting started secton lies by showing models on the howdah when they never paid for them >.>

But i'll stick with my harad, starting to think though if i'm going to have archers with the warriors of karna upgrade i might as well go with watchers of karna with bows for same points cost + magic resistance, +2 courage against terror and +1 fight and attacks.

But you're gondor is coming along well, you don;t really need more than 6 GotFC for a decent gondor force in SBG anyway. You got any citidel guard with longbows? I've seen them be really useful.

Yeh I noticed that they were way too much in the starter thing too! GW can't count would make sense with the prices eh

That sounds a lot better and the conversions wouldn't be that hard neither I dont think plus the models are nice heard good things about them

Yeh no more GotFC but ironic you should mention the citadel guard cos I'm actually buying half a dozen at the end of the month, can you read minds? they are pretty damn good especially seen as they have elven bows also getting a box of knights
