Just a general question; I'm not necessarily knocking 5th ed but I just don't get as excited to play as I used to. I find that I've stated to look to older games to get my mini pushing & dice rolling addiction fed. Like necromunda. If I am at the game store and someone wants to play a game I will check to see if there is any one else for them to play before I accept. And last year I was stoked for 'Ard boyz now I'm not sure I would go if it were free...

And I don't think it's just the rules (which certainly have their problems) but also the fluff they've rewritten or thrown out all together for the sake of streamlining or whatever (some of which can be seen in the background section of the rulebook).

P.S. I'm sure this isn't the first thread of its type but I couldn't find one to add to with my search-fu

I really enjoy 5th, and although I have some minor annoyances with it, prefer it to 4th.

I restarted WHFB earlier this month after a 4 year break though.. perhaps this was a sub-conscious move away from 5th 40K?

I am playing more fantasy battles lately.. I am not so sure it has anything to do with the 5th edition rules or the fact that the local GW is running a campaign

I haven't played a single game of 5th so far. Hopefully the starter set and the rumoured Ork 2nd wave will motivate me again.

I have yet to play a single game of 5th ed. I just don't have the time to get a game in.

I have 2 game under my belt in 5th ed in the last week. Thats 20% of all the games I played during all of 4th.

I am having far more fun now, but I think that has more to do with cool opponents than it does with new rules.

I am seriously contemplating getting into fantasy now. Just more people play that here.

The sheer stupidity of 5th edition made me finally quit 40k, so I guess the answer is yes.

When I started 5th I thought something were just stupid and I thought I might quit for good, but then I started to really enjoy 5E, it's got some flaws yeah, but every edition has had them. I think I'll be playing more often now under 5E then I did in 4E.

You can't fix stupid.

Games of 4th ed = 15, 12 at tournies.

Games of 5th ed = 0.

So yes I'm playing less.

Games of WHFB = hundreds in the last 3 years.

So I guess theres no real consensus on the point some people love it others hate it.

I think part of why I play less is that it finally sank in just how nerfed my blood angels are in 5th when I played against a good friend of mine who plays space wolves; I used to beat him more often than not in close combat heavy games- now I cant rely on my troops in cc like I used to. blood angels used to be on par with chaos, bt's and sw's in the assault phase now i'm just red ultramarines...

I have other armies but my bloody boys are where the heart is (or something)

I'm fine with it, an expect to play more 5th than 4th when all is said and done. The rules are clearer, and the gameplay is a bit smoother. That's good.

I think I probably play about the same number of games in a month now 5th ed's out as I did with 4th.

I'm enjoying the game more, I find the rules changes are things which i can get on board with, and whilst there are some things which aren't perfect I find it a better edition than 4th.

I'm playing the same amount just because free time is the main factor of whether I play a game or not.

With that said, the games I do get to play I enjoy more because the 5th edition rules offer more diverse and enjoyable gameplay IMO.

Yeah, 5th edition is a lot less gamesy. I played no games of 3rd, and precicesly 2 games of 4th and didn't enjoy either, nor saw any potential for enjoyment because there were too many jarring irritations that just made me not like the way it played. 5th ed has eliminated a lot of that and made the rules easier to follow, consequently I will be playing some 5th ed and (slowly) building a new army. It ain't perfect but its good enough for me not to kick it out of bed.

Cheers

5th ed took out some minor abuse that can be made in 4th ed. example, wound allocating.

during 4th, i played once a month. now with fifth i play thrice a month now more or less. i love how they hastened DRAGGING assaults back in forth. i like how 40k derived some fantasy ruling in close combat. cuz the main thing i loved about fantasy was CC and magic.

I've played 1. I've practically given up on 40k just a bit before the 5th ed Rules came out and was playing WHFB, though now even that has fallen by the wayside as the majority of my local gaming group is playing Warmachine & Hordes.

Just the one so far, I'm not too sure about 40k now, I'm not seeing any of the changes as an improvement. The redone Imperial Guard codex will decide 40k' s fate for me. I have Hordesmachine & FoW to distract me as well.

yeah,
I've been really into 5th edition,
all the changes make perfect sense and speed the game up. this has definently got me play more games.

Playing more games has reenergised my painting, I've got lots of units planned for both my current armies to make them more 5th ed compliant.

And I'm getting my gaming terrain into order. I've been looked at how my terrain fits in with the TLOS rules. I have a tau terrain project on hold while i look at the TLOS/Terrain/Game interaction.

I'm really pro 5th edition.

Since 5th Ed came out I've played more games of BattleTech than ever before in my life. Hell, I played 5 games of BTech last weekend - I don't think I've ever played that many games of 40K in a weekend before.

And 5th Ed? Pfft! Zero. Why would I play a ruleset written by morons?
