I actually really enjoyed the 7 hour Snyder supercut real-time Dawn of the Dead: Daybreak
As a horde, they look totally fab. As for dodgy photos, I think that they just look like archive footage

Fear the zombie horde! Great work all around. And the lifeguards I've seen so far definitely err towards normal swimsuits, but your mini is sure to have come from Outbreak: Baywatch, so it fits

Nice work, the green skin will really set them apart from the survivors and make gaming easier, as well as having the vital "ewww-factor"

7 hours? I'm not sure I could handle that...Also, thanks for the kind words. While individual models are kind of hit-or-miss, the whole shambling horde works pretty well en masse.

Thanks. I'm stll not a fan of the sexy zombies, but after the first few I just went with it. They'll work well enough for enemies on the tabletop.

I used my go-to zombie recipe-- AP Necrotic Flesh, AP Soft Tone ink, and then some simple highlighting. They won't win any awards, but you can tell at a glance that they are zombies, and that's what's important.

Since last time, I have finished these three Survivors:

The models are based on illustrations from the Last Days rulebook, and are made byTemple West. The hands were a little bit of a pain to drill and pin, but the models are hand-sculpted and full of "character," that most elusive of qualities.

For the Dakka Painting Challenge, I've decided to paint up the Mutant Team for Dreadball:

In 1E/DBX, I think these were the Plague Team, but have been rebranded for the new edition. Essentially, they are hulked-out Frankensteins, allowing you to mix and match parts to make custom players. I even finished the first two:

I like how the Nameless-dude's tentacles came out, but his pose made painting his uniform pants difficult. The Z'zor-dude's uniform worked better, but his pose makes him top-heavy and prone to falling over.

Here they are together:

Next up: more Dreadball!

Thanks. We go back and revisit DB periodically, and enjoy it every time. I don't have the Nameless team yet, but it's on the list.

One advantage is (relatively) bling-free models is how quickly they get finished.

Four more Dreadball Mutants finished:

Their mutations/grafts are, from left to right:
Grogan head with Sphyr tail, Teraton Arms, Yndij legs, Yndij legs with Asterian head and Judwan arm. The Yndij bodies have a sort of mane running up their backs, but it ends at the neck. It looked weird enough that I added some more Kneadatite hair. In fact, all of these models so far are getting a lot of gap-filling/blending because the joints are so rough. This represents a great departure from my standard "Do No Cleanip" policy for restic models of this vintage.

Here's the whole team to-date:

And here's a shot of some garbage cans that I painted but forgot to take photos of:

Thanks, dude. The skin was a lucky accident. Some leftover paints on my wet palette ran together and I liked how the mix looked. Also, rest assured that I removed the bare minimum of mold lines. All the bumps on the models hide my lack of effort quite nicely, I think.

I have finished the strikers for the Dreaball mutants:

Sorry for the crummy photos. I need to play around with the camera settings on my new phone. I also finished the captain:

He leans so far forward that it's proving difficult to get a good shot of him. Finally, here's the whole team:

Overall, I'm pleased with how they turned out, but I'm equally pleased to be finished with the project. I don't enjoy army-style painting, with multiple models repeating the same color scheme, and I was pretty tired of green, red , and white by the end.

Next up, more Project: Z survivors!

Thanks. The wings don't seem to blend very well with the body, but that's due to my lack of effort than the model itself, I think.

It hasn't been declared, but it looks that way. I'm really surprised, because there are quite a few better entries than mine.

Thanks, Captain Brown!

I managed to finish the first three of the female survivors:

The leftmost survivor reminded me of (a slighty-sexified) Dan Scully, so I put her in more professional white and grey. I used a black glaze to give her stockings/pantyhose, and it worked well enough to tabletop distances. The little girl is in her Easter dress-- she comes with a helmeted head option (like Newt from Aliens), but it looked weird with the dress rather than overalls. I gave the rightmost model a checked shirt, which works pretty well from the back, not so much from the sides and front.

These first three are a lot less sexy than I had feared, but the next set kind of makes up for it. I hope to have them ready to share in a few days.

Thanks, although I can't really take credit for the building of the models-- they're essentially monopose models with zero options on the basic sprue.

Thanks. I'm pretty happy with that particular model, although I didn't quite nail the sheer stockings. One more skill to work on.

Kid_Kyoto wrote:These look like good generic mutants, I like the contrast with green-grey and the orange pants.

Thanks. I went with the white and red-orange pants because these are supposed to be a sports team, and also because the models would have been really boring to look at without some color.

Will do, Cap'n!

Slinky wrote:More good stuff, well done! What little girl doesn't want a huge revolver for her birthday?

Thanks. I find the contrast between the little princess outfit and the oversized firearm delightful.

I cranked out the last of the female Survivors. I based this first one on a Pam Greer movie poster:

This one is described as The Survivalist in the assembly instructions, although she seems a little underdressed for that role:

This is more sensibly dressed in jeans and a leather jacket. I need to take care of that black spot on the face:

Bazooka Jane is based on that male survivor with the plumber's crack, with the addition of a bazooka/RPG launcher.

This one originally had a golf club, but it snapped off when I was priming the model. The head I chose gave me a Martha Stewart vibe, so I replaced the broken arm with a cleaver. That said, the colors I ended up using for the outfit remind me more of Steve Irwin. I would have liked to see a crossover show with those two:

This one is supposed to have a tennis racquet, but that seemed to ridiculous, even for this setting. I gave her a chainsaw instead:

Finally, Linda Hamilton makes an appearance. I had a really hard time with the shoulder straps:

After the sexed-up female zombies, I was wary about this set, but they were better than I thought they would be. In general, they seem inspired by Linda Hamiltion and/or Carrie Moss, badass ladies rather than cheesecake models. Here they are all together:

Between the Project:Z and Mars Attacks! survivors, I have enough civilians for any type of near-future post-apoc game I want to try. Next up, in honor of the release of Firefight 2ed, I'll be painting these Mantic Rebs:

Who don't actually have an army list in Firefight. They've been languishing in their plastic bags ever since Deadzone v1, and it's time they see the light of day. I'll be choosing my favorites to enter in the Painting Challenge for June.

Thanks, fellows.

I cranked out the first two Rebs:

As always, I struggle to get my phone camera to focus. I spent more time than I normally would cleaning up the mold lines on these two. I kept their colors simple, as I assume that Rebs wouldn't want to be too visible in the Deadzone.

I have a couple of Yndij started, and hope to have them ready to share in a day or two.
