Hi there folks,
I am a female ork player who fancies collecting another army, I have only ever played orks ( I am patriotic to my greenies).
However, I've been fancying a little change now and then, so I was wondering if anyone would recommend another army I can collect. I have taken abit of a fancying to tyranids but need advice as I think I might be stuck in an orky rutt!

Help me!!!!!!

Necrons. I think they're the epitome of the anti-Ork.

Pure shooting, great saves, low model count, etc.

It depends on whether you want to paint an army because you enjoy painting it, or paint an army because you enjoy playing with it. I myself, always try to pick an army that will be a challenge to paint, unique (i.e, no one else has one) and that's a bitch to play with, to challenge my Skills. E.g. . . . .

Pure Thousand Sons Army. 9 in every squad, and only units that fit in to their background, so no defilers, vindicators etc.

Genestealer Cult. Bitch to build cause there's no models for it, bitch to play cause your vehicles breakdown on you without warning (Rules from Jorunel Vol 16.)

Planetary Defence Force. Loads of worthless troops to paint, gangers, restricted to using defensive weaponry (artillary) and no offensive stuff (Leman Russ Tanks)

Legion of the Damned. Bitch to play (get about 30 models for 1500pts), lovely to convert and paint.

A bit of everything really....... Titanicus, Bolt Action, Cruel Seas, Black Seas, Blood Red Skies, Kingdom Death, Relic Knights, DUST Tactics, Zombicide the lit goes on.............

London (work) / Pompey (live, from time to time)

if your an ork player now and you want a change from orks, go for tau, pure all out shooting isnt too bad.
or if you want something similar then go for nids.

A slum in scotland... the only shinty with a computer!

there is a fairly east transition from orks to nids, cos there a simelar play style, fairly cheep per model, and you get quite alot on 1 board, but there are a few suttle diffrenced, and paintin you can use your orky skills, cos there aliens too, bonus you can make a relitivly crazy paint patern as fancy as you want with nids ad there realy blank canvises with boild and wrinkles,

Well, that's obviously not true, as orks come from spores.

My suggestion is Word Bearers or Alpha Legion. Both really cool armies. They got a style to them all their own. Or maybe Red Corsairs? They'd work out well if you have some AoBR marines left over or something.

Nids are cool too, especially stealer cults, although those are closer to an IG army.

The trick there is, IG have the new codex coming out.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

Does you Ork army know you feel this way? Have you talked to them about this? Whatever you do, don't tell them that you want another army over text, because that's just mean. Tell them in person.

well space wolves is option, i haven't seen too many, but they are a fun assault army, plus they get those nice 3+ saves, their blood claws are scary, 15 marines, 3 powers fists, flamer and 4 attacks when charging the get frags nades for free, and with the new run rules if the get a 6 they can be 24" by the end of your 1st turn(can deploy 12" from your table edge, move 6, roll a 6 on d6, 12+12=24") not to mention if you hug cover, or throw a rune priest or two out there for cover on the go(another cool thing about the wolves, for every 750pts of models you have to have 1 HQ, and you can use a Ven Dredy as a HQ two dreadnought for HQ, and then three more for Elite slots for a 1500pt game, thats alot of hurt in some tin cans) they are a fun army, played them against some tau..lets just say my two squads of 13 blood claws made it to the firewarrior firing line and turned them into nothing on the first assault and moved up toward the path finders, the game was over, i never fired the BC till i was about to assault, and i did lose a few here and there but once they charged...it was all over..so being an ork player you might like the CC geared army of the wolves, just my opinion hope it helps

If you are looking for an army that plays different from orks, I would steer you away from nids. My suggestion is a Biel-tan Eldar force, It has a little bit of everything, and its a nice change of pace for painting too. (as a bonus their colors are Green, and white so you wont have to buy paint )

I would ask what kind of a break are you looking for? A break from painting hordes (don't go Tyranid ... trust me, I've been there), looking for a break from the play style or want to play something a little more surgical? Guess it would help us if we knew a little more about what you think you want.

Welcome aboard.

If you're looking for an army for 40k, Orks are a pretty solid choice, but you won't get a much of a "variety" feel from them relative to your existing WFB Orks.

The notions to start Necrons, Thousand Sons, Space Wolves, or Genestealer Cult, while novel, are problematic, as these really aren't current Codices, so there are more rules problems.

I'd suggest something with a current Codex: Space Marines / Dark Angels / Chaos Marines / Daemons / Eldar. If you like Guard, wait until May, when that Codex comes out.

Hey another female Ork player ^_^

I personally Enjoy Farsight Tau and CSM without Demons.

If you want to try out Fantasy, which I'm honestly enjoying more then 40k at the moment, Wood Elves are the Female Gamer Standard. The new Lizardmen book is rather good, and they have some great models.

Well folks to cut a long story short I play orks in both WFB and 40k. In WFB, I am just a bit fed up of painting them, I have some of the originals and some of the newer ones and rto be frank they aren't all that different. As for 40K I am looking for a littl ebit more perzaz in my fighting having only ever played orks I feel it is time now to expand my army horizon, however I don't want to play space marines or tau. I like both the hoibbying side and the gaming side opf 40k and the painting of tau don't seem like much of a challenge I guess thats what I am looking for a challenge.
I play agianst my husband you see and well, he likes to think he's it, you know he has a bit of a superiority complex, which is annoying at the best of times. He plays space marines (crimson fists) and has now started to collect Eldar, I just want to thrash him basically, but with a new army. Don't tell my men morall is already at an all time low.

OK, if MEQs and Eldar are out, how about Daemons?

Well, the best armies for trashing someone are probably:
Orks, which you have
Eldar, which your husband has
Chaos Marines, which are MEQ
Chaos Daemons, and
Sisters of Battle.

Guard are being redone in May(?), so they may be up there too, or they may not.

Dark Eldar aren't too bad, but their model range is severely lacking.

If it's a painting project, buy yourself a box of Harlequins, and let the paint fly.

My first suggestion there would have been Eldar, but I believe you mentioned that they were not an option for you. So after that, I would go with daemons. There is a lot of variety amongst their units and you can paint them up in a myriad of ways. The potential for conversions is also huge. I'm a little unfamiliar with how well they perform on the field but I'm sure there are ways to whip them into a winning army.

I suggest either 40k daemon ( for variety of painting / conversion fun )

or some tyranids are fine too!. For some reason girls paint the best nids.

Daemons are good because with a little creativity, you can make movement trays for round bases, and use them in fantasy as well.

There are also a lot of neat things that you can do paint-wise with them, and different styles to play them too - and they're all around good at killing Crimson Fists.

The Inquisition is pretty up there on the detailed painting too.

Drawing little emperors and saints and scriptures on everything.

Except, Inquisition is a "dead" Codex ATM. If you want to help, it's better limit suggestions to current Codices.

Imperial Guard.

Painting the guard is the one you want, good variety, alot of different options to try. Tanks, and the new codex looks like it has something for everyone. That will keep you busy for a little while.

IG... It's whats for dinner.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

The Inquisition codices are not dead, they're as valid as any other.

Sisters are one of the better armies right now, even.

Stop trying to make people think they're the LatD or something.

Dark Eldar is valid (and competitive), too. I wouldn't recommend that to anyone, either.

I didn't say Inq = LatD.

But to imagine that INQ has active support like SM / CSM / Daemons / Orks / IG / Eldar is untrue.

What does "active support" entail?

The only reason I wouldn't recommend Dark Eldar is the models being terrible, and WH have a pretty good model range.
