There's little point showing a group picture like the one below if it doesn't include the entire set of new models.
So unless there's a "Wave 2" a bit down the road, it looks like half the Aspect Warriors are still gonna be fail-cast for a few more YEARS.
Apart from the already previewed Corsair pirate unit you mean?
Scorpions are a good candidate for a similar KT release. Another wave within the next 12 months after the initial release is very likely these days.

I'm not sure they are. All the new KT stuff has been consistently units that can contain varying individual specialists with unique wargear, and that's not Aspect Warriors unless there's a major shift in their design direction.

Scorps are more likely to see a future codex, expansion, or BOTP-style release.

Not an unmitigated disaster, but still.

Imagine if it had been an updated version that evoked the solid, menacing, immovable spectre of the original instead of this new frail and waifish thing they've chosen instead. Shame.

So basically we're gonna get Hawks and Spiders later in 9th Edition in some battlebox, and the rest of the range will be hopefully rejuvenated for 11th.
It's nice to have some updates but goddamn, they could have done at least all the Phoenix lords in on wave, they are so bloody old...

Though all the rumours suggested that Corsairs would have no actual characters in the codex, so I'm assuming we're not getting rules for him (or anyone else) outside of kill team.

Sigh.

Yeah but are any of them going to be actual, generic characters or is it just going to be just a bog-standard unit of Corsairs?

I totally agree.

I don't mind the death metal aesthetic so much as that this guy is really a Death jester in disguise. Has come up already, but the Dark Reaper Phoenix Lord should be an immovable brick of a firestorm on two heavily armoured legs, with old background including spikes that held him down so that his weapons wouldn't cause him to become unstable as he unleashed all sort so concussive fiery nastiness from half a world away...

Well, yes, but that's because they've locked themselves into this cycle where New and Improved = Bigger, which is absurd.

If they had redone the Greater Daemons at the same size as the previous models, but as customisable plastic models, people would have been just as happy with them. Same with the Avatar... But making them huge forces people to upgrade or be criticized for using 'inappropriately small' models.

i dont know if thats true, espec when more models came out from other companies that had a wider spread of sizes.

I think you misunderstood what they meant. The last aeldari reveal was the corsair kill team model.

Not so sure about that, Kill Team is a separate thing to 40k. The article that mentioned one more big reveal was about 40k not Kill Team. The games may be set in the same universe, bit they are separate things.

The objective of the game is to win. The point of the game is to have fun. The two should never be confused.

This. When Khaine shattered the nightbringer, he gained the aspect of the reaper and the universe was suddenly afraid of death. Dark Reapers represent this aspect of Khaine, so it makes a ton of sense for Maugan Ra to be a Nightbringer cosplayer.

I prefer the old bunky Maugan Ra, in contrast to the more slender Death Jester, now he just look like Death Jester but more edgy, even the way he hold the cannon is similar.

No need to pause and slap a new banana clip in, and allows Maugan Ra to continue reaping without interruption.

Oh you're right. BOOOOOOO. Dislike the ammo feed. Dislike the hood (bare helmeted head option please and thank you, if there isn't one then the sculptor dropped the ball), I can tolerate the cloak but would have preferred it if his armor detail was more visible as in the original mini - those collar bones really made it great.

For now, probably. There are rumours posted earlier in this thread (from the same sources who leaked codex details) that there's another Eldar wave coming next year. At least one source said that Hawk & Spider models are done.
GW's goal for the big codex + range updates like this seems to focus two things:
  • Get players who don't collect that faction already to buy in
  • Don't release too much in one go (10-12 kits seems to be the max), as it has diminishing returns.

  • In this case they seem to have focused heavily on core units like generic HQ & all Troop entries so anyone starting an Eldar army now is getting new models for the essentials. Half the Aspect infantry are now in plastic, and more Aspect updates can be done independently later on like with Blood of the Phoenix.
I'm confident that at least some of them are already 'done' but are being held back for a later release.

I think CSM are a good benchmark for this - how long has it been since their last wave of minis? They got a wave in Shadowspear, then a few months later they got a number of additional kits right? And then since then its been nothing until soon-ish when they drop another big update to their model range. I expect Aeldari will be somewhat similar - we got a small update in Blood of the Phoenix, now we get another big update like 2 years later? SO it might be another 1-2 years for the next. Mechanicus have followed a similar pattern. They got their 2 initial releases in 7th, then a couple years later they got a small update with their new tank/transport, etc. then not long after they got the cav, flying units, etc.

"There’s one more Aeldari surprise coming from today’s smorgasbord of Warhammer Preview Online reveals"

The reveals are done. There were no more eldar reveals, except the kill team one. And although kill team is a separate game, the corsair unit will have a generic option to be played in 40k. Thats what they meant.

I'm still catching up on the thread but my first though was how the model would fit into the old 54mm Inquisitor game. I think he'd end up being as big to the eldar ranger as the now "old" 2e Avatar is to the current scale/line of eldar.

Out of this new Eldar wave, my faves are the new Guardians, Rangers, now shown Corsairs (I am confident these will be awesome based on one model alone) and the sniper-on-a-jetbike models. The new shinig spears might look aight but I hate the white paintjob too much to be able to have an informed opinion ATM.

Dark Reapers coulda been cool too but they messed up the helmets IMO

    I mostly agree with this.
The spear seem rather bland. Not sure if its the paint job or what.

My conversion idea for shining spears currently:

I have a bunch of venari dawnrider helmets I got off ebay and DA torsos being slapped on windrider legs and some sawn off bright lances

My initial thought was using the venari from my untouched Lumineth box set. Don't think they have spare heads so I wounder if the bare "Ynnari" ones or even the crested helms would work on the Venari? Going to look at rest of lumineth line now for other possible head ideas for the spears.

Looking at the leaked rules for the Avatar vs rules for the various Bloodthirsters, and other Greater Daemons, and I'd say he's a pretty good match for them now. In fact, the half damage buff puts him as a pretty clear victor in 1v1 fits against any of them.

I just looked over the various Necron C'tan Shards and I think the Nightbringer is the only one that could give the Avatar serious concern in a 1v1. Sure you could only do max 3 damage per phase to any C'tan, but only the NB has a scary weapon because he ignores invuls.
It would basically be a race to see if the Avatar can survive the 4 rounds needed to kill the NB.

I would argue that the paint job is just too white and clean. The old Shining Spears weren't really decorative, but the paint job didn't have this searing(shining?) whiteness on the model. The older models had more blue in the armor and all creases had heavier shading that provided contrast. The new ones have reduced the dark blue about 50% as well as made the blue color lighter so it almost feels like a half finished model.

Wave 2 is a guarantee. My guess is we will see probably another character and aspect shrine in a Killteam or some other product within the next 12 months, and probably a wave 2 for the 10th ed codex, which given the timing probably means post summer 2023. Wow, it's already been two years since 9th came out.
