Just wanted to toss this out there. I am starting to really like Horrors. They have been doing very well for me the last 2 tournies where PLaguebearers just sit there... doing nothing :(

What do you like and why?

my vote goes to letters

stong, tough combat unit, all armed with PW's, good number of attacks at a good WS.
great for killing meq, or simply for slaughtering geq.

Suffused with the dying memories of Sanguinus, the warriors of the Death Company seek only one thing: death in battle fighting against the enemies of the Emperor.

I think that horrors are a unit with respectable shooting and cheap, strong upgrades. They also can deal damage the turn they drop and can threaten light vehicles. I think that a daemon army needs not more than a single plague bearer unit to sit on the farthest objective from the enemy.

Bloodletters are fragile, but if they charge, its all over. they are well worth their points.

The daemon army is much like Eldar in their army construction, except they are just ten times better in every way. They require balance, and the ratio that has always never let me down:

2Nurgle:2Slaanesh:1Khorne:1Tzeench

Never take nurglings, I only bought the models for Ku'gath's ability.

Best Troop out of the lot, though has to be Daemonettes

Okay, rending got bitch slapped in 5th ed, but... Daemonettes will most likely hit first in HtH with high base Initiative and grenades, adding fleet made them much more likely to charge into combat with 4 attacks each.

Their survivability turns out much higher than 'letters after learning to use them right. The only competitor with them are genestealers (and if they don't have flesh hooks you just sit in cover for them to assault you), that is why we have SGs though.

The true followers of the God-Emperor will never forget their name! We are the Imperial Guard!
Now and forever serving the God-Emperor, and Him alone!

If your plaguebearers don't just sit there doing nothing, you're playing them wrong

For me it's Plaguebearers only because the Elites, Heavies, and HQ are so good that you don't need Troops with teeth, you need them to hold objectives which despite their 15 point cost Plaguebearers are one of the best if not the best units in the game for the price for holding objectives.

Slightly-less-than-close second goes to Bloodletters. If you're gonna take them you gotta spam 'em cause they die easy peasy for their points. But in a themed Khorne army they can be good.

Horrors have a weird ranking for me because I'd never want to take more than one of them but in certain Fateweaver builds I take one, because of the 5 point Changeling upgrade and the fact that when they're next to Fateweaver, their 4+ rerollable invuln save means that opponents will have bigger priorities than taking them out (and if you take more than one Horror squad it can be difficult to get them all next to the Fateweaver in addition to everything else.)

Nurglings I'd only take in a Epidemius list, and even then, usually if you get the count up to the point where they're worthwhile you're gonna win anyway.

Daemonettes I'd never take unless the metagame totally eschews shooting, and even then only one squad to assault units in cover that the Bloodletters would go second against. So they're dead last.

I go for a 50-50 mix of horror and bloodletters. I tend to try to go for a devastating first strike, followed up by giving the opponent a really tough set of choices.

Now, if I know what I'm going to be facing, the list gets adjusted. Against grey knights for instance, I bring daemonettes. Fleet and the grenades help make sure I get the charge on them, and against their weaponry, T3 vs T4 isn't as much of a difference as going first is.

IN my 1750 army, it's one unit of horrors (10) another squad of letters (10) and a squad of PB's (9).

The horrors always die, but against GEQ they always make their money back. My letters rarely do massive damage, but then, thats because everyone targets them, so it's a good pay off.

The PB's go to objective, go to ground - and live a long and happy life

Since Nurglings are an option, I have to go with them JUST over Plague Bearers. With Epidemus they go from 'the best tarpits in the game' to 'the best tarpits in the game made of death.' Besides that, they are swarms, so they can go to ground in cover for a 2+ save, and with Epidemus, a 2+ FnP (97.2% save, 83% against instant death or templates). Troops hold objectives, Heavies and HQs take objectives. Simple as that.

Except that since they are swarms they can't hold an objective only contest. It's horror's first and then plague bearers for me.

Well personally I love deamonettes, though I understand that they aren't the best, but they have their shining moments. You can't really pick a number one chaos deamon infantry unity, they all excel at their own thing. The best objective holder is PB hands down. The best shredding close combat unit is BL hands down. The best support/quick shock assault close combat unit is deamonettes. The best shooting unit is horrors. An I wont bring in the nurglings. Everything is good at something.
