Anyone have any set beliefs on well protecting army transports? I'm used to using Chessex cases in the past, but w/ my well forming Ork army... It ain't gonna cut it anymore. Does anyone have a Sabol case and how does it hold up to abuse? It looks... Cheap.

I use socks box + towel.

Nothing ever ever broke ( i dont even pin my minis )

if you know how to position the towel around the mini, its by far more customized then normal foams.

That battle foam stuff looks to be most effective. I own a GW case (I ended up getting 3 of them for free, haha)... I personally think its a good way to store/transport your minis. Plus if you have a blank case, you can paint it (SUPER NERD IS GO!)

I have two Sabol cases - they're well built and hold up fine.

I'm very impressed with Battlefoam trays - so chances are their cases are good too.

I've got a double rifle case with eggshell foam on the inside. $35 US, and it holds 100+ figures maybe more.

Early model Sabol army transports are actually kinda crappy. They would fall apart at the seams from heavy use, the seam itself would be intact, but the crappy thin synthetic fabric they used would tear off around the seams, this happened especially around the load bearing parts like the shoulder strap.

I plan to go to my local gun shop and pickup some gun cases, then fill them with custom battlefoam.

honestly? If you are going orks... you're gonna have a lot of boys. Probably worth investing in the battle foam cases

You know, though the battlefoam price tag for a PACK 1520 + Ork loadout looks expensive at $200, I figure that if you haven't bought any cases yet, it's best to do it right the first time and invest in an extraordinary bag.

Rather my thought at present actually.

I picked up an Army Transport Motorpool to carry my Orks in and I'm looking for a replacement.

The case itself is great, I've no complaints about it. I simply didn't purchase a case sufficiently large for all of my Orks.

I'll probably go up to a Division case or the larger Battlefoam one, but not immediately.

Pelican cases would probably be the ultimate way to go, but they're expensive. I wonder of Battlefoam would make a tray to fit in one...

yeah a pelican case is the ultimate, but the ultimate over kill!
I don't know why anyone would want a case that's water proof, fire resistant, and shock proof for their minis.

Only $200? That actually seems reasonable for a good bag and full ork foam load out. I know, $200 is a lot, but while the bulk of my army are generic Ork boyz (From AOBR nonetheless, I want to make the special squads showcase quality paint jobs and conversions so good protection is key.

That said, I'm still checking out gun cases, because all that those bags really offer are extra pouches for stuff.

Both armytransports and the PACK bags from battlefoam.

Basically, they offer straps and extra pouches to store stuff. But, all I need is miniature protection and a handle for now.

I haven't settled on perfect solution for my Orks, I'm using the flat plastic boxes with snap lids I carried my WFB stuff in. I hate putting individual figs in foam trays, especially plastic ones. So, I don't use the 3 GW cases I have, except for storage. Plastic figs don't suffer as much from abuse as metal ones, and they transport better. I went the old Fantasy route, and glued Rare Earth magnets to the underside of the bases, and carry them stuck on tin roofing shingles. I get a squad on a shingle, which makes deployment and cleanup easy. The figs don’t slide or fall off, I can hold the shingles upside-down and they wont fall off. But, vehicles are a problem I have not solved. Also, my boxes spread horizontally, instead of vertically, which is a hassle.

Oh, and if you do use magnets, let the glue dry completely before sticking the figs in an airtight storage container. The fumes will discolor paint and the container.

If you're shipping them, this makes perfect sense. If I had a tournament-quality army I think a $200 Pelican case would not be a big deal. Maybe load it with Sabol or BattleFoam trays if I could find a good way to fit.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

Those look pretty sweet... still holding out for a Battlefoam case and customer foam loadout though.

I use the Sabol stuff. I like the new Battlefoam cases but I already have too much invested in sabol so I'm gonna stick with them. When I add a new unit or 2 to my army, I will usually buy a new tray to go along with it so I always keep everything stored in a tray when I can to keep it safe. For transport I have 3 different bags, the standard, the motor pool and the super big division case with wheels. Then depending on what I want to play I'll just grab the trays I need and stuff em in whatever case. I'd like to keep my models on display, but they just collect so much dust, so this way everything is kept safe and hidden away in a closet where they won't get dusty or banged up. It's pricey I guess but if you're just getting a tray or 2 at a time it's not a big deal.

I already have 3 Sabol Bags 2 regualar ones and a Division mega bag ... I am planning on ordering Battlefoam trays for all of them. The # of mini's in the same space is just awesome and the foam looks to be much more durable. I doubt I'll order their bag (exelent though it may be) simply to avoid redundancy ... or maybe I'll sell of my bags the next time I sell an army and replace with a battlefoam bag ... hmmm the possabilities!

I use the Sabol stuff too, and lots of it. They're great. If I were to start over, I'd get a combo of the battlefoam trays for infantry and a Sabol bag.

I have an army transport, the biggest one they make. It is actually the maximum size for a legal carry on on an airplane (US standard, no idea on UK).

I use to travel for work and ahows and needed to take minis with me so I really needed it (to be a legal carry on bag). Also I travel with minis a lot and if you are going to do that, there really is no substitute IMO.

Good luck!

Army Transport with battlefoam trays works good, I also have a large fishing tackle container that holds lost of minis safely.

*Raises hand* I want pelican cases badly. ESPECIALLY for Airline trips.

Yoo lot is muckin about.

Just scoop your orks up and put them in a big bucket.

Then pour the orks out when you play. Cheap and effective!

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

I have a friend who does this. He has a big cardboard box wth everything in it. Very unnerving to watch him unpack and toss a casualty into the box midgame. This is done while I carefully remove dollies from my Sabols.

I have 3 regular Sabol and the monster wheeled case from hell. Dark Angels go into 3 regular Sabols and I assume my Eldar will fill the monster.

I like Sabol, just wish they held more

May take peek at battleform to see what accomadations (sp) can be made for the dollies.
