I was awe struck by some awesome Warjack models floating around Dakka and thought 'I gotta have that.' Now, I don't know the state of the game (given the topics, there was a new rulebook that just came out?), but I was wonderingwhat I would like if I ever came to picking it up as a game instead of painting opportunity. I play Nurgle Chaos Marines at the moment (infantry so hardy they take anti-tank rounds to bring down reliably) and I am really comfortable in that style. The two armies that struck me were Khador and Cryx. I am leaning on Khador as they would take less models to build and paint and Man'O Wars look like dudes, but the zombie jacks are always cool and my 40k army is led by a Sorcerer badass, so being backed up by the best warcasters would be nice. As far as stats go, how do the high Toughnesses of Khador Jacks balance out against the high Defence of Cryx Jacks? Can the Cryx be effective without a horde of dudes, do they have any tough multipurpose troops? I really want to know everything, so what army size is comperable to 1000 points of 40k? How does the game flow work (I know 'play like you got a pair')? What does the force organization chart for Warmachine look like? Try to relate it to me in 40k terms if you can, as that will make it click the easiest.

If you sign up to the MkII playtest site you can download WIP rules and cards for free. I'm not sure about game sise comparisons in MKII but I would guess about 25 points. Force organisation is one Warcaster, a warjack (paid for out of the warcasters warjack allowance) and then X number of points worth of models chosen as you please. Models have an FA (field allowance) this will either be C (one unly, unique, character) U (unlimited) or a number (the number you can field per warcaster).
If you want tough; Khador (or Trolls) are your man.

Do it soon. We don't know how long they'll have the materials available. Field Test ends this
week, I believe, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were gone from public availability after
Friday.
Then you have to wait until next year for them to sell the cards.

I am semi new to the game but I can give you the small amount of insight I have. I play khador because they are tough and they fit the way I like to play, But they are not by any means just about brute force. They require a certain amount of finesse and management to be effective. Khador has the most durable and the most powerful jacks in the game, but they are not immortal killing machines like they appeared to me before I played. They generally have a little bit more strength a little more armor and a few more hit boxes than other jacks. They have some disadvantages however, in that they are the slowest jacks in the game, and they have the lowest Defense stat in the game, along with a lower Melee attack stat than most jacks. This being said, as a khador player using alot of jacks, the issue is getting your jacks into melee with as many enemies as possible without being mowed or slowed down before you can do anything. Dont take my word for it, you really should read the rules and play test both cryx and khador before choosing one to spend money on. Checking out battles played by experienced players and asking for their insight is very important, however they may be bias towards their faction. Remember that EVERY faction has a weakness and the ability to exploit pretty much any weakness, so dont think that because khador jacks are tougher and stronger, that they are unstoppable.

As I'm reading through the book (rather slowly as I can only come back to it every hour or so) I wonder, can Khador jacks put out enough ranged firepower to make up for their speed? Can the army as a whole do this?

The two options that stick out are:
-Widowmaker snipers. Fragile scalpels.
-Mortar artillery. Long range bombardment.

In MkI the massed advance deploy army was popular. Widomakers, Manhunters & attached Bokors etc. would Advance Deploy and then this first wave would seek to tie up harass and destroy enemies while the big hitters made up the distance.
I don't know if this still works in MkII

The Advanced Deploy force is at least hampered by the decrease in AD distance.

I am more a Cryx player. I know Khador are tougher then most factions, but they can still be taken out afer a small debuff (reducing stats of the model/jack) fairly easy. It's just that the same debuff on another faction will make it easy, while with khador if you do not stack enough on, they are only moderately easy to kill.
For cryx it is all about trix. if you combo right with our battlebox warwitch most combat-stats are reduced by 4, while the the rest is reduced by 2 on feat turn. (feat gives you a new layer of cheese for a single round...) That means 1 of your jacks is not moving, the others are severely compromised as wel.
the thing I fear as a cryx player from khador are their manhunters and widowmakers taking out my nodes and their bombards and mortars laying into the rest of my infantry. even if they miss they will deviate and still do a lot of damage...
this might not make it easier for you to choose a faction, but pick a model you like, and go with it's faction. I think you will go cryx now
