The Emperor Class Battleship 'The Sky Ablaze'

Since I am new to Warhammer 40000, I find painting in details pointless (still need to see how good details make the game more fun), and with the Tau, I cant be bothered painting the entire army to look flashy, so I came to the conclusion, that mahap i can have a good army color wise if I spray them black, then add features (Glowing sensor eyes, rank colors, energy sources ect). This is cheaper and I can easily make a back story to support this (that's where i excel). Just getting opinions, also, anyone got a good idea on how to make a good city base for my models, city fight campaign coming up.

It makes your units look better. You could play 40k with pieces of paper and it would still be the same game, but better painted/converted/modeled armies on a good board with terrain make the game more fun.

I think that once you start messing with painting in the sensors, eyes and rank colors, you will want to do one or two other things, then you will have some idea about how you can make your models look even cooler, next thing you know you're painting them. For me, painting is more fun than the actual game play, plus, if you play against an opponent, even if he beats the hell out of you, you still have the satisfaction of knowing your models look way cooler.

Thanks, but I will wait until that happens. If i spray them, it gives me more time for playing the game, pretty much the only reason I started Warhammer 40000.

I would say this is the exact opposite of how it should be done.

But it's your money and your models man. Do with them what you wish. I wish I had the kind of disposeable income to buy a whole army and not worry if I toss it together with no forethought and it ends up looking like crap. I really do envy you. As it is I've pretty much spent a year milking 500 points of Beastmen for all the modelling/painting I can get. Because GW-Japan overcharges even more than GW-everywhere else.

The problem with not caring about how your miniatures look with Games Workshop is that they are a miniature company first, a game company second. They make some terrible blunders with rules, but they excel at top-notch miniatures and paints. There are those who would disargee with that statement about the paints, but if nothing else, their metalics and washes are unmatched.

Yes, you can paint the entire scheme with 2 coats of primer and learn to do gems and glow effects, but those are two of the hardest effects to learn. It sounds like painting isn't your strong suit, so I wouldn't pin the entire look of my army on that if I were you. Atleast learn to do highlighting, then your army goes from 'just primed' to actually painted.

You guys are all missing the point. This guy wants you to answer just so he can say things like:

I call shenanigans. If you didn't give a rat's ass about painting because "I can't see how it makes the game more fun" then why the hell are you here, in a painting and modeling forum asking for advice/tips on painting your models. Either you're full of gak and you actually do want to paint them (maybe you're afraid they won't look good? I dunno) or you're a doouchbage troll looking to get these good people riled up.

If you don't care about painting, go hang out in Discussions or YMDC.
