Would you allow it?
Yes, but don't screw it up!
Yes, but only if you do the full conversion (all of them need Powerklaws etc.)
No! This is not Warhammer in space! It's much more sophisticated.

I love Black Orcs. I never really looked at Warhammer Fantasy until Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning came out. The first trailer showed a huge, dark, green-skin covered in an unreasonable amount of armor beating down a Dwarf Slayer. Quite simply, I was hooked. I tried playing some other classes on WAR, but the Black Orc was such fiendishly fun, being able to walk through the enemy battle lines, ignoring almost anything they threw at me.

Now, I needed some heavy hitters for my 40k Orks. Nobs are cool, but I was searching through the Fantasy sets for some ideas just incase. Then it hit me. Black Orc Meganobs. It'd take some converting: fitting the shootas on there, giving the weapons some bulk, or maybe (I hope not) just going all the way and grafting on some Power Klaws. I was further driven into a frenzy when I saw the Black Orc Big Boss. Warbosses in Mega Armor are a pain to do. There is only one Warboss model in the armor, and he is a special character. This means that if you want to have a Mega Armored Boss, you need to do a full conversion, or cut apart Ghaz Skull Thraka. Not a lot of fun.

Aside from the question of whether or not its a good idea (I think it is, but I'm nuts), do you think I'd have to convert all of them to have Powerklaws? I'd like to think just big bashy bits and shootas would be enough. Given that Mega Armor comes with the Klaws and has no option to replace it, there shouldn't be a WYSIWYG problem. Invariably it'll take some conversion. I'm not going to just throw the Black Orcs onto circular bases and call it a day. So, what do you say?

Go for it! They just need whatever gear they come with CCW, shoota, ect.. shown on the model. Sounds like a fun conversion.

Mathhammer is NOT Warhammer.

err, i would say the claws would be necicary for the WYSIWYG of mega armor (otherwise it might look to much like 'evy armor and a big choppa), but the idea sounds like a good one!

many people have a tough time making the armor look more 40k era, and less WHFB, but i think it usually looks good regaurdless. black orks rock.

Probably somewhere I shouldn't be

A good idea, and something I'd definitely allow as long as the 'powerklaws' were different enough from a big choppa, so I can remember what they are meant to be - maybe especially big and brutal mechanised choppas? (add chain blades and other gubbins?)

40k: WHFB: (I want a WE Icon, dammit!)

Go for it but if this is for an actual game, 'Eavy Armor Nobs with a Pain-Boy all outfitted differently (for wound distro reasons, something Mega-Nobs cannot take advantage of) perform better then Mega Nobs, IMO.

As far as conversion, Almost all of my WIP Nobs actually have the Black Ork armored head on their 40K Nob bodies and I think they look really cool so hell yeah! There is room for cross-overs!

If it looks cool, and you can make it properly WYSIWIG without ambiguity, go for it. It's even using GW parts, so it's tournament-legal.
And not just on a technicality, like a model I saw on dakka ages ago that was an Inquisitor-scale Farseer that was technically a conversion of an old eldar lasgun with a lot of modelling putty work.

I have a squad of Mega Nobz made from Black Orcs. I used the larger round bases and armor panel bits from ork vehicle sprues to supplement their armor.
The mega armor warboss is the AOBR boss with the black orc standard top (the big iron ork head with giant horns) plus vehicle armor bitz.
Black orc blades can easily be cut and glued onto their iron gaunglets to make power klaws so they're WYSIWYG.

Just do it man. It might turn out really bad, OR could become your master piece. You wont know unless you try it

Do they scale properly? Are regular Orcs and Orks and Black Orcs and Nobs about the same size? I've never even seen a game of fantasy (back at good old Napoleons WHFB and 40k were like warring tribes. Maybe that's part of the reason Napos is now an "Irish" dance school. )

They scale close enough. Orcs are bigger than Ork Boyz but slightly smaller than Nobs and Black Orcs are slightly bigger than Nobz. I'm not having any real trouble with them.

I'll have images up on my P&M Blog at the end of the month (The Nobz with Black Orc heads) but at least one DakkaDakka member has already done this with MegaNobs. This image belongs to JHall...

I mean some variation in size would be expected, some of the boyz would have krumped more than others (but still not be nobs), especially if they were slugga boyz. Once I find a good source for sluggas (GW or very high quality aftermarket) I'll start doing this in a big way. W00t.

The lasgun scaled to a pistol for Inquisitor scale, so that was the only non-sculpted part of the model.

I'll definitely have to do this then. I'm probably going to end up just using them as Nobs though, as after that Waaagh! frenzy wore off I came to my senses. Meganobs are just bad compared to kitted out Nobs. Anywho, thanks for the input.

As long as it's clear what they have, why wouldn' I allow it?

Some clever god of plasticard (Insaniak?) has posted Klaw-making tutorials on here before, I think. They look very cool. I recommend looking them up.
