What is the trick to using Blood Red without having to put on 5,000 coats just to cover the base coat?

I know this works for yellow. Paint the area you want to paint with white. Then go with the blood red. Make sure you water down the paint so its thinner. It goes on alot smoother then normal. Good luck

Are you trying to paint it over a black undercoat?

I usually put a coat of white down first.

For Red I'd probably just do a sloppy yellow undercoat and then go red. I would however refrain from doing a white basecoat: That could make the red feel pink^^

I don't want to be human! I want to see gamma rays! I want to hear X-rays! And I want to - I want to smell dark matter! Do you see the absurdity of what I am? I can't even express these things properly because I have to conceptualize complex ideas in this stupid limiting spoken language! But I know I want to reach out with something other than these prehensile paws! And feel the wind of a supernova flowing over me! And I can know much more! I can experience so much more. But I'm trapped in this absurd body!

Maybe go from black to Scab Red then Blood Red over the top of that.

I would actually recomend a layer of red foundation paint first but thin it a little. Then paint your blood red over that. Sometimes red over white will give a splotchy first and second coat.

blood red over a black undercoat...

I'd start with a layer of the Mechrite Red foundation paint (make sure you thin this a bit though so you get even and smooth coverage). Then blood red on top of that.

You can also work up from red gore or other darker reds.

I think the coverage of Blood Red over white is awesome. Almost as good as Chaos Black (over anything).

If I paint blood red over almost any other color than white however, it almost always gets 'miscolored', because even though it's an even coat, the color below shows through (without, as you say, 5000 coats.)

FOUNDAAAAAAAAATIONS!!! USE DEM!!!

Between Foundation White and Skull White, I can get away with painting white on black primed models. I have foundation yellow, and I've never had trouble with getting yellow on black primed models. I always start with Marachrite Red for my red minis. My berserkers turn out great with that as a base. Anything else you are having trouble painting? Get the foundation color of it first.
