Plague Marines CSM army, which unit would you rather have coming out of a Land Raider

Terminators x5 with power fist x4 and 1 chainfist

OR

Terminators x5 with combi-melta x3, 1 heavy flamer, and 1 reaper autocannon

The first unit will tear things up in close combat but that's only if they don't get killed since they are all going last. If they assault a vehicle, the vehicle is toast every time.

The second unit is more jack of all trades. The power weapons will cause a lot of casualties in close combat, the meltas will probably dispatch one vehicle, and the heavy flamer/autocannon will knock a few things out before combat begins.

For background, the rest of the army is Daemon Princes, Plague Marines w/ Melta, and Obliterators.

So, which unit would you field?

I would probably field:

Terminators x5 with combi-melta x3, 1 power fist and 1 chainfist.

Going with either extreme isn't a good idea. You won't get to swing with all of those I1 powerfists, but you want at least 1 to take care of MCs, ICs, and walkers.

The reaper is a terrible weapon, it costs as much as 5 combi-meltas. Plus, you're in a Land Raider anyways, you're not going to need any of it's range.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

Terminators x 5, 3 Combi-Melta, 1 Powerfist, 1 Chainfist and a Heavy Flamer. The flamer is too cheap to pass up. So take it.

Our Terminators can also abuse wound allocation, so take advantage of that. They should look like this:

Combi-melta 35
Champ, Combi-melta 45
Powerfist, Combi-Melta 45
Heavy Flamer 35
Chainfist 45

Now you don't have to lose extra models when you could have dumped the low AP shots on a single model, you dig? If they take extra bolter wounds, slap those on the more expensive stuff and let the cheaper stuff (or spent combi-melts) take the shots sure to kill them.

Thanks for the insight. I will tweak the unit to encompass both ideas.

Any other thoughts?

Berserkers. They compliment PM's well, and are cheaper than Terminators, and with their sickening number of attacks on the charge (at WS5 I5 S5) will clean up pretty much anything you set them against. Chaos has plenty of other, more points viable options for long range shooty, if that's what your army needs.

if your going the termy route, then i would go for twin claws all round. seriously hard! jump into combat and park the raider in a way that best protects them from being left in the open when you defeat your foe....

Wound allocation? They all only have one wound, so whats it matter?

The last sentence there. You see, if you take 2 Plasma wounds and 10 Bolters, you can spread the 2 Plasmas on one guy, and the Bolters on the rest. Otherwise, you'd take 2 5+ tests, probably fail both and lose 2 guys. Now, you fail both and you lose one guy. See?

Oh okay, I didn't know that. Thanks for the clarification, I will keep that in mind.
