It uses no Template, it'd be a str D AP1 solid shot..... I know way too much about physics and shaped charges for my own good.

Except the shell isnt a shaped charge, its a APFSDS (Armor Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot), though they do carry HE rounds which would be a Blast Templet of some sort.

They also carry HEAT rounds... And have the option to carry HESH... not sure if anybody still uses HESH though. Though I think the newer versions are using Tandem Heat rounds to get around the reactive armor. HEAT rounds penetrate more and do more damage inside but APFSDS fear nothing have a limited abiltiy to ignore reactive armor (the newer version at least). Basically APFSDS will hit even if the target has reactive armor and active counter measures but HEAT has a higher chance of killing the target. But heat even the tandem ones have to worry about the active countermeasures systems on the market... Thank god the russians didn't develope those for their T72's that went to export.

APFSDS also doesn't have to worry about cage armor.... the little embarrassing secret to shaped charges is their vulnerability to cage armor...

I think Commonwealth forces still use some HESH in tank guns. ... What's really scary is HESH shotgun slugs. Them and fireflys.

Yes I'm aware, my father was a Gunner on the M1A1 Abrams MBT and modern HEAT rounds are primarily used against Light Armor (IFVs,APCs and the like) and Outdated Tanks (T-64s, 62s, 54/55s and some un-updated 72's) Should they feel like using HEAT against them, but most of the time for most of those models they wouldd..
