Subject: Iron Warriors - Siegebreakers - Planetstrike list 2,000 points
|

Tower of Power

Iron Warriors makes so much sense to be attacking, here's a possible list I came up with:
Iron Warriors - Siegebreakers - 2,000 points
HQ
1 x Daemon Prince - wings, mark of Nurgle & Wind of Chaos
1 x Daemon Prince - wings, mark of Nurgle & Wind of Chaos
Elite
5 x Terminators - mark of tzeentch, 2 x chain fists, 1 x heavy flamer & 4 x combi weapons
5 x Terminators - mark of tzeentch, 2 x chain fists, 1 x heavy flamer & 4 x combi weapons
5 x Terminators - mark of tzeentch, 2 x chain fists, 1 x heavy flamer & 4 x combi weapons
5 x Terminators - mark of tzeentch, 2 x chain fists, 1 x heavy flamer & 4 x combi weapons
1 x Dreadnought - multimelta, heavy flamer & extra armour
1 x Dreadnought - multimelta, heavy flamer & extra armour
Heavy Support
Vindicator - daemonic possession
Vindicator - daemonic possession
Vindicator - daemonic possession
total 1995
Ok lets go over the list. Princes have mark of nurgle so that little bit tougher, math hammers shows increased toughness is better than lower invulnerable save as you've got to wound to start of with. As units will be in cover, or in bunkers wind of chaos is the power I'm using as it allows no cover saves and the power allows no armour saves on a 4+. Vehicles also suffer a glancing hit, plus as with template rules anything in a bunker or bastion suffers D6 wounds instead! . Given them wings too so they can deep strike in, a monstrous creature deep striking firing a template which allows now saves and can glance vehicles and can assault after - yes please!
Terminators are the flavour of elites mostly, with a low save they will survive most incoming fire and as they have the deep strike rule can assault after. Each unit has two chain fists which will bring those bastions down. I haven't chosen which combi weapons yet, but most likely be a mix of meltas and flamers for taking down bastions and units inside them.
Chaos Dreads will support the incoming Vindicators. Three strength 10 large blasts will take down stuff easily, and once the dreads are in range they can go to town with multimeltas and BBQ any units inside a bastion

Looks very good.
However, you need to be careful with the deployment of the Dreads as they carry multimeltas and thus can threaten your Vindicators.

If I field a Chaos Dread, I normally roll 1 in first turn so that this guy shoots one of my units.
Don't place the Vindicators too close to them.

I don't see the marks as of support for the chaos gods, I just use them to make models perform better in game. Is it in with the background? No. Do models perform better in game with marks? Yes, definately.

If you are going to make an Iron Warrior army, taking daemon princes or any icons at all are stretching the concept. If I remember correctly, the Iron Warriors believed they didn't need the gods to be strong, but you are playing planet strike, so who cares go nuts. The list looks fine.

I suppose in principle countsas may work ( MoN being bionics for the extra T and MoT being some other IW crap to represent its rules) but the list in itself is pretty damn unfluffy

Because they are Iron Warrior scheme. The marks I don't count as alliances to particular gods, they are just a benefit in game. Your shooting yourself in the foot if you do not take some of them.
Your example is complete opposite and very poor, playing Nob Bikers and pretending they Necrons is taking a entire different army and Necrons don't even have biker options. Saying usnig Nob Bikers counts as Necrons is just rubbish talk. A better example would be taking mark of Slannesh and saying are Nurgle troops.
If you are going to make an Iron Warrior army, taking daemon princes or any icons at all are stretching the concept. If I remember correctly, the Iron Warriors believed they didn't need the gods to be strong, but you are playing planet strike, so who cares go nuts. The list looks fine.
I've already clearly explained why I'm taking marks - game benefit, not about foot. I'm not going to cut my nose off to spite my face when some marks have benefit. I'd rather have a better game than suffer looses due to sticking to the fluff.
Corpsesarefun, see above.
Darkhound, see above also. HMBC points is a very poor example. I understand what people are playing, but I'd rather have a better game than sticking to the background on models. Your just shooting yourself in the foot when you can have that better invulnerable save when going against a brood of 10 Genestealers.

Lord-Loss wrote:Apart from the paintjob, which is the only thing that bloody matters in this dex.
Unfortunately with the Chaos codex that is the case. If you want models to perform better then you need marks. As I keep saying, but obivously not getting my point over, why should I not take marks that make my models survive better in a game just to stick to the background? They are still painted as Iron Warriors, still look like Iron Warriors and perform better in game compared to a T5 D.P or Terminators with a 4+ invulnerable save.
Is it unfluffy, yes it is, I've already said that. Do I get a better quality game and models stay on the table longer, definately! . At the end of the day I don't really see what it has got to do with any one what marks I take, if I want to take said marks than I will, my models will stay on the table longer. All marks could possibly count as bionics or reinforced terminator armour from the forges of Olympia!
Example my terminators got charged by genestealers, they got killed because of the rending wounds and failed the 5+ invulnerable save. If I had a 4+ invulnerable save a few more of my terminators might have survived. I have the option of taking that "wargear" why should I not take it to say "oh cannot do that goes with the fluff" - called being tactical

The iron warriors have developed a stronger Force Field to protect termies --> MoT The daemon princes are made of machine parts ergo they are tougher and wind of chaos is a super flamer Creativity. With the chaos codex now you'll be killing yourself to try and make a serious fluffy IW army. If it is even possible. Army looks fine.

Leave him alone. Obviously, you weren't here for the previous codex, where Iron Warriors were Iron Warriors, not Generic Spiky Space Marines Gone Bad. Some people care about the fluff, and winning isn't everything.
I personally find *your* point of view VERY ANAL.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

Excellent attacker list...
Good tarpit kill, hard to kill off, potential first turn chargers (take forward observers!)
and this is quite iron warriors.
They aren't thousand sons terminators. A guy is just carrying a banner with a tzeentch symbol on it. The night before the attack they all got together and said a little prayer to the lord of change before the fight.
And the demon princes aren't death guard, they don't have feel no pain. They just have the "mark" of nurgle. That could come in the form of a triple circle shaped welt on their forearm.
Let the 'bland legions' go.

It seems like some people haven't read the iron warriors fluff. The primarch of the iron warriors, perturabo, is a daemon prince of chaos undivided. So saying iron warriors would absolutely not be able to take daemon princes is a pretty ignorant statement.
Another interesting quote about IWs : "The first Obliterators witnessed amongst Chaos forces were amongst the Iron Warriors and, on rare occasions, Iron Warriors have manifested the ability to 'morph' weapons, although with nothing like the versatility of true Obliterators"
Iron warriors are not some pure geneseed legion that just likes mechanical things. They are just as mutated and enthralled by chaos and the power it grants as any other chaos legion. They do not worship any one god , but you don't need to in order to worship chaos itself and reap the benefits (and the penalties).
