I just read Slaves of Darkness and came across the description of a Sensei and his warband!

What would be the best proxy army for a Sensei army in 40k?

I am thinking Space Wolves because of the Herohammer nature of the codex...

Excellent, update the old school.

Not sure what you could "counts as" for the sensei . I'll chat to woobis and see if he has any good ideas as he is building a Sensei force for RT and they're a passion of his. Without knowing all the codices (I'm relatively new to 5th) I'd be tempted to look at Witch Hunters or Inquisition as these have always struck me as more elite characterful warbands/parties than armies as such and I feel this approach may work better and suit the background more. Any 5th'ers out there got an opinion? What sort of points value are you looking to go to?

That said space puppies are quite pokey and flavourful now.......

If you want a more "Heroic" scale Sensei army, Space Wolves would be good, if you want one that has a few Heroic elements and the rest more "Human" scale, I would suggest IG or Daemonhunters with allied IG.

I guess the issue is that the Sensei character should be pretty damn killy on his own.

The Fluff seems to suggest that these guys are at least SM Captain / Chaos Lord level and those which are close the Apotheosis, a DP or even Greater GD level!!

Looking at SW, I can get the killiness of the Sensei character about right. But then the warband starts to lack colour - which is where the DH or WH codex shines!

It might be that the Sensei will have to be a GK with inquisitors plus warbands being his cadre. What do you guys think?

Or a left field idea might ACTUALLY be a warband that has been entirely apotheosised - mebbe Chaos daemons? (the heresy!)

Sensei have to be possessed by a GD and un-possesse themselves be able to join (I think)

Njal would make a great count as Sensei!
