Well, alot of you have seen my other thread, and I am making an army that has alot of dreads. Well, I was wondering about Librarians that are wounded to the point of Dreadification. Do they retain their power? Also, can a chapter master become a Dread or does another marine take his place?

If I had a dollar for every dollar I spent I'd have all my money back.

That is some related reading. In short, no, Librarians tend not retain their power in Dreadnoughts. Chapter Masters can become [Venerable] Dreadnoughts, but they don't retain their status.

Dreads dont keep their commanding status, just respect. But in the new Space Wolves Codex, Bjorn the Fell-Handed (the oldest dread in the Imperium) was the first Great Wolf (Chapter Master) after Russ left. He was put into a Dread and someone else took over, but one time a chaos fleet attacked the SW homeworld while the Great Wolf was gone, and Bjorn then was in command of the defense, but thats a VERY rare exception. Dreads need to sleep the years away, and they get harder and harder to awaken.

Several of the Iron Hands Clans are lead by Dreadnoughts. It seems conceivable that a Chapter could be lead by one, especially an Iron Hands successor.
