Stalwart Dark Angels Space Marine
|
Though I have been playing 40k for two years now I have not found an army that I want to play with seriously. I have Tau, Necrons, Dark Angels, and Space Marines, but I only have the HQ and 2 troops for each of these. The problem lies with the fact that 2 to 3 hours after buying the codex and basic requirments for an army I find that another army is more to my liking. I have played small skirmishes with all of these armies but my budget cannot handle any more of these purchases on a monthly basis. What do you guys think I should stick with from the armies listed above?

I would suggest going dark angels, you can convert your space marines into them so that gives you 2 HQ and 4 Troops. Good start, also dark eldar models are probably going to change soon, so no sense in starting them now. As for necrons, No, just NO. Necrons irritate the hell out of me, no character, no fluff possibilities, and most of all, they have so few choices. Also space amrines are GREAT for new players.

I would have to agree with despoiler you might want to stick with DA and convert your SM to DA so that way you get more of a feel for them. Then throw in some termies for some real fun. Once you build up a good sized army you have no choice to stick with them or you could sell/trade for another army.

I wouldn't play DA. They're Space Marines with worse equipment for more points. Unless you're playing Deathwing or Dualwing, skip em and go straight to Space Marines. You could, however, still have an army painted and modeled like Dark Angels and use the regular Marines codex.
A lot of people have army ADD. Sometimes it just takes a while to get a good fit.

I have the same problem. I have a couple of large-ish armies, but a lot of my models are still in boxes, completely untouched.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

So I can have regular space marines with the DA robes. Seeing how that's what caught my eye about them to begin with I guess I will be going with space marines with DA models. I actually had fluff for my own space marine chapter. Can I use a space marine Independant character from another chapter?

With counts-as anything is possible! Lysander, Captain of the Death Wing! (Which is really not a bad idea now that I think about it.)

Yes, I've had a similar case of AADD (except mine was switching between different Chaos gods...I finally settled on Khorne).
If you're anything like me, you're just going to have to play around and try to get a feel for what army's playing strategy/fluff/models appeals to you the most.
I say you should play Dark Angels using the normal SM codex. Or you could always betray those Imperial Dogs and fight FOR CHAOS!!!

I considered a chaos army, which is why I asked for help in making me choose one army that I already had. And on another note, does any one know where I can find a scythe for my HQ? The ones in the fantasy zombie box are not very impressive.

Fantasy emerald wizard, chop the foliage if you dislike it, or chop one off a dollar store death toy.

Typhus has a pretty cool looking one, if you're willing to do a little conversion work.
