Hi all,

I am debating about starting a small army conversion project. The fluff behind the dark angels split tickles my fancy and I want to do The Fallen as chaos army. Right now I have a couple squads of dark angels and some unassembled veterans in robes, this combined with my chaos bits bucket got the creative juices flowing.

My question is, does anyone know any sources for paint schemes, pictures, or want to throw in 2 cents on mod ideas?

I want to do a mostly robed army (black robes, green armor?) but im thinking chaos backpack, and chaos arms/shoulder pads.

Welcome to 2007, friend!

Joking aside, back when the DA codex came out these were really common armies, given how awesome the DA vets kit is. I say you've pretty much got it down - Chaos arms and backpacks with Dark Angels torsos is a good look, and a lot of people use it for their chosen.

When it comes to color schemes, you could try doing them pre-heresy style. Half the Dark Angels turned against the Imperium then, so black armor makes sense. You could contrast this with deep green robes.

hehe yeah i know i'm behind the times on this one... but that's what really surprises me, dakka doesn't seem to have anything on the fallen in the gallery and overall google is disappointing me to.

Yeah, the Dark Angels' sprue is amazing. The only issue I have with an army of Fallen Angels is where they get the regular infantry. A band of well equiped Chaos Chosen makes sense for the Dark Angels, and it works really well as an auxillary force to a more organized army.

If you can explain how the Fallen Angels muster together in such a large number, I'd love to hear it.

It also might be worth picking up a few packs of these for your marines:

And I would also buy Cypher and use him as a Chaos Lord (maybe write up some Homebrew rules or make him a count-as).

What I love about the Fallen is that you don't have to make them chaos. In the DA codex it says that half of the chapter turned on Lion, not the Emperor. Chaos makes sense for an army choice but without any Fallen fluff we don't know if they turned to chaos or if they are seeking redemption from the emperor. Though chaos bits on a Fallen army makes sense because they wore the same armour as the traitor legions with a black and gold colour scheme and white robes.

Black armour with white robes, including terminators, as others have said. I would try and search e-bay for old style vehicles as well to add to the flavour of the army (I have a unit with an original Rhino for my Red Corsairs army).

Pre-Heresy DA wore black armour.

IIRC pre-heresy DA was Black armor with Black Robes for everyone. Green Armor was used post-heresy and the white/bone robes/armor were used after a terminator squad saved a recruiting world from genestealers.

In one of the old DA codices it states that the half of the legion went with El'Jonson to defend Terra and the other half were left on Caliban with Luthor turned against the Lion.

I've used CSM, SM, and DA rules to represent them at different times. The army started life as a DA army, but the daemonic and chaos elements definitely add more variety and visual appeal.

Ah a topic I can really help on!

If you want to play 3 different armies for cheap (money wise), like Mannahnin and I do, dark angels are the best way to go.

I did mine in all green armor with dark red robes (no tactical without robes is my personal touch) and stuck with the deathwing and ravenwing colors as well.

When playing as my Fallen, I have a few units that share the color scheme but are chaos only units, like some converted 1k sons, oblits, and my still-in-progress daemon prince (a nightbringer with Pegasus wings and a sword).

But as others have said, if you want to do the true Fallen and only the Fallen, black armor with white robes is the norm, along with very minimal chaos iconography.
Using parts from the ravenwing and deathwing sets will also help you add some character to the chaos termies and bikes if you take them. And scratching out any Imperial icons will add that special touch. Dont do it to the DA icons though, remember these guys where brothers together before they split. They are mad not at their order and its history per say, but the leaders of their order and the Imperium.

The two HH books on the Dark Angels, Decent of Angels and Fallen Angels, is a good way to get an idea of a back story as well. Once I was done with those books ideas just came flowing out.

If you need any more help feel free to ask.
