Any suggestions? I was thinking of getting a tackle box and filling it with toilet paper for cushioning.
Is that a good idea ? Please and thank you.

Or fluffy towel works as well. I approve of random box + towel!

For the longest time I used bead boxes, they are great for infentry, and shoe boxes for tanks.

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

Step #1 you cut a hole in the box.
Step #2 you put your junk in the box.

Define "not a lot of money".

The old standbuy is a shotgun case, but that gets you a lot of stange looks at the mall.

the GW small plastic case costs that much, and can hold ~100 minis.... not a bad buy. if you play marines, you could squeeze 6 rhino chassis vehicles, 5 terminators, and ~50 tac marines into it.

Don't get the GW cases, the foam sucks and rips, and it doesn't protect minis well. I just say get a random box and some insulation foam, and cut all the stuff out.

Altough, if you ARE willing to spend some money, Battlefoam is great.

While Battlefoam does offer the highest quality IMO it does not fall into the inexpensive catagory specified by the OP. My BF cases ended up costing about as much as the army they hold.

As it has been stated gun cases offer good protection for low cost. When I started out in the hobby I used tackle boxes.

My friend also made me a case that consisted of half inch thick foam boards with cut toilet paper roles glued onto it. They stacked on top of each other in a large tupperware type container.

Umm , actually i have been serious all along , that IS how i wrap my armies , never a broken one from it.
And there is actually a better and cheaper alternative guys.

Magnetize your mini's bases , and just plop them onto a metal case.
They'll never bump or scrap and its convenient.

All I use is the GW cases and I've never had problems like this with them. The only time the foam rips for me, is when I rip it to fit oddly shaped figs into it. I'm getting another of their cases next week in fact.

There is actually a tutorial on how to make your own. I think you might be able to make it work in your price range.

I bought a bunch of toolboxes from B&Q (a UK hardware store). They are all compartmentalised and all I did was line the compartments with toilet paper, foam and bubble wrap and they do the trick. As noted above, you can be even more impressive by buying some of the metal tool boxes and magnetising bases so they can be stuck down easily.

The magnatized based idea is a good idea... BUT look at how much that many small magnets would cost. o.o

I use a gun case for my infintry, and store my tanks in the box that the sprew came in. very convenient, and the boxes can always be used to make terrain when you get your battlefoam/alternative case/cases.

+1 for shotgun or rifle cases. They are quite cheap, and double as deployment trays in most cases. That being said, it certainly does get you some strange looks and it will raise questions.

Cheap pistol boxes from Walmart/Academy are perfect and run you about $10.

you could also get one of those plastic storage bins and a lot of egg-crate foam, what you do is get soem carboard and glue it to the foam for stiffness, then you put a single sided piece on the bottom, then reapeat with double sided pieces till you get to the desired/needed height and end with a single sided piece again, this will get you a lot of storage for pretty cheap and it will look decent as well.

You may use anything I post, just remember to give me credit if used somewhere else.

Rifel cases work great I have one for all my tanks 2 razorbacks 2 preditors 1 imulator 3 rhinos 9 land speeders and 3 dreadnoughts all fit in one case with a little room for some Terminators and the rest of my army goes into another case!

You don't need fancy metal boxes or foam, really. Go to your local fabric/hobby store (JoAnn's, for example, which is where I go) and look for thread cases. They're made of plastic and are compartmentalized to hold thread. Each compartment will hold 2-3 models (Depending on size) and unless you drop it on the ground from chest height, they won't break. And if you do want some extra padding, just throw in some cotton balls or toilet paper into each compartment. JoAnn's even sells these nifty big plastic containers that can hold about eight tanks (Again, depending on size) with a handle on top to carry them all. Just layer them in groups of two, with a piece of foam or something similar between each layer, and it's perfect for storage.

Pistol and rifle cases are fantastic value - especially if you live in the US.

Rifle cases will take rhino-based vehicles nicely (I get 16 in a double rifle case) but land raiders and leman russes are too tall.
