The Minis and Scenery website appears to be down and there have been reports of delays in delivery on their products. I am attempting to contact them to determine the source of their website outage.

Good luck guys, really. I hope you get your money back or some of it.

I didn't think FW supplied trade so as sad as it is for those caught up in this it should serve to remind us that we need to check things out before ordering.

Buyer Beware.

Well, PayPal should be able to help us, no?

Ok, PayPal lists that my complaint is in the "Contact the Seller" phase. It says that if not contact is received within 10 days, they just refund my money. Sweet.

If he closed his account, they can't get any money out of him. And PayPal sure as **** won't reimburse you out of their own pockets.

yeah... not really. if he's emptied his account you'll get the dreaded "we were able to recover $0.00 of your original payment" message. they won't reimburse you out of the goodness of their ebay-owned hearts.

Words of truth.

I really despise paypal. I have been scammed on ebay by a seller not sending the goods.

What I got?

Nothing for my troubles. I should have ate the loss instead of spending all that time trying to get my money back.

He emptied then closed his account. I did get a message saying that if the account was reopened and money deposited that I would get it, but we all know that is about as likely to happen as GW making nice with their consumer base.

Hellfury: That sucks, totally sucks. So they don't refund you unless they can get the money off the actual person, what type of gaurentee is that.

Hence use credit cards!!!
You can file a goods not recieved and just get the money back.

The alternative would leave Paypal itself open to being scammed out of said money by two users working in collusion. In classic capitalist fashion, the company's prime directive is to protect itself first. It could not exist any other way, it's just the way of things.

This is why I either accept each purchase as a wager that I may or may not see return on, or deal with well-established sellers with years of history of successful sales (i.e. the kind of sellers likely to have more to gain from continuing their business as usual rather than scamming me out of £15 and then having to re-deploy their operation under another name). I don't like it, but humans being as they are, there's no other way.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

As much as this may be horrible to hear/deal with, this is VERY sound advice.

I'm currently trying to get either my money back or the actual item I commissioned from someone over on another website.

I'm certainly realistic enough to figure that this in fact may end up being one of those times when I lose this particular 'wager'.

Still, your best bet is dealing with WELL established players (and a nice-ish website is not proof of that!).

And that old "If it sounds too good to be true" thing often rears its head on the Internet too...

Yeah,
I wouldn't be so sure, there is still hope.
I've filed two complaints with PayPal with eBay items.
In both cases PayPal refunded most or all of the money.
In both cases the eBay user status had changed to 'no longer registered'

  • dodgy cd drive I lost £72 PayPal refunded £57 they deducted a £15 admin charge?
  • Storage boxes, Goods not Recieved I lost £42 paypal refunded the full £42

  • Aduro wrote:So what's the point of PayPal then?

I agree, they offer buyer protection, the last thing they want is forums flooded with PayPal don't refund if you got scammed type messages!

Sorry if I am pointing out the Bleedin' obvious especially to you guys that are in the middle of this but ONLY EVER USE A CREDIT CARD ONLINE! Always research a website even if recomended by a trusted source, people make mistakes and scammers can put a few trades through to rustle up trade!

If something is too good to be true, then it probably is!

Sorry to shout but Paypal [sorry panic I have found them to be cr@p] as pointed out is no protection at all IMO. I appreciate that some can not get credit cards but you really shouldn't buy online without one. If you dont have one you should get someone who has to order it for you and pay them. A hassle but a much safer option.

I haven't used Paypal for about 3 years because of a problem website and this was after following my own advice! I ordered a Video Game from a UK site, paypal took my money and I never received said game, paypal wasted a couple of weeks with no result (I was unaware at the time what a toothless lot they are), one call to my credit card company and they had extracted their money (it wasn't mine after all!) from either PP or the seller and my account was back to zero balance - all within 24 hours.

Also for thoe that dont know domain names can be created from outside of the country you would logically think they are from. There has been allot of news coverage in the UK recently about the number of scamming site being created all over the world using .co.uk. So you can not even take that for granted either.

Be careful with your cash Dakka, there are no shortage of Bandits out there!

Using Paypal carries the risk of losing the value of a specific purchase.

Using a Credit Card directly carries the risk of losing as much as is your card limit unless you have a really cool bank.

No, you are covered for against fraud and identity theft as well a having your purchases insured for 90 days.

As I say it is the Credit Card providers money until such time as you pay your balance. It's great, one of the few times in life where you have a big corporate entity fighting your side. Complain and then watch as they chase down defaulters like rabid dogs, as we all will know if you ever miss a payment!

Of course there may be differances outside the EU?
