It appears that the January issue of white dwarf has some interesting news on the back.
Plastic fellbeasts in February.
Its been sighted before, the pic of the knight of umbar perched atop a fellbeast was the plastic job.
I have to say that its really out of the blue. Not that LotR is so popular that rumours would abound, but if any rumours about it were to be had, you know model converters for different games would be on the alert to this being made plastic.
Regardless, its confirmed by GW at least.

Good point on the WFB uses too- I think they make much better wyverns than the Fantasy ones.

From what I see, the plastic LotR is identical to the metal LotR - see the FotR, MoM, Balrog motels for example.

My money is on an identical sculpt and price to the metal ones(s)M there may be some extra gubbins (choice of ridr). In other words .... Yawn!

Yeah, scryer in the darkness at warseer said this was the price code:
99121466005 (plastic box set) £35.00 / US$??.?? / 50,00 € / Oz$96.00
Which means its staying at the same price, at least in the UK.
If its $50 or above here in the states, unless I can build any of the nine along with all options for them, they can keep the kit.
Even then....its hard to justify, but I guess its easier to justify than the current vanilla fellbeast.

hmm see the article here.
So... I'm wondering if this, or more pertinently work on any sequels, might well be behind the recent tightening up with regards to leaks, rumours and so forth. If New Line/EVIL HOLLYWOOD lawyers had been involved and said to GW "Your IP protection sucks, your stuff is all over the place and you leak info like a drunk, there's no way we can send you as yet unseen Hobbit clips and artwork for you to use" then the recent clampdown might be exlained as well. Perhaps.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

Meh. Its the theatrical release...for the lose.
As for GW sneakiness, I recall following GW's initial forays into LotR quite closely, and from what I recall there was an extremely strict security measure in place surrounding New Line stuff released to them to create models with. I have no idea about recent activity, but if their past handling of the Tolkien IP regarding the films was any indication, if I was New Line I wouldn't have a problem doing so again.

Indeed there was, including a guard posted on the door to the area where design work was done for the release was done, and all sorts of legal and financial penalties for leaked info and the like.

Sounds like that will be $50-$57.75 in the US. Well at least it won't require drilling and pins and it won't weigh 5 pounds and be difficult to keep the paint on it.

yeah,
But when you have a non gamer show a interest in your models and you place a dreadnought in their hands so the can have a good look. which do you think makes the better impression:
*The light plastic feels like a toy dread.
Or
*The metal 'I wasn't expecting it to weigh this much, is it expensive?' metal dread.
Panic...

Depends. Is it a kid or an adult?
If it's a kid, plastic.
If it's an adult, I'd rather show them one of my superior quality resin dreads.
