Hey guys, im new to the dakka dakka forum and was wandering if any guys could help me with something i plan on doing. I wanna change my tau (old army) into more ork models for my uge waaaagh!.

The models i currently have are:

24 fire warriors
devilfish
hammerhead
3 stealth suits
12 kroot
2 pathfinders
7-8 gun drones
ethereal

Any advice would be appreciated, and i do have spare old ork bits. i.e arms, heads, bodys, guns etc etc.

The Firewarriors/Stealthsuits/Pathfinders could be Slaves. The Kroot might be respected enough by the Orks that they allow them into the Waaaagh as slugga-boyz Otherwise, the easiest solution would be to buy ABOR and just sell the Space Marines on EBay

Swap them with someone for orks.

The infantry might not really work.However, the Devilfish and the Hammerhead could be looted battle wagons...

I was roughly thinking that if i add some guns and shoulder pads, arms and heads, the 3 stealthsuits could be mega armoured nobz (with klaws etc)

the kroot could be merceneries following the kroot merceries codex

the devilfish and hammerhead could be looted wagons

the gundrones i could maybe put onto ork vehicles as decorations, i dunno lol

fire warriors and pathfinders, could maybe give them shootas, make them be my little bitches haha and ethereal well convert to a warphead somehow lmao

Want to see, tau + orks are the only way I can possibly stand Tau in any way, in-fact, my wazdakka will either have a thunderfire cannon on the bike (how is $41 dollars justifiable for one techmarine and a barrel with four holes in it?) or a Railgun/Ion Cannon

I'm currently taking some gun drone bitz and going to dremel out enough to make them hats for a squad of orks and call them my Flashgitzs squad.....

The vehicles would be looted. Thats not any problem at all. The stealth suits MAYBE if they were converted heavily enough. But FW as boyz is more then laughable. Even as slaves. Orks use slaves to build things and do gak work, not fight. Orks fight.
And FW would NEVER EVER be looked at in a " well they liked them enough to give them shootas" They are weak and will be killed. Plain and simple.
Id say, trade/sell your Tau, and buy real Orks instead of trying to cobble together a counts as Ork army.

I think they would be really sneeky like lol

So you'd give them huge BEEFCAKE torsos, arms, and heads, but scrawny little chicken legs?

I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but honestly, I think that would be the ugliest looking thing I'd ever see.

Just get the AOBR box, sell the Marines, and use the money from them to buy more Orky goods. Again, you could have boyz using Tau as slave meatshields (Having boyz holding Firewarriors in front of them by their heads or arms to stop bullets would be quite hilarious)

But otherwise, the only two things I can see working in your Ork army are looted tanks and a small band of Kroot mercs that use the Slugga Boys profile. The Drones might make good shoulder pads/hats for some of the Boyz or a Codpiece for a Nob.

I understand the idea you're trying to do, but, that would take a lot of conversion and a lot of green stuff I'm thinking. But, if you could somehow pull it off, I personally think it would be a really unique flavor to your army.

Honestly though, the best way to get started would be to just get the AoBR, and sell the marines like everyone else is saying. Make your Tau Heavy Support looted, and experiment with some ork bitz with the tau guys.

I personally think an Ork in a XV8 Battlesuit would be badass.

Meh, cool idea, but I have no idea how someone can pull it off.

Some random thoughts...

Fire warriors as grotz - that way you could push the slaves forward as a legitimate meat shield. You could argue reduced toughness on how well they are being treated (ie not), and grot blastas and no armour due to the Orks having looted prized bits of their armour and rifles...

After being on the receiving end of stealth suits, those guns would make good big shootas...

I'm building a Dark Angels influenced Ork army, and am planning to mix in space marine tank parts into my trukks (I figure one tank between three trukks) - you could do similarly for your vehicles (not everything has to be a looted vehicle - some can be Ork vehicles with looted parts!)

I'm not intimately acquainted with the Tau models - so thats about it for me. I would certainly give it a try with a model or two - enough to work out whether it will actually work and/or you are happy with the result.

Sparked an idea. Take the empty arm from a shoota boy, flip the hand palm-down, and have him holing up a fire warrior, palming his head. Give him a slugga with a stabby bit added on for his other arm. Count him as an 'ard boy with slugga/choppa. If anyone asks where his armor is, point to the bullet holes you drilled into the fire warrior. If they ask where his choppa is, point to the bayonet-like stabby bit you added to his slugga.

It'd be hilarious (but very hard to do) if you made a squad of Ork Kommandos struggling to put on ill fitting FW armor, such as one trying to shove his monstrous head into a FW helmet.

I can see how to convert the steath suits and the tanks, but fire warriors!!?? Good luck.

Ok guys, i thought of an idea for using my gun drones. I have got some of the old 2ed imperial guard weapons platforms with the lascannons. I was gonna use the gun drones as wheels for the cannons and then i would have my own big gunz platforms.

What ya think ??

I think you should have grots riding on the drones and treat them as storm boys

You could use the FW as grots or a meat shield. But that is all. I ahve to agree that Orks do not use slaves for fighting but for building. Loot the vehicles but please before you cut up or glue one thing please really thing this through for a long time. If you have not done much or any converting before then don't attempt to loot Tau. It is very hard to loot Tau with Orks since Tau has a rounded vehicles and armor and Orks are flat and blocky. Unless done really well it will look like !

Yep! have some of them hanging beneath the drones screaming for their life or
have some spinning upside down with a swirl of smoke trail behind them .

the underneath idea is brilliant! can so picture this squad going together. so tempted to go out n buy some drons and grots and do this myself... than again of got a heap of guard to buy so i better not =(

OOOO! not only could you have a grot underneath but you could have a grot that has thrown a lasso around a drone and then being dragged along for a ride.

This is what immediatly came to mind for me as well.
Firewarriors are shooty as Feth, Grots have the best (I think) Ork BS, there ya go, add in the Ork Slave Master for effect and you're done!

The only problem I see with this idea is:
How do you paint a black-eye and bruises on blue-skinned fishmen?

The only problem with the grot/drone idea is that unless you are good with green stuff there is not very many arms or hands that can grip the drone. There is one in the Stormboyz kit and I think one on the Stompa Kit.

If the drones weren't so small, I'd say to put a squad leader on top of one, make it obviously broken and have three fw carrying it around, chained to it. Wouldn't add any more units to your army, but could look pretty cool if you pull it off nicely. There are even kneeling fw legs that could be used.

I don't know the Tau models very well, are all the drones equally tiny?

About somehow converting the fw to orcs, I think you'd have trouble getting the proportions right. I mean, the fw torso would have to be bulked up so much that you might as well have had a chunk of sprue in there instead. I suppose you could cut the torso apart and, with some extremely good sculpting work, make it appear that the orc is wearing the fw armor somehow, but if you can sculpt that well, it would be easier to take an orc torso and sculpt the looted armor on it. =p

Mind you, it's a very original idea, which is what drew my attention, but I agree with what people have said. It is a job that will be hard to pull of, since I get the impression that you're not just looking to use some bitz to enhance the flavor of the army, you actually want to convert the fw into orcs. Am I understanding that correctly?

@ Pipboy101 - what if you used pieces from the warhammer gnoblar fighters kit from orge kingdoms. im unfamiliar with what the spur contains but from the pics of the complete gnoblars i think its managable with little skill.

The gnoblar might work, but that is still a lot of work and money for a few models funny as they may be.
