yowzah...

A buddy of mine just passed along some gaunts and stealers from the macragge set, which I'm taking as a sign to start a nids army.

This bears signs of codex creep for sure though. Tervigon's allowing a Move+Shoot+Fleet is pretty sick. And I though eldar jetbikes were good at the JSJ thing...

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

This all makes me that much more frustrated that I can't settle on a paint scheme. Perhaps I'll paint them blindfolded and just accept whatever happens. I see half of the Trygons that are sold being parted out, and lots of the plastic Balrog wings being sold. Thanks for transferring all that over, I really hate Warpshadow's color scheme.

So barring the zoanthropes shooting attack which is short range and the Tyranofex cannon, how are nids supposed to take out tank heavy armies?
Wasnt this one of the main problems with them 4th ed?
Am I missing something?

On the back of a hog.

I don't see why you people are so excited. My nid army I've been playing for years is now nerfed fairly hard. Point costs have been jacked up across the board, we still have no reliable ranged AT, just a bunch of shiny crap to appease the masses.

I mean come on... DOUBLE the price on carnis? A point cost increase is fine, but that's just stupid. Wings cost as much as a predator? In 5th edition mech is king, and we still can't kill tanks. Wow we can reroll misses with talons (maybe). What if they work like preffered enamy and you can't use them on vehicles? And even if they do, you still have to advance across the board with your WAY overpriced carni. Unless you pay even more points for a pod to eventually come in and then get blown away with your non-upgradeable 3+ sv.

So your trygon arrives, gets shot at, pops one or two tanks, then dies. So your hormaguants can take poison. How much does it cost? If the trend of this codex has anything to say on the matter, I bet its too much. Not to mention they're slower. And so are guants. Did I mention we no longer have move through cover? WTF?

Budzerker I don't see why you are so upset. Have you not heard about hive guard.? And it looks like some pretty neat combos can be set up with trygons and mawlocs (DS with mawloc, get the hits and then DS your trygon onto said unit to tie them up in cc allowing the mawloc to do so again next turn).

Now that lictors are going to be viable it seems they would be a good choice for opening rhinos, s6 on rear armor isn't too shabby.

Not as good as the hive guard...though now they act like homing beacons I think we will be seeing a few used in mycetic pod heavy lists.

I like the idea of Tyranid 'Characters'. I'm assuming that they're either remnants of failed 'Nid attacks or a particular strain of creature that is unique to that particular ship or Hive Fleet.

Also, I always thought a 2+ save for a carnie was a bit OTT.

I've never really cared enough about tyranids to want to play them. A couple of my friends play them and I have had many good battles against them.

After reading the OP's post I must say I think this would be a fun army to play. There just seems to be so many nice little things this army can do. I haven't enough time or information to really know what this army can do but I'm really intrigued. I'm afraid my demons might end up getting shelved for awhile as I start going into full on "Aliens" mode.

Great post BTW!

All I have to say is thank god it sounds balanced. I think the nids will now have more builds, tactics, and modeling opportunities then ever before. That being said it sounds a lot like the IG dex with the fact that there are a bunch of new shiny toys and not enough points to use them all. It will be interesting to see how they fare in the tournament circuit.

I just think it's cool that they made models people like actually useful with this dex, I have heard so many people talking about how they love the biovore model but can't bring themselves to include such a useless unit in their armies. I have always loved lictors but before this dex why the hell would you even bother? So kudos to gw for actually doing a little listening for once
