No really thats a lot of spraying. and many models!!

@ Moonshine...and Sageheart! Thanks guys! Need some encouragement, as you will see below!!

@ Weety - too much of both I fear.

UPDATE:

So it was absolutely tipping it down when I left work yesterday so I left my camera at work so that it wouldn't get damaged as I left my umbrella at home - meaning for the second day running I got drenched.

Now. Where to start. Ok:

UNDERCOATING:

I've got through three cans of spray in two days. Not including the wrong can I bought the other day, and the half can I finished the day before that, that is a lot of spary. I am guestimating that I have sprayed close to 250 - 300 models, bits and bobs (I now have another problem I will get into) tanks, bikes and just generally everything I could find that I was remotely ready to paint. I got really light headed, my bathroom (just a rubbish extractor fan for ventialtion) was covered in a film, and where my rushed paper protection was not good enough I had spots of spray on the tiles. I finsihed spraying at about 9pm last night and had a beer. Then I sprayed glass cleaner on the areas I had accidently sprayed and it came of really easily. I was pleased by that as I don't think my body could have taken any more fumes from the paint stripper. So that was a relief.

I felt a big like Alexander this morning:

'When Manoknok saw the breadth of his undercoating, he wept, for their were no more models to spray.'

That isn't entirely true as I have about 80 models here that still need to touched up, altered before undercoating, and then at least 100 in the UK. But I am over the hump.

PAINTING:

Of course now that I have done so much undercoating (and the preceeding paint stripping) it has left me with the task of painting them. I have decided after a fluctuation for speed over the last couple of weeks to do all these models to the very best of my ability. THIS IS GOING TO TAKE ME AGES.

What I am currently working on is:

Fighting Manoks (see other blog)\
Chaplain
Sentinel
LandRaider
Ratling
Ogryn

Five models should be enough to keep me interested. It is also about 1 percent of what I have. I really liked the came scheme I have on the ogryn-it came out really well in the end (I'll post a pic tomorrow). But I think Weety is right - I need more colours: Can anyone suggest a handful of colours to search for? I have to admit I really like that kinda icey blue people use for power weapons....

MODELS:

So to answer the question: I have 9 techmarines. I have to organise my models better as I could not find that Adeptus Mechanicus Squat last night - and it took me 30 mins to locate him. I don't think I have lost anything yet, but I better sort myself out soon as it is only a matter of time.

I have 5 Chaplains. 2 of them were missing their clubs (mine is a athiest army) so I scratchbuilt some ones with bits of Flagelant pack. For the 9 techamarines I have knocked together some back packs out of SM Backpacks, Screwdriver bits, and Cotton buds. Its not going to win any Golden Deamons, but it looks OK.

So that is about it. I will try and get some decent photos up. Finish the ogryn tonight. And perhaps make a good dent on the tank. I am really pleased how that is coming along. However, I see why people use spray guns.

So...till tomorrow.

Cheery Bye

Ps. The other problem is this:

I have so many bits of tanks, bikes, models, arms, weapons, etc that I am a bit worried I may not be able to remember where everything goes....

well what I do with my bits is just chuck em ina box for conversions. You might find out where they go eventually - And at the end when you are fed up with the bits put the bits box on ebay as people will pay up to 15 -20 quid for a large bits box. I did manage to get a reasonably cheap bits bag for 4 squids bit it was very small (the important thing was that it had what I needed in it).

I reckon you need a brighter woodland green (specially when you do your halflings) and a sky blue (ultramarines blue is good - and if you can find some white you can make that power sword color with it) And if possible an all purpose wash like devlain mud or armour wash or army painter medium/light shader

Hey Sigmarites,

So. I dropped two models last night which was a bit annoying. One was this terminator I did a little GS stuff on. The GS and arm (one of my few) promptly fell off. Same with the Ogryn. A little GS, a drop and the arm falls off...

Anyway:

From a distance these look pretty clean. I should probably start painting with glasses on.

Hmm. So. I am thinking I might plough through them. Then revisit them all for touch ups.

Whatcha think...

chuckles! I love that halfling, he looks real mean and sneaky and the little bits of camo really work on him - I shouldn't be too worried about what the macro camera reveals, we've all done that and said omg it looked fine before I zoomed in. I think if you take some slightly wider group shots it will give a better idea of what they look like to the naked eye. From what I've seen you have a pretty steady hand!

the improvised techmarine arms are entertaining! the chainsaw one being my personal favourite!. They remind me of something... I think its the first episode of futurama when fry steps into the suicide booth and all sorts of weapons on little mechanical arms pop out and try and stab him

I was suffering a bit of painting exhaustion this weekend, only managed to paint 2 minis. Well and start a terminator. Wait did I paint 3? I'm losing it...I'm losing it...one model is blending into another.....

Saturday night - skint and nothing planned - I sat myself down with and sorted all the models out into draws (slightly over A4 sized). I have a draw for squats and ratlings, a draw for scouts and termies, 2 draws for marines and 2 for guard, and 1 for characters. I have a draw of bits and some vehicle bits.

Back home I have 2 boxes of warhammer (my mum checked for me).

Commander Cain: Haha Race you! (And thanks for posting!)

Aim for tonight...finish the terminator, and count what I have of each model type so I can work out what I actually have.

Or i could just be purist green with envy! . i just literally scrolled through or should i say waded through your thread of millions of minis. you sir, are legion...
and a bit mad i might add...i have abaout 10% of your minis and consider me pretty mad for that already...
how to keep track, how to keep motivated. where do you want to go with taht much? well i like to think your doing it just for art? did i guess right? thats got to be respected. i like your work/art, sometimes you seem to paint so thin your minis barely look like they´ve been primed. so this was meant to be a compliment^^...

as i write this the thread will be instintly subscribed, that could have happend faster for my liking^^ but as of now i will keep a close eye to your work.

bset wishes and keep on being as motivated as before. we are your fans^^

Hi. So today was a national holiday in the big PH. I spent the day sleeping (with naps) cooking and painting. Most of what I did was for the Fighting Manoks...but I did do a bit for the sigmarites.

I am getting burnt out on these guys, so I think I am going to vary things up a bit. Break them down in to squads, and have each squad fairly unique. This should then save my grey for vehicles.

What I did last night at about 1am (so numbers are vaguely accurate) is count everything I have here. I have a few bits more back home, but this is probably 80 %. I missing my rough riders and a couple of other bits I recall (terminator arms!! where the hell are they)...but essentially this is it, for 40k anyway...

Er.

I tell a lie. Ok. I am holding something back.

I ordered 60 guys yesterday.

Why? Because? They are cheap (non GW) and I think they will be fun to play and convert with. These guys won't be sigmarites so I am thinking of remiving some of my models from sigma and giving them to the my new army. Who are yet to be named, but will be traditional.

Anyway:

Here goes:

In my hands in Manila are:

75 Imperial Guards Men
5 Commissars
5 Sentinels
10 Sigmarite Redemptionists
12 Diggas
27 Scouts
40 Terminators (and 6 sets of arms! Doh!!!!)
5 Chaplains
1 Assassin
9 Techmarines
111 Marines (inc Heavy and Special wps)
25 LOTD
6 Beastmen (I have another 14 back home I am sure)
6 Bikes
3 Jet Bikes
3 Robots
11 Ratlings
12 Ogryns (8 proper 4 conversions)
4 Land speeders
3 Dreadnoughts
14 Squats
6 Rhinos
1 Demolisher
2 Predators
1 Whirlwind
1 Land Raider

Sigh. That is a hell of a lot to paint. Not that I am complaining.

But I need to vary my colours and think about points and breaking these guys up into armies.

Here is what is on my 'work bench currently'

I think I might invest in a spray gun thingy.

@ Viktor Von Domm Thanks for the support! Currently my motivation and well every reason is to get it finished and be proud to put them on the table...with a story behind them. I guess the real reason why I am doing it is because of the models...I love the models...not so keen on playing..I prefer RPG, but I do love the models and inventing little skirmishes and stories for them...

So.

I have to admit, I haven't done anything since my last update (ok I painted the head of the assassin - about 0.001% of what I have to do and painted some warhammer (about 1% of what I need to do there).

I have been suffering some serious painting exhaustion. Actually, have been suffering generally. Got knocked for 6 by a bought of flu, and there is a lot of stuff going on at work, and at home (might be moving flat). All this has lead to a lack of energy and a rethink.

Its unrealistic for me to create my Sigmar army. So what do I do?

Well. I am inclined to preserver with it, but equally I am inclined to sell everything and build a cheap converted imperial guard army. I am inclined to preserver with it all AND build another army as well.

The latter will leave me close to 600 models to paint all of which I would want to do to the best of my ability.

The idea that I am thinking of at the moment is selling everything bar a few bits (some Ogryns, and 1/2 my beastmen). I've been looking on ebay and I could make quite a lot selling this off in parts, or in one go. For instance I have 27 Jetbikes and rough riders and commisar. I have a 6 metal landspeeders. And 3 plastic ones (all black templar painted from the 3rd ed box set). I reckon I could get at least a grand for everything though shipping etc will be a strike to the nads.

Alternatively, I could just not sell them and not get the money and try and paint them. Alternatively I could split my army in half and sell the OOP Imperial guard including the Jet bikes.

I really don't know.

If I chose to keep them and paint them I need to increase my rate of paint ten fold, and increase my pallet...

Anyway...

I'm inclined to sell of the Imperial Guard side (by far the bigger side) and continue with just space marines then do a normal Imperial Guard army...following a scheme and with mass paiting.

Oh. I'd keep the ratlings too.

So how much do you think I'd get for

1 squad Beastmen (proper 40k ones)
8 metal sentinels
20 metal cadians
20 metal catachans
5 commissars
50-60 rogue trader imperial guardsmen
27 jet bikes + rough riders?

is it worth it, or is it better to hold on to it?

I am going to try and do a poll...

Manok.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

tough choice , i have been buying oop imperial guard receantly , and was looking to pick up some jetbikes about 4/5 so if you do decide to sell mate , could you give me a pm!
some of the oop guards men would look cool in the john blanche diorama i am building. though having so many models can be a hamper to the creative process , i would never consider creating such a massive army for fear of boredom . i would just concentrate on squads of men at a time , and although a grande sounds alot you wouldnt get it in one lump sum i doubt , and may never appreciate the sporadic ammounts you do get!
i would say concentrate on one army and sell off what you dont need , but dont sell all of it!

Hmm, tough choice. I often find myself thinking that I have too much stuff. I tend to paint whatever I grab out of the box and keep at it until it is finished.

On the other hand, there are a lot of people who would love to have some of the oop models. It really depends on whether you are willing to part with the models because once they are gone they aint comin back

IMHO, I would sell the models and get some fresh new stuff.

So I just went through all ten pages of your blog here. Just one suggestion/question. Have you tried the new washes yet? Badad Black, Gryphonne Sepia or Devlon Mud, and Ogryn Flesh would be all you would need over all from the colors I have seen you use if your on a budget. It really makes a huge difference and easily adds the shading that really good painters do by the blending effect. I know how to do the shading the old way but it is really time consuming and the new washes and foundations feel like cheating at times with how easy they are to use.

I have actually painted whole models by using 95 percent washes. The other 5 percent was then picking out the fine details with proper colors.

Love your fluff and I also miss the days when Warhammer was just a planet that was lost to the rest of the 40k universe due to it being surrounded by severe warp storms. I also too believe that Sigmar is a lost primarch.

Manaknok I feel your pain! I have recently shelved my Skaven army due to burn out and started an easy to paint and model space marine army in an attempt to regain my 40k mojo.

My suggestion would be to sell off the models you don't need but leave enough for you Sigmarite army so that you can go back to it later, and for an easy army I would be wary of IG even a mech army need a fair few infantry models and lots of tanks, they are worth it for the leman russ alone though..gotta love pie plates
