Necros wrote:Was a tad underwhelmed when i first saw him, but he's growing on me a little. I like the photoshopped one much better than the original. Have they said what other armies they plan to launch with? or will it just be dwarves at first and then adding others later on? I liked the sketches I saw for their human army
First two armies will be Forgefathers (Dwarfs) and Marauders (Orks) - below is the full list of races for Warpath with a brief description but after the first two I have no idea about the order. I would assume Corporation is number 3 simply because of how integral they are to the background (a la IoM in 40k)
Corporation (humans) - Turn up at an alien world and want to trade, but soon have bribed the local officials, smeared or assassinated their opponents and take over completely. Resistance is met with military force. Model wise they are going for a cross between real-world modern troops and IG (with a rumour of uber-elite power armoured shock troops to come). Think of a sinister galactic version of the East India Company, Weyland-Yutani corporation and The Alliance from Firefly.
Rebs (humans with Alien Auxiliaries) - Believe everyone should be able to do there own thing, have been joined by lesser alien races that have become refugees or genocide survivors from Corporation purges. Think of the Browncoats from Firefly, Terran rebels from Starcraft, etc.
The Plague (mutant humans) - A Corporation biological warfare experiment gone wrong, some people died, some were turned into mindless violent zombies, some mutated horribly. Those that retain intelligence become leaders and scavenge weapons and supplies. Think of Resident Evil, Firefly Reavers, 28 Days Later, etc with some GW Chaos mutation chucked in the mix.
Marauders (orx) - A savage and primitive race earmarked for extermination were saved by a Corporation general who had an idea to use them as shock troops. They were taken away for indoctrination and training but eventually rebelled and now work as pirates and mercenaries. More like the old Rogue Trader-era GW orks than the current version.
Forgefathers (dwarfs) - An old and highly advanced race that the Corporation have been unable to subdue. They are elite forces with good armour and a lot of heat based (flamer/melta) weapons and large caliber, high ROF guns. They are miners and smiths whose society is built on an elite core of prospectors who find candidate planets, the bulk of the population who then take out the valuable material and an underclass of more primitive scavengers who work as rag-and-bone men, scrap-metal merchants, etc but who are tough and violent (berserkers in space )
Asterians (elves) - Responsible for a lot of mysterious disappearances of ships and colonies and are often sighted near black holes. <no more information as yet...>
The Zz'or (bugs) - Presumably a Tyranid/Aliens/Starship Troopers Bugs clone, there is a BoW backstage video if anyone has seen it?
The Eighth Race (??) - The first rule of Warpath is, you do not talk about the Eighth Race. The second rule of Warpath is, you do not talk about the Eighth Race. I have no idea, assuming its something of their own design that they are keeping tightly under wraps for now.

I thought no one was supposed to talk about the 8th race?
Guess I'll wait and see what the guard wannabe's come out like.. or maybe the rebels. I'd like to find some good models to use as conscripts. I have this crazy idea where I wanna make a totally full platoon with all the squads.. so that means 50 conscripts, but I don't wanna use any of the regular guard models for them, been looking for something different, more like civilians that got a lasgun thrown at them and told to run out and kill stuff.

The "not-necrons" rumour is entirely an internet fabrication from wishlisters filling in the blanks from GW's range of armies.
Mantic has said nothing about the 8th race, at all, anywhere. There are no rumours, only wishlists.

Lets hope so scarletsquig...
It nice to see this list, we have so many races that are not "GWish", but have use on GW games as tottally diferent things: rebs, plague, forgefathers... 3 Races wich are concepts that GW dont use anymore, or never touched at all.
And there is no Space Marines clone!!!
As we can clearly see, Mantic will try to sell those for 40k gamers, for count-as, but their game will not be a 40k clone at all...

Twilight Kin have an Army list. You can find it here: http://manticgames.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e62f0c35454fa3ba687404d69&id=7a2dadb13e&e=f701682e2a
I dont have looked at the list deeply, but the tips on "rule changes" are all great. Remember that somethings here will probably be added to existing list too.
The "new" nerve rule is great, the same thing but discomplicated. Its now very easy to know how much wounds a unit can take before it go in trouble...
Hidden is a nice rule, but a see it beying changed in future, right now it is a deep strike who dont scatter.
Apparently, lots of "regular options" of Heroes got an option for mounts, that sounds great, and maybe it happens with other armies too. I mean, the typical General, Army Champion and Standard Bearer all can have mounts on twilight kin, maybe the other armys got the same for their ones.
About the "miniatures", nothing is out but the fluff and unit names pretty suggest great new minitures, specially winged things, and "things from the darkness". I liked it...

It's $29USD for 10 Ork Boyz, which is only $4 more than the 10 Orx. But it would cost $58USD for 20 Boyz vs $35USD for 20 Orx. Also the Orx vs Dwarves is $25 cheaper than Assault on Black Reach. Looks like Mantic will only push the savings when buying in bulk. Another issue for us 'merkins could be the weak USD, I don't really know how the Mantic price changes relate in GBP. And TBH, I'm more interested in the armor pricing, since that's where GW really screws you.

Agreed,
The prices formerly listed (especially the larger quantities) are lower than GW. However not that much lower. Compare the base set of 10 forgefathers at 25 to 10 GW guardsmen at 30, and the difference isn't much. Further, even if Mantic institutes more posabillity than they have in the KOW line, you're still looking at a GW kit that probably has alot more pieces for not much more $.
A price difference as small as that is going to lead alot of folks to choose pay a bit more for a GW army that comes with a built-in player base rather than the Mantic alternative.
As a final note, compare also to Wargames factory which offers 18 multipose troopers for 20 bucks!

Except that mantic is selling SPACE DWARVES!! and old school RT era looking orx.
Did I mention dwarves in space? The game is interesting to play so far as we have done. But I think quite a few people will buy the Forgefathers just to have them. Depending on how the Orx look they are something that could be bought and used in old school like RT era games too.
But really, even if you have more options, when you don't make something that competes there are more reasons to buy. The dwarves fit this realm. Not so sure about the rest, but I keep hearing "counts as" 40k armies. So I think in that situation being a little cheaper will help as people find alternative model options that GW doesn't have.

I totally see your point and as for myself, I would much rather buy forgefathers than another GW army. I'm in for Forgefathers with the only thing to be decided is whether to buy a warband or an army.
Still, I think that most folks looking for a new game or considering a second army will require a bigger price break than the one listed above to start in with a game that hasn't got a fraction of the gaming community that 40k does. If I were a new gamer, the price difference wouldn't be enough to entice me.
Of course this may all be moot if the prices end up being less or the quantities end up being more.

If the prices are that close to GW's I'll probably just pick up the base box or maybe just a space-Dwarf-plastic-army box if they do the same thing they did with KoW, use them as "counts as" for a small 500-pt force of IG once they're supplemented with vehicles and heavies from elsewhere and that'll be it.
I've got ani-GW pathological need to jump on board with the next Warzone with both feet. I'm still in the (slow) process of turning my piles of old Warzone models into IG.
