You have to pay the taxes and customs in the country that you are importing into, in my case Portugal, for example.
I highly doubt that CMoN would go check every single purchasers country, check their respective VAT / custom tariffs and then go out and pay them...
The extra 25$ is for mailing expenses only.

I emailed CMON on kick starter to see if they can do something about the postage to the UK.
I got a reply;
CoolMiniOrNot wrote:We're looking into it, but can't commit to that right now. If we do ship from the UK, the cost will still be around $25 per box due to the additional VAT and customs shipment charges into the UK, but at least you won't have to deal with HMS Customs on your end.
Avoiding Customs and Royal mail hold ups would be nice.
I hope they can divert enough boxes to the UK to avoid the 'additional shipment charges' that would be great.
the US kick starter price pays for internal postage, so once the boxes are in the UK our internal postage should be paid too?
we as UK customers should only have to deal with Vat.
Im reading that as it will arive Vat and import duty paid allready? so maybe just the handleing charge?

well they would only have to check each country once so i can see it being that much of a problem tbh.

@CURNOW
Please fix your quotes, they make it quite hard to see what you are saying.
What CMoN are talking about in that quote is that IF they did manage to send some crates to the UK instead of the US then probably the costs would still be 25$ but people wouldn't have to deal with customs (including people in other EU countries).
But as it stands NOW, the 25$ shipping cost only covers the actual shipping from the US to wherever and the buyers would have to pay VAT / custom tariffs on top of that if the package was flagged by customs in their country...

Yeah if we dont get a drop off in Europe, we are going to get raped by customs.
$25 is fine for shipping, but a small parcel from the states cost me $30 in customs last year.
Alternatively, it costs me nothing when the missus gets her mom to send us stuff, so maybe get the blokes packing them up to write "gift" on the postage form!
I mean, we aren't "buying" it per se are we? Its more like a donation to support a hobby start up.. so maybe we can get a legal work around and he can ship them as presents that we just happened to donate $125 for.

These sculpts are nothing short of perfect. I hope they come as crisp as they look in the pictures.
Why are the games not shipped to the UK, then sent out at UK prices from in country?
All you have to do is tally up the number of supporters per country, then send them the amount of games. VA third party.
I could see a startup gameing community as in various preplayed games supporters.
Get a centeral supporter, give them some love as in an extra boss, or something, then get the players of the game together and keep each other informed, play, whathave you.
That central supporter can be a supporting game store, affiliate, or whathave you.
Point being as was pointed- Your doing a kickstarter, for a game. Why not use it as a secondary to startup gameing clubs, supporters.... As we did back in the day.
worked smash with D and D. GW didn't do hard either.
THIS game, is begging for a strong support community.

It's not a matter of them checking what applies in each country. There is simply no way for the sender to sort out whatever fees will apply, as Customs will contact the receiver, not the sender, if anything needs to be paid.

I got a reply from CMoN basically saying that they are actively investigating the European postage situation, but that if it doesn't get resolved each parcel's value will be listed as the actual production cost, not the bid value in order to reduce the vat we will need to pay, which is a good compromise and shows they are trying to think of ways to sort the situation for us.

It's not the insurance that would be worrying me, it's the government accusing you of committing customs fraud. Saying you gave CMoN a "gift" of $100 and they sent you a "gift" of a game in return isn't going to fly.

We'll see. I was thinking that Zombicide might have a broader audience (of both hard core and casual gamers) while this is a little more hard strategy. But Zombicide wasn't this high early on.

Yeah it wont touch zombiecides cash in my opinion, not that I am interested in ZC or anything, I've personally only ever been a bit interested in the whole zombie thing, you know, Ill watch a movie if its on TV or something but that's about it. Millions of people are into the whole zombie thing though, have you seen how many people go on those weird ass zombie walk things!? I think there is less broad appeal in a proper sci-fi board game.
That said, while I doubt it has as much appeal, but I can definitely see a gak load more people getting involved, especially if they get an EU drop off sorted.

Well, people are kinda thinking of it like this:
Imagine if a games design studio were based in the town next to you (in Australia) and they got into bed with a company in the US and did a kickstarter, but, in order for you to get the game, you had to pay shipping and import taxes from the US.....
I think people in the UK would be (OK) with the whole shipping thing if it was purely a US product, but people (in the UK) seem to be having a hard time justifying the UK involvement of Studio McVey to themselves. It's (ironically) probably not helping that Studio McVey (at least on Dakka) seems to be the most supportive of the project, I think if someone from Coolminiornot were out on the forums answering questions and drumming up support, people might start to associate the project more with the US contingent rather than the UK side.
Simple as that really.

I'd pay the cost of the shipping because it's coming from overseas. Doesn't matter if it was written in the same country as me. It's not being manufactured or distributed in the same country, therefore I'd pay shipping. Using your example, let's pick something even closer to home for me - I wrote part of this and I'll still have to pay shipping on any copy I order. I'm really not seeing what the big deal is here.

Hi Guys
Just a quick update - sorry I haven't posted more in the last few days. It's been a whirlwind this week - can't seem to find the time to do half the things I need to
Still no *official* announcement on the UK shipping issue - but I'm confident it will happen. I promise I will post here as soon as it's gets settled. It all just comes down to quantity - we have to commit to shipping at least half a container from the manufacturer. Then we have to figure out the logistics (import duties, where the hell I am going to keep that much product - the game is in a big-ass box!, etc, etc).
Then we have to finish the actual game - but that's really close. I'm doing a final proof read of the laid-out book and cards (looking great!), organising some alterations to the board art (late decision), re-organising the plastic tools to fit the new variant, approving renders and proofs for the new plastic counters and tokens - and million other things...
Exciting times though!

Can't speak for Ogre, but at the minute Sedition Wars is going far faster than Zombicide.
According to the information I've seen, it too 18 days for Zombicide to hit the $100k mark - Sedition Wars blasted through that in under a week.
