I really like that speeder (despite being very meh on the design). I need to steal that extreme highlight tech for... something!

Because damn, it looks like it is out of a car magazine.

@sing your life: Yeah, somehow i got a kick out of painting it that way. Let's be honest, it looks a lot like a vintage sports car.

@Gitsplitta: Oh, those would look gorgeous in purple! Well, you know how to contact me about things like that.

@Camkierhi: Thanks very much. I kept the weathering and battle damage to a minimum on this one to keep the contrast up.

@Wehrkind: Yeah, it looks really,. really sexy. The kind of sexy you usually don't get from 40k models with their angular, chunky look. Well, except on eldar and Tau of course. And Dark Eldar. I'd love to do an army of those some time.

@Solar_lion: Damn straight!

@Dysartes: Yeah, I usually don't do these on jet engines, at least not on this army because the jet outlet things are always a very, very deep hole on which OSL style glowy stuff quickly looks odd without a lot of additional work I'm afraid.

Frak me I just love that speeder. The design looks soooo good painted this way and I previously thought it was rubbish. Such freaking great highlighting. I want one. Alot.

Commission and wargaming stuff aside I agreed to paint a set of figures from CMON's recently released board game Blood Rage.

It's basically an area control game with deckbuilding/draft elements to it. Rather clever. It reminded me of a mix of 7 Wonders (which I like a LOT) and Small World. The theme is vikings beating each other on the head. It's Ragnarok, the end of the world, and each of the four viking clans needs to acquire more glory than the other clans before the world ends, so their guys get to Valhalla.

My brother bought it around christmas and decided that the minis would look nicer painted. This is where I come in. :p

I'm painting those in weekends, because during the week I gotta do commission stuff and such of course. The above I did this weekend. Hope to be done in three weeks time or so. I really can't put too much time into those because we want to actually play the game again some time soon and frankly i'm very short on time. So these won't be showcase material (while of course I'll still try to make them look pretty).

The figures pictured are (almost) all of the player figures. There are four "clans" (from left to right): Snake clan (yellow), Wolf clan (red), Bear clan (brown), Raven clan (blue), each one has 8 warriors figures (2 different poses) and one leader each (with the banner).

Once these are done I'll do the heroes and monsters players can hire in addition to their warriors and leaders. These are 4 to 5 human sized ones and four huge monsters.

So yeah, that's it. Hope you like them so far. The minis pictured are WIP. Comments and critizism are welcome as always!

Right, that's that. Red rings around the base indicate Elites. Tomorrow I'll meet with the client, he gets his minis and gives me a bunch of new ones to paint.

The Star Wars minis look great Sigur, theres just something about those Stormtroopers that I love they look so real.

The Blood Rage minis are looking very interesting as well, they could be used for lots of games.

@sing your life: Sent you a PM.

@GiraffeX: Yeah, they do look rather amazing. Kinda boring to paint, but I figured out a recipe by now giving (as I believe) an okay mid-way between stark black/white contrasts and some slightly dirty look. As for the Blood Rage figures - oh yes indeed. I've got the Advanced Songs of Blades and Heroes rulebook coming up next month, maybe I'll use them for playtesting. Also got myself Dragon Rampant for which they work perfectly fine as well.

...aaaaaaand we're back to Star Wars with the Return to Hoth set and some more additions.

It's a bit of a short-term thing. I got those models yesterday, along with the info that the client's campaign will continue on Friday by which time it would be nice for him to have as many minis finished and delivered as possible.

No pressure, he doesn't NEED any done, but it would be nice if there was something finished.

A note on the WIP picture: It's remarkable how this looks like it took maybe two hours to do whilst I spent multiples of that amount on these models alone. It's also rather straining hours as all I saw was white for most of the day so far. With a tiny little bit of light grey here and there.

@Gitsplitta: Thanks very much!

@RiTides: Cheers. The Star Wars sculpts are really, really solid actually. The material's a little wonky due to them being boardgame figures and the material used being bendy. So filing or scraping the massive mold lines off is pretty much out of the question and everything's having to be cut. But it's OK and with a good primer and some varnish in the end the paintjobs seem to last rather nicely.

Well, hi.

How's everybody been doing?

And why have I been gone? Well. Maintaining forums painting logs is a bit time intensive and I'm usually pretty busy with keeping up painting stuff. Over the past two years or so my posting kinda shifted over to social media such as Facebook and Twitter. More so by accident rather than design. Those social media are fast, there's some feedback, brilliant. Just like a proper painting log on a proper forum, right? Well, no. Not really. We all have seen many forums users migrating over to Facebook because it seems easier and quicker for having chats about miniatures and war gaming and generally the things we like. However, Facebook also is a kinda of dreadful place. It's just a different medium to a Forum. Very often posts are being made based on knee-jerk reactions, moods and so on. This is not me grieving because I got into some fight on facebook or something like this, it's just a general observation. For actually meaningful exchange with a much greater sense of level-headedness I'll take the painting section of a proper forum over Facebook any day of the week. Last but not least I miss a sense of community. Not that I'm the most active Dakkaite out there, but I appreciate the community a LOT.

So yeah, this is mostly why I'm making an effort to do more forums posting again. I hope to post more on other people's threads again (like Gitsplitta's a RiTides above). Somehow we all seem to have less and less time on our hands to do just that. Even though we got all these machines which technically should save us time. Weird. But I guess I'm just getting old and mushy. And my bad time management shows too.

Anyway, let's see what I can show you to lure you back into this thread... right, 40k tanks!

Then I finally had to get started on this one:

I painted a Reaver before, I painted some Warhounds before. I never actually built a full titan (just did some repairs) and that Reaver is just a stupid amount of work. Cleaning, planning, posing, resisting scratching myself with the powerfist...

Especially as each and every part requires some additional cutting/cleaning of mold lines and such. Of course it didn't help that the only thing I'm in the slightest ambitious about is getting minis to look pretty. The first Reaver I painted once landed on a big German miniature related site. Most of the (numerous) comments concerned themselves with 'zis pose is bowring and stiff' and 'looks like you used ze airbrush on this'. The second thing is of course true. Well, I did the basic colours with it. I have to stop myself now, otherwise I get into a loooong rant about airbrush in broad miniature gaming, its use, the perception of it (both silly extremes of shunning it and hailing it for changing everything. Both is complete rubbish.), its overuse, cheap-o quick painters relying on wow-ing people with basic airbrush jobs and rubbish edge highlighting (that gets less though as people finally get used to some things. My critizism of course is directed at a tiny minority of commission painters, not people who paint their own stuff quickly, because that's good.) and all of that.

The first thing wasn't my fault either as I just painted the chap. Anyway, with this new Reaver I had the chance of posing him a bit differently, so I went with a slightly more animated stance, leading to all kinds of problems. Seems to work now though and I think it will look cool.

Look what I ran into with the Gatling Blaster:

It's the Krummlauf version!

Yeah, each and every one of the barrels was bent. The one in the picture was the worst one, but the others required correction as well.

But enough of my whining. The Reaver is put together now (except for a bunch of armour plates I keep off to painting).

I even started painting something about the model:

I'm currently waiting for the magnets to arrive. Really glad that after the Chaos Reaver I get to do an Imperial one now.

The colour scheme on the titan itself will be based on Legio Crucius again, just like on this Warhound I painted a while ago:

So yeah, that's what's on the table currently.

Welcome back. Great work all round.

Yeah, I prefer the feedback and discussion that happens in a forum compared to FB "likes".

There was one group I joined on FB that actively discouraged any feedback that wasn't "good work". I left that group.

@Dr H: Thanks very much! It's also nice to have a persistent log of your stuff and comments and such rather than Facebook's "put something on and the day after it's gone" (pretty much). From your praise I deduct that my work is perfect and thus requires no further improvement.

There were a bunch of setbacks in that I had to re-pin a few things, clean a whole lot other things and then had to replace some magnets I'd used because they were too weak. BUT things are on their way now!

Usually with titans I start from the inside, doing interior details and such. Those are done now, except for some more required weathering on the silvery metal parts:

During the same the summer a friend asked me to paint a Warmachine warband for him. It was to fit with a collection he'd bought off ebay painted and the paintjob had to match that or at least mix and thus I was ordered not to paint it really well, but only so-so. Which is a thing I don't do usually, but it's for a friend of long, so I went for it.

Just a quick hop in the now-times just so you know what I'm currently working on:

It's another Malifaux warband! Woo!

I was told to come up with a colour scheme of my own, preferrably based on deep blue.

...which is cool, because I do like a nice, deep blue. When it comes to "shiny sci-fi", deep blue (shiny), white and crimson is one of my favourite colour schemes altogether (which is why my Infinity dudes are painted in this fashion), and I went with this in the end. It was only when I painted the scarves I realized what I'd done, and probably why I'd been drawn to choosing and applying the scheme as I did:

instant Greninja.

Oh well. It's still a cool colour scheme I think. :p

Since after a long time a SoB figure was released by GW, and I'm a massive sucker for everything pre-3rd edition 40k I had to get this one and paint it in my own SoB order's colours:

Nice mini. I was massively surprised when I saw that it's cast in Finecast. It's not as bad as some make it out to be, but it is a pretty silly medium.

Of course this spring I attented Austrian Salute again. Here's my show report:

http://www.battlebrushstudios.com/2017/03/show-report-austrian-salute-2017.html

On that weekend I Bought a bit more stuff than I'd planned to, but it only took me a few hours to make up a list of perfectly reasonable excuses for every single item I bought:
skirmishwargaming.com/austrian-salute-loot-report/

Well, and then this happened...

...because I'm a person of very, very limited restraint. These aren't commission work, this is just my inner 12 year old somehow having taken over control. First time I bought a 40k starter box since 2nd edition!

Here are all the Nurgle dudes!

....and the Primaris Space Marines, built for painting:

On these I need your help. I don't own a Space Marines army and I don't have any particular favourites (well, I do prefer some chapters over others), so: What chapter should I paint these chaps as? Every vote* will be considered.

*the following votes will not be considered: Angry Marines, anything related to My little Pony or Girls and Panzers, "boobs". :p

So yeah, if you could help me with this I'd greatly appreciate it.

I don't know where to start on your work but I'll begin by welcoming you back with a manly virtual hug good to have you back on Dakka Siggy, I know what you mean about the differences between FB and a forum I think the FB posts are very limited and don't really engage with much depth since most people scroll for pretty pictures, where on the forum it's more a comfort thing where we have our followed blogs we enjoy seeing what gets updated and we feel a connection by taking the time to reply and keep replying as the person grows and progresses which is also why we miss those people who stop for a while (like yourself) as we consider them our friends and it's always great to see the fresh influx of work when you do come back!

speaking of your work, still some of my favorite to see! it's a beautifully painted tank squad and the rust on the dozer blade is brilliant, it's great seeing a 'simple' base with attention to the details and additions can really make something look sooooo good, seeing them made me have that 'I need an army of just Catachan Tanks' thought that I shouldn't have..... ever.

The Warmachine stuff is great and very very crisp and fitting with the game, always a pleasure to see you let loose!

The Reaver, stop being soft and assemble it and then use a normal brush like I did when I did GIts'

Hmmmm a marine chapter for you to paint those horrid Primaris? .... something different or something fitting for the new guys? two chapters come to mind, firstly the Exorcists, would be great to see you do the red armour with small runes and litanies etched into the armour? or the Scythes of the Emperor, they would be a chapter that would certainly be getting reinforced with Primaris plus the scheme is cool

@nerdfest09: Thanks very much, mate. Another thing I don't like about FB (and that's just showing my age maybe) is those names people use. I do NOT care for using someone's real name on the internet. I guess it's just me being weird, but I much easier remember nicknames and avatars rather than the 10th Frank Miller. Yeah, my curiosity got the better of me on those new biglegmarines. Right, Exorcists or Scythes of the Emperor. Noted. Once I'll get to painting the chaps I'll reveal the FINAL RESULT!

I've bee painting FBF minis for various customers for almost 10 years now. Generally extremely pretty figures.
