I play IG talarans and I have a couple questions.
I want to use a tactic I call operation coscript shield. do my infantry units block LOS to a unit behind them of cavalry?
Could a unit of cavalry ride through a platoon of guard?

No, but they do give a 4+ cover save.
No, models can't move through each other.
Both of these questions should be asked at You Make Da Call, and can be found in the rulebook under the appropriate headings.

More precisely, infantry units don't inherently block LOS. But if the LOS is physically blocked by the models, then the LOS is blocked.

Infantry cannot block line of sight, but vehicles can and they can be moved where needed making a superb barrier that can dish out some serious hurt

Like Insaniak said, they can potentially block LoS. If he were to layer his conscripts about 5 models deep and 10 across, he could possible form a literal wall of plastic. In practice this is difficult and ineffective, but it is a possibility.

Infantry can indeed block line of sight, it's just difficult and rare for them to do so.

Generally Infantry cannot block line of sight, they are moving from cover to cover or dying. The rule introduced the cover save to represent this aspect, as a Guards play I too miss this old rule but we must adapt not try to twist it.

Harms66, you're not trying to be difficult, are you?
This edition, for better or for worse, uses TLOS.
So, if LOS is blocked, it is blocked.

yea ... its not trying to "twist" anything .... if you go down eyelevel to it and it wouldnt be able to see then its los has been blocked.

As far as i know... A unit cannot pass through another.
And infantry can block LOS but the opponent will generally be able to see the unit behind, therefore being able to shoot at said unit, but if the infantry in front block LOS partially then the unit behind will be granted a cover save. Basically if you can see it you can shoot it, if there is something in the way (an enemy unit, a low wall, a friendly unit, etc) then a cover save may be taken (in most cases)

A unit can indeed move through another unit, as long as the models will fit. This can lead to the problem of checkerboarding, where two+ units are so intertwined that they would give each other cover saves by RAW.
And since current 40k uses true LOS then of course units can block LOS, its just not always very easy to completely block LOS entirely.

Why does my eldar army run three fire prisms? Because the rules wont let me use four in (regular 40k). |
