Being a monstrous creature doesn't automatically grant you immunity to instant death, but there may be another rule or piece of wargear that could grant that effect (Eternal Warrior) to the specific model in question.

Id say look up the instant death rules. Itll tell you in how instant death works. If the MC falls under any one of those guidelines, then nope its not immune.

In the current Codex. But apparently that ability of the Hive Mind is removed from the upcoming new Codex.

At the moment, one of the few things that can eliminate a Tyranid MC ( in Synapse ) with a single unsaved wound is a Demon Hunter Force Weapon.

EDIT: Changed the statement to reflect additional info provided by Gorechild.

Monstrous Creatures are not immune to Instant Death, although most, if not all of them have circumstances which make them very hard to Instant Kill (very high Toughness etc)

being a MC grants the creature the Move through cover USR
and gives them 2D6 penetration Vs Vehicles only.

to be immune to instant death the MC needs either the Eternal Warrior USR (like chaos deamon prince's) or another rule that grants immunity to instant death (like tyranid synapse's but there are plenty of others)

toughness values of 6+ provide immunity from ID in many cases, as it isn't possible for the opponents weapon strength to be double your toughness. But this dosn't give immunity to instant death from things such as Sicarius's "coup de grace" attack or a slaanesh bliss giver deamon weapon that inflict ID regardless of toughness

Well I was asking cause I had a Skulltaker Roll a 4+ for his insta kill on a Carnifex, which was then argued that they were immune to instant death.

The Carnifex, if in Synapse range, IS Immune to ID - but only because of Synapse, it is *not* an inherent feature of being a Monstrous Creature.

Also, Tyrant Guard weren't MCs last I knew.

MCs are not immune to instant death however all Tyranid creatures with in synapse range are immune to ID as the rules stand (though I believe this will be lost in the new codex and be replaced with a layer of cheese).
